AdHoc networks are are one way to solve it. I don't think Bluetooth has been ruled out as a future option.
The Audiobus team instanty brings us all to tears of joy.
@Sebastian Out of curiosity, will the Spectacular sync engine---which I think is based on MIDI clock---also work with Link?
I've been pondering what the most wide-ranging and effective way of implementing clock sync within LoopTree is. I'm wondering if the Spectacular sync engine will be a neat one-stop-shop
Please wait for an announcement about that in a week or so. We didn't want to confuse users and devs by talking about two things involving sync today.
@Sebastian sure
I would imagine that a router could be used too, the network isn't needed for Internet, just connecting devices.
Cool, i recently start to use Live bought a Push and now this, is what i need.
Thanx Sebastian and team.
Ableton knows people want this over wires and not air too, so who knows where this might go eventually
yay!
What sort of timeframe are we looking at for this?
Will Ad Hoc networks work with this?
I haven't tested it yet but to my knowledge they should.
After consulting with Ableton the only thing I can say is: soon.
This is such a great development. My virtual musical enviroment comes together really close, Ableton becoming the hub of it all with my rewired Reason Rack, my plugins and now perfectly synced iOS world
I hope this works with Rock Drum Machine. That'll be awesome!
I haven't tested it yet but to my knowledge they should.
@Sebastion Thanks.
Any minimum iOS system (iOS 9?) requirement for Link?
This is exciting. Thanks!
I'm excited about Link, but also excited about the prospect that Ableton is paying attention to mobile music making. I hope this is just the tip of the iceberg and that they're also making Live 10 touch friendly and continuing down the path of ios/computer integration like the Korg Gadget partnership.
I've just had one of the worst weeks of my life but this news has definitely cheered me up a bit!!
It's quite funny really, because when I look thru the list of apps on the Ableton Link page I can also spot iMPC Pro, hopefully this also means that at some point in the future it will also get AB support as it would save them (Retronyms) some coding time if I 'read correctly between the lines' that the new AB SDK will have Link support built in
The new Audiobus SDK will not have Link support built in. I know this might be a little confusing. Ableton manages Link and the Link SDK. But there will be a new Audiobus SDK that allows the Audiobus app to turn on Link in all apps that are connected to Audiobus. Think of it like Background audio that is enabled automatically while being connected to Audiobus.
We're also going to include an 'Ableton Link' badge for compatible apps on our compatible apps list so you can search for/be notified about newly Ableton Link compatible apps.
How many more times can I say Ableton Link in this, I wonder. Ableton Link, Ableton Link.
Seriously though, I'm really looking forward to this.
I have goosebumps on my goosebumps! lol
this is very dank
I've got it working with Patterning, and yes, it's awesome.
@Sebastian, Does Apple know about this? How would this affect AU development? Does this help keep iOS as the platform of choice for mobile music making?
Here it is with Elastic Drums, that looks tight
I don't know. I don't know (probably doesn't have any impact). Yes.
Maybe we'll see an piece of Ableton branded ad hoc network hardware. Or maybe Push 2.1 gets a wifi router built in?
No to number one, doubtful for number two. Ableton said they only ever want to make one piece of hardware, Push.
What a total coup it was for Ableton to get the AB team on board in terms of iOS user and developer adoption.
Do you envision this as the sort of thing that users can control? Like, do you imagine AB apps with the new SDK are going to add a "Enable AB->Ableton Link Session" option like they generally do for background audio? Or an "it just works" feature?
Can you talk about....
Or if my mind is too 1987 and none of this matters in this brave new world?
