    monzo Almost Arabic feel to your song & would be a major contender if Homeland ever need a new theme tune. Perfect for it. That juddery sound in at 0.37 is like the offspring from a mutant mosquito & a radiation infected Blue Bottle fly....Wonderful.

    Your comforting, softened bass drum at 1.07 is the heartbeat that pumps it's fabulous sounds into & around your song is addictive & alive. The flute adds a beautifully lighter contrast & really fits in. No cliche's & ALL your tunes (not just this one) are always full of depth, feeling & tons of interest.

    Good review.

    The Sheep Bleatings. Almost a band name, maybe a better album title, but perhaps best served as a short horror story...

  • I've updated the second post and the SoundCloud.

  • I'm sat here trying to start on only song number 2 for SOTMC's November edition & I would just like to PRAISE all of you fellow club participants, no sorry, correction.......songwriters.

    I'm not sure how long the club has been in existence but for all of you that have been involved during any part of it................mucho KUDOS!

    I'm new to this so how you've all thought of, composed, played, sung, edited, mixed, mastered etc, with all the normal work & family commitments going on month after month, is brilliant.

    I know the answer is love of music but you should still, all of you, take a bow.

    Right........back to my 3 chord mashup! Oh. Ok then. Washing up first!!!

    That consistency is the most important thing, and the very essence of the club.

    Don't break the chain:

  • I often use that Jerry example. It's the idea of him with fifty cars in his garage and no 'need' to do what he does, but still he goes in andworks. And that it's not always easy, by any means, but that's how things get done.

  • @richardyot said:

    Thanks for the link to that article. An inspiring read/idea that I shall try to, no, will adopt.
    Don't break the chain. Now, today, immediately. Right, where's the big red marker pen.
    Thanks again.

    @JohnnyGoodyear That's a really good illustration & reminder. Thanks.

  • @monzo Nice track man! I loved the percussion in the background. Good atmosphere, noise, etc. I love this. Weird, original, and dare I say accessible.

  • TWO MORE DAYS OF OCTOBERING!

    Where is the Soundcloud? I think it's buried somewhere in these 12 pages of comments, maybe you could link it in the second post? Thanks!

  • Good idea to update the second post, I'll do it now.

    Thank you :) Percussion was an iM1 drum kit, triggered by Fugue Machine. I had planned to overdub some more rhythms, but seems ok with that one. Might have been less accessible if I'd put my gnarly vocals on it, so thank heavens for small Auria crashes.

    I'll try and get around to commenting on the tracks I've missed in the next few days.

    A (very) short Halloween love song for all SOTMC romantics...have fun today and if you survive in mostly one piece, it'll be time to get to work on November....

  • Appologies for slackness on my part. So busy ATM.

    I'll be checking into this monster thread and listening to the tracks early next week.

    Sweet. My song to hum today.
    Been fighting to get something for October but only bits of shit. May post anyway.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear nice tune, well carried by the voice in front of the very minimal instrumentation. Found the visual disturbing, especially against the words being sung - not sure if that was the intent. Musically very good though, I think it's one of those that I prefer without the visual.

  • Meg Ryan liked it.

    Indeed! Here is last ditch JGY inspired entry

  • @rkmonkey your song is fabulous & defo not "only bits of shit," that you said in your post. The bass riff is double "g." Groovy & Gorgeous. Is that a real bass? If it's ifretless bass I need to ask you.....how? Whatever, it's stunning playing. The piano is also perfect & compliments the psycho blues feel you've created.

    Terrific sounding drums when they kick in & they pack a punch which I love. Deep, thumping bass drum & snappy snare. It's all very catchy indeed. I could see myself listening & grooving to this in a smoke filled, back street Dublin boozer with a gut full of Guinness inside me. I'll have what she's having...................and you sir!

  • @JohnnyGoodyear,

    I'm afraid the visuals put me off listening to the song.

    No worries. It's just a little bonbon for my own Halloween entertainment...

    Thanks for the note. Was intended to be creepy (in the old-fashioned sense...).

    Mostly Halloween tricks and the magic and crafty use of some old midi files and iOS music. Glad you enjoyed it and wish I could play like those damn midi files. And a shout out to Meg, of course.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear Your distinctive, very good voice over those understated sounds work well together. The video was creepy & disturbing & I liked it. Definitely apt for tonight. This gives me an idea....................I'm going to ram the iPad to my front window, play your song & then watch the trick or treaters scarper in fear! The door hasn't stopped!

  • Last minute switch of tune since I fancied playing around with a term I learned this month (trance-gate). Probably doing it all wrong, at least I can hope..

    Tardy as usual. Will give feedback for this months colossal list soon. All comments on mine appreciated.

  • @Jocophone great title. Fits well. Very interesting. I liked the track and especially the transition @ 1 min. Very cool sounds throughout. Sets me a bit ill at ease, befitting the title.

    Thanks rkmonkey. I didn't find a method to ease in the first section after the quiet intro, so that ended up a bit abrupt but I quite enjoyed the trance-gate type noises and it gave me a few ideas for future noises.

  • Have given comments on some already, haven't repeated them here. hope I don't leave anyone out.

