I am kind of suprised TC11 doesnt get more love but I guess it just fits a little niche for me that I happen to be very partial to.
I can't think of any unsung apps that don't get gotten around to in these here parts, but I do agree with the Oscilab nods - it's one of those I am still trying to grok but it is definitely worthy.
I second Voco and I'll add Filtatron to the list.
Going way back, but Yumi:synth from the maker of Jasuto. Even the developer disregards it, apparently, but I always enjoy digging it back up. Despite it's limited Stylophone whine, there's soul in there somewhere.
String emulation must be a tricky mother, because I'm still waiting for Blue Mangoo to release iFretless-String.
I know what you're talking about, have the same wetted feet concerning mixtikl, the water never rised, but noatikl is different story, my main come-to and have a swim-in-app...
Nanostudio . Still gets some praise (beyond me!) but think it's entirely overlooked as a stand alone synth/sampler app in the more modern iOS era of sequencers with MIDI OUT. NS is so good at being self contained, yet lacks MIDI out, that most people don't think to use it for the other part of the equation: it's a 15 part multitimbral synth/sampler—with per-part insert and send effects—that uses fewer resources than Mail.app. Or so, anyway.
I still use and enjoy it as a stand alone app but as I spend more and more of my music making time using external hardware, NS remains a solid sound source for me via external sequencing. It's like having a rack mount JV or other multitimbral sound module with a much much better UI. I have a metric shit ton of presets and drum samples loaded into NS on my phone, leaving my iPad available for iSem or iMS-20 or [flavor of the week] Actually been considering getting something like a JV or a Blofeld but I should probably just buy a used iPod touch to dedicate to NS.
So yeah, not exactly "unsung" but not sure people have sung its entire repertoire.
Also, NanoLoop, Bebot, Sir Sampleton and +1 @ Samvada.
Some good callouts above (especially Crystal).
I would put TriqTraq on the list.
A pretty unique little sequencer and capable of sample parameter locking that I wish some other apps had
@eustressor thanks for Scratch Disc - and it's free.
I would like to add iElectribe. Not exactly unsung, but under rated I think:
it sounds so good
it's rock solid
nice effects
it has that glitch pad
every knob has midi cc in, plus midi program changes. You could hook it up to hardware and have a great hardware-esque drum machine (even using an iPhone)
it sounds so good
I think we seem to be straying off the 'synth' category - if we're going to add rhythm and sampler apps I could post a dozen goodies here...
I bought it when it first come out. Great sounds, but for me the lack of live tweaking options let it down.
TC-11 is one of those apps I sort of dream of being stranded on a desert island with (and no other apps...maybe a recorder). I'm quite sure in my non-stranded mind that if I invested more energy into it I'd be incredibly happy about it. When I do open it, I approach it as an instrument vs a synth to tweak. I've just thus far been pretty much confined to its (rather lovely) built-in 'instruments' do to lack of strandedness and other shiny, more approachable objects interfering.
Don't recall if Sunvox was already mentioned. Also, Guide Track is another app by the DD dev that has a lot of potential but rarely gets mentioned.
Triq Traq.
Guide Track! I'll brush the dust off and try again...
Yeah, I should be happy not to tweak (as I do with Thumbjam and iFretlesses) but as it's a synth and not a sampled instrument, I'm missing a great big LFO knob for example. I love the sounds, but I want to mess with them more while I'm playing - I know you can programme some of this in but I don't want to have to plan my tweaks beforehand. I think it would be more popular if they added the option to display a few performance knobs for the tweakers and twiddlers amongst us. Frustrating, as some of the presets are stunning.
I love iFretless Bass. Once my beats are loaded up into Launchpad, I trigger one, jump to iFB, set the looper, then just work out a delicious baseline. Export to AudioCopy, then straight into my Launchpad library, where it is perfectly trimestretched w/ any BPM I settle on. The organic bass flavor is only enhanced by Launchpad's sublime delays & filters.
Uh-oh. It's -of course- not even occurred to me to do this....there goes the morning.
I had a dream that I could send the data created by the beautiful Oscilab interface to other apps. @Rustik's post (and a little exploration) made me see that that dream is a reality. :-) Thank you @Rustik and thank you Oscilab developer for creating a magical automation generator.
We demand more specific information about this dreamy exploration!
Ahh yes, all good points regarding TC11. a few sliders and knobies on the side would be great. i like to run it through my Korg minikp2. My aproach has always been more along the lines of record a bunch of happy accident stuff with varying tweaks, with and without effects, then edit it all together. but for full on live performance I can totaly see your points.
*Open one of the editor windows where you edit notes & automation
*Tap the MIDI tab (SYNTH, SAMPLES, MIDI)
*Between the MIDI button and little mini keyboard where you set the scale there's a drop down labeled with the MIDI channel in red letters (default is "CHANNEL #1")
HTH
It's juicy. You just arm iFB's loop feature, start playing on the 1, then when you're done, tap the huge loop button again, on the 1. If you're off, just try again! You'll know when you nail it. Export the approved one, and go!! There are a few glaring omissions in the app (Audioshare export, mainly), but DAMN it sounds good.
Ten points and unspecified dessert to be named at a later date etc. Thanks!
I love ifretless generally, but the bass option in particular. Use it all the time. The KILLER is that I had no idea there was a loop option ....still don't quite believe you (I know, the sound of denial meeting ignorance is colossal , but will wander off into the happy weeds with my pith helmet and so forth....
When you have the options tray open, you'll see a little button on the opposite side of the screen, on the bottom.
Just hope it wasn't a wet dream.
Welcome to the family.
I'd second SynthX @knewspeak!
Bottom left?
Loop button - record button appears in upper left?
Unless I am crazy
@RustiK @Icepulse
Wonderful. Guess that's what you get for not paying attention. At all.
The only downside is now having the nagging suspicion that there are probably fifty other key things I'm missing out here in app world....
Thanks again.
SpaceVibe is pretty fun.
