I have been happily running Auria on an iPad Air 1 with iOS 8. Today I notice that the file size of Aurio 2.0 is almost triple the file size (760mb) of the previous version, Aurio 1.1555 (261mb). I'm wondering how this will affect RAM usage and overall performance.

Query for anyone who is running Aurio 2 with Air 1 hardware: does Aurio 2.0 run as smoothly as the previous version? (I realize that it didn't run smoothly at all on iOS 9, because Audiobus was broken. By "smoothly" here, though, I mean: is the app still responsive? do you have to freeze tracks more often?)
Runs more efficiently for me on a loaded Air 1. iOS 8.2. Like 5-10% CPU reduction on first blush :)

A rumour that wasn't quashed. Neither here nor there, the damage is done for me. Enjoy the new thing.

If you check the link just posted by @Hmtx you will see that Rim did try and quash it over on the Auria forum. His response to the pricing post last February was "That's not correct. We haven't announced any upgrade pricing."

It's obvious there was no intent to mislead:

  • Any screen grabs of the piano roll available please?

Yes, very interested from testers or others to hear thoughts compare/contrast etc as regards the piano roll as for me (me, me) this is the big banana at this particular table...
  • RockySmalls, no one is forcing you to buy the upgrade.  Remember, this is not an update, those are free, and the update to Auria 2.0 has a lot of value.  I improved the performance in Auria quite a bit from 1.555 to 2.0.  As an existing Auria user, nothing is being taken away from you, in fact I've given you quite a bit for free, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

On the other hand, Auria Pro is a brand new product with entirely new features.  Two powerful synthesizers, a sample player with a 4GB library, MIDI support, real-time audio warping, etc. etc.  It might as well have a different name.  But I decided to call it Auria Pro.  And I also decided to give Auria users a break on the price.  I didn't have to do that.  Seems fair to me.

  • Gotta join in and say give my initial impressions for the upDATE, Auria 2.0: It loaded with my last project intact and exactly as I'd left it (EPIC!). All of my plugins were in place and running, in both frozen and unfrozen tracks. All appeared installed from my insert drop down menu. Love the new look.

The new look is snifty, and I have to wonder how much the vector graphics are reducing the CPU load, or whether it's general improvements under the hood. I'm on an Air 1, and adding the Pro-L used to bump my CPU up by 10-15%. Now it's closer to a 5% hit. And that's with 2x Dithering on, although I don't know why I dither ...

The upgrade path is easy to see. The legacy Pro-C and Pro-Q are still supported, so you won't lose those. You don't lose anything. WML knows what they're doing. Yeah, it's $39.99 if you want to go Pro, but that 40 bucks also gets you a sampler, lots of MIDI goodness, time BPM and signature tracks, transfer of all your existing plugins (including legacy), external hard drive support, oh - and a new synth. Fair 'nuff. I wants it, but will probably wait for Christmas.

QUESTION: I'd also like to get a compatible hard drive, since my Auria app is currently hogging almost 50GB out of an available 114 or so. I've had the SansDisk Lightning/USB drives recommended to me by a good source - any opinions out there on that drive or any others? The more GB the better, so long as it plays nice with Auria PRO. Also, does PRO let you "see" directories on an external drive, like the way you can view and transfer files to and from Dropbox currently? That project/file level visibility and transfer would be AWESOME.

SUMMARY: Free Auria 2.0 upDATE - everything's there, no restore necessary. Runs more efficiently. Looks gorgeous. Auria Pro upGRADE path is clear and present if you want it. Looking forward to reports/vids/reviews from early PRO adopters :)

Great post and spot-on simplifying summary. And also interested in an answer to your QUESTION.

Looking forward to using the upgrade of Auria but have shot my considerable bolt lately and am going to have to do some jobs around the house/scour the sofa for lost coins etc. before I get the new version (which I definitely will). Christmas is indeed coming however and I think it might be on the list, helps to get some buy-in (literally) from the Managing Director. For now happy to work with the free upgrade, although there will come a time where I will go on about how I miss the teak love handles etc...

and in the software world I think it is acceptable, even standard practice to:
    1. offer minor updates to x.x versions for free. Auria's original 1.x updates and the 2.0 update seems to fall in this category
    2. Offer x.0 major version upgrades at full price of the original app (MS office, for example). Auria Pro could fall in this category(new major version; full price). Some developers do give discounts to existing customers of previous version releases, but not expected.
@Rim has been kind to offer any discount to Auria users who want Auria Pro. Lets lay off the guy and get back to making use of his hard work :)  It looks stunning
  • Not an owner but from reading through, it sounds like WML is doing a pretty good job of offering quality software at fair prices.

Looking forward to trying it out someday.

I can not insert the Fabfilter Twin2 and One to the midi track, I dunno!

There is yellow color for the title seated inside the midi slot, however, It seems that Version 2 upgrade to Pro made me confusing now. Any comment?
  • see photo, I can not bring Twin2 to the midi track. Not implemented yet?

touchconspiracy  This is a personal attack, and speculating about peoples' character and habits.

this is the kind of comment we normally don't see around here (yes, I can tell you are joking and you didn't name anyone, but still...)