    @LostBoy85 - In The Moment:

    I usually have to try and ignore my own (questionable) tastes when I listen to your songs LostBoy. In some ways that makes it more of useful learning experience, listening to material that sounds completely alien to me. Part American teen pop, part soft rock, both of these descriptions I would take as insults if someone directed them at my output but to your credit you manage to make this kind of song work for you. Great singing and a beautiful melody in this one but I still find it a bit painful that the backing track doesn't do your voice justice. You should stage a remix thread to see what other musicians might do with one of your vocal tracks.

    @touchconspiracy - subterrainian-2011-unmastered

    Not seen you around the forum much lately touch. The place seems to lack a bit of energy as a result. Enjoyed your track, some great sound design in there. I won't go on about the obvious sections as I have mentioned it a few times before. Especially liked the third part where it mixes up the dynamics and near the end with that sustained sub bass note.

    @Bluepunk - Only One Man:

    Ha ha Bluepunk, you managed to get the feelings out in this one. Brought to mind Kevin Bloody Wilson, maybe a tad more polite. The backing track has great drums and delivers a powerful initial punch but does stay a little on the one level. Must say your timing was perfect for this style of song.

    @BvsMV - Until The Next

    Although the sounds suggested a relaxed atmosphere this track is quite insistent and driving. Good though, enjoy all your rhythmic play and effortless sounding narrative, flows really well.

    @Matt_Fletcher_2000 - Ocular

    Very, very subtle story through this track. I rarely need to draw attention to your skill in putting together these tracks as it can almost be taken as read. Really liked the call and response in the middle section between those slightly warped flute like noises and the rhythm track parting to make way for it every bar or so. I can feel your confidence growing with some of the more out there hits towards the end. The main thwack in the first section felt a bit harsh but I should probably recognise that is total hypocrisy on my part..

    @richardyot - Feel The Breeze:

    You are turning into one catchy songsmith. After the first few lines the singing is a lot more confident and tuneful. I found the reverb a bit dense, didn't mind the amount of it just that it could have been a bit lighter in character. I struggle with applying reverb because I avoided it completely for years as I didn't want that sheen so I understand the difficulty in finding a reverb with the right character.

    @AlterEgo_UK - The Shades:

    About a third of the way in I half expected you to break into Thriller. Great stuff, the mood was spot on, loved the chirruppy noises.

    @Igneous1 - Adjacent Investment:

    Great energy and really nice the way the different lead lines overlap and feed each other. Couldn't help wondering whether there might be about 4 songs you could create out of the different sections as they were all quite catchy in their own ways.

    Phew! Great variety this month. Will finish commenting on the rest tomorrowish.

    My six-year-old son and I have played music together his whole life. Here's a little song he wrote by singing into my voice recorder, and I sampled using the Mini Sampler in Cubasis. I filled it out with drums from Waldorf Attack, 8bit goodness from SidTracker64, and some iProphet.

    Great stuff - quirky, interesting and I enjoy the chip-tune noises. I must do a collaboration with my 7 year old, though he tends to draw Minecraft characters on a step sequencer so might not be as tuneful as this one! Nice to include your kids into your music making projects, I'm sure they'll get a lot from it.

    Enjoyed the singing and electronicl minimal backing, but didn't watch the visuals affer seeing the first few seconds....not really my cup of tea. Did like the music though. Think I preferred the previous song I commented on, more of a story/journey. It's great that you've opened up and doing full vocal sing songs now.

    Cracking bassline, but like JG's entry I'm struggling to make out the words...could be my old ears. Good funky vibe though!

    @Matt_Fletcher_2000 - Ocular

    Love the little repeating synth melody that comes in after the two minute mark - wobbly call and answer across the spacewaves, lovely. Perfectly recorded and structured track as always, a very mature piece of work. Find the synth brass/horn sound a bit intrusive but apart from that clever use of synth sounds.

    Tardy as usual.

    When I first listened to it on headphones the sudden change at 0.30 nearly made me jump out of my chair, so I prepared myself for surprises after that bit. Like all good leftfield music and art, this track takes me on a journey, evoking different emotions along the way. When it finished I immediately fired up my synths - one of those very rare moments where a track will inspire me to go and create something of my own.

    This is your most accessible track I've heard so far, but without compromising your creativity or originality it still hits the spot.

    This is clever stuff. My only criticism would be the ending - the track deserves more than a quick fade out. My favourite track this month though.

    I'm guessing it's a SunVox powered song - really tempting me to buy this app now!

  • @rkmonkey very good bass line and jaunty piano line. The vocals occasionally slip out of tune, and also the mixing of the drums could be better, the cymbals especially sound quite harsh at times, and I think the vocals need to come up a bit.

    I definitely get the sense that you you have been growing in confidence and ambition over the last few months, keep 'em coming.

  • @Jocphone pretty creepy sounding experimental ambient piece, could be a soundtrack to a horror film. I found it quite unsettling to listen to, some of the sounds really put me on edge, both the higher pitched ones and the low rumbling ones. It's a good piece of sound design, not sure I would listen to it as a leisure activity though :)

    All the talk of Cocteau Twins earlier in the thread makes me wonder what this would sound like if it had Elisabeth Fraser singing over the top of it.