You delete yours and i'll delete mine ;-) ;-)

That's strange it's working for me on the beta and never had that problem.....

For sure, this isn't NI Komplete pricing, but I'm still saying that £40 is a fair wodge, so I'II be mulling over the upgrade. With buying Timeless and Volcano, I've spent more on Auria than on any other app (I think).

I don't smoke, by the way.

  • Heres a photo

  • @syrupcore, @Redo1, most definitely playable on mini1 here. Reasonably.

    Help, please! Anyone?
  • Yes, how about the midi editor in Auria Pro? Is it zooming and pinching, and adding and deleting notes allright?

Great experience on inserting notes, at least better than what I experienced on other apps.
  • We just noticed that issue with Twin2 and One.  Seems to only happen on upgrades from Auria to Pro.  To solve it, delete Auria and reinstall from the App Store.  Then, restore purchases to get the Pro upgrade again.  Just make sure to back up all your projects first.

One thing is for sure is that WML goes the extra mile to listen to its customers. Most if not all the new features in Auria Pro came from the Auria users themselves. Rim just coded what they asked for and more. Unheard of from an iOS developer.  I own all the major daws on iOS and no other developer has taken the time and care that Rim has . I see many posts and requests on other daw forums that never get answered and features that were asked for years ago never implemented. As for the price well I just bought iM1 by korg  on the black friday sale and it was $25 here in Canada just for one synth. You get 3 synths in Auria Pro, Audio Transpose, Audio quantize, Paint note insert, EXS sample support for all your Logic samples, SF2 SFz import, and I have been trying to produce a great feature video for my AIR Studio and its been hard because there are so many new features I am having problems keeping the video short and sweet but informed and technical as my channel is known for. The desktop prices for the Twin2 is very expensive and we have the same synth as they do. Pro C2 and ProQ2 are amazing and you can have it in your workflow. No other app has gone as far as to resource outside plugin developers as WML.  There is great value in this new product and it wont take long for most of the users to realize that. There will always be the ones who are just never really satisfied or just like to harp on Auria gate as they call it. Not sure what the purpose is as its up to an individual to decide what is good value to them and what is not. I often am in wonder why some people join the Auria forum to just say something nasty about WML and then when we reply to them  ,they never respond and log in later under a new name to continue their rant. Who are these people and why do they do that? Were not kids buying this were adults and as a matter of fact most of the iOS audio users are old and grey so I think we can decide on these matters on our own. So go ahead and post nasty shit but it wont change the minds of those of us who appreciate what WML has contributed to the iOS recording eco system. Thats my rant and I deserve this one as I worked hard as did the other beta testers to get you the best possible experience with Auria Pro. After working on Auria Pro for a month now I can't even go back to my regular Auria thats how attached I have become to it. I know it well and for those of you who want to dive deep into it join me and my videos on how to do just that. Cheers everyone and this is indeed a cool day.

It's obvious there was no intent to mislead.

That's how I recall WML's handling of AuriaProGate - no pricing information/speculation came from Rim.
Whether there was intent or not, it's not just me who think this, I notice on the Auria forum (and apparently Facebook) other customers also expected a 50% discount:

"Re: Auria Pro and Auria 2.0 going live today!

    Postby sELF » Thu Dec 03, 2015 8:14 am
Rim, wasn't this posted earlier in the year? For the people who bought Auria then whilst waiting for the update? There are complaints going on on Facebook that they were misinformed...This is what's being said: The quote from the forum. Auria Pro will be available Spring 2015 and will be priced at $49.99. Existing Auria users will be able to purchase an in-app upgrade to Auria Pro for a reduced price. Pricing for the standard Auria version will be $24.99."

And no, none of those have been posted by me.

  • @Htmx .. I don't think Touchconspiracy started it, but for the record , no drinky, no smokey, plenty APPy. And I take yr point number 2 about some software upgrading at full price ( I am still on audition 3 fer dogs sake ) but do we really want to emulate Microsoft office? I though this was a friendlier and fairer environment. The difficulty for Rim is if he has pitched the upgrade at a level that reduces customer uptake there isn't an easy road back, lowering it later to a more 'attractive' level will anger those that already paid. The few that have expressed the opinion that maybe he has made a slight tactical error have been met with unintelligent 'suck it up' arguments of a ridiculously personal nature. Totally unnecessary and is if Rim was some sort of church with believers and none believers..  True, there is the final fact.. Either you pay and enjoy or stick with the old gear, perfectly good as it is. But pointing out that you are not completely happy is not nor ever will be a crime. Rim needs feedback so he can gauge which customers he is not reaching and why. This forum is one of the places that occurs. Anyway I look forward to hearing how great it all is and the January sales...
  • Right and the "standard" not Auria Pro price is now $24.99.  We are talking about the Pro version.

All it says here is that "Existing Auria users will be able to purchase an in-app upgrade to Auria Pro for a reduced price." The reduced price is only $10 off but it never says how much of a discount the Pro version will be.

Maybe the confusion is because people misread this and assumed the standard version is the pro version.
