Modstep, but I'm biased lol
I am Cream's fan, but after purchase Modstep, I say to myself, if only one, that would be Modstep! But, I will get both for sure!
Oh ok, thought they both put out 4 channels of sequenced MIDI (or internal instruments)? Need to watch a few vids really, but this looks the most user friendly of the two.
Oh, monzo, you got to be kidding! Modstep is so good to touch with fingers.
I think Modstep can put out as many channels as your device can handle!
Modstep piano roll sequencing is world's best for iPad, What best? best for fill in notes for sequencing!
My subjective opinion! So you trust my opinion or not? You decide!
Ah right, sounds like I need both then!
Great, monzo! I am going to sent my son to school, bye!
I am puzzled but willing.
modstep and cream, funny timing they both arrive the same day
@Kaikoo, you're saying modstep has better piano roll than auxy?
it does look a bit like something that could replace auxy ...
in that case, both!
Can't get any sound out of this thing at all. Pretty animations are tantalising me, but no audio, either from the internal synth or from one connected via virtual MIDI.
I can only assume I'm missing something both basic and obvious, but I've switched every button and twiddled every knob and nada.
I do not have iPhone version of Auxy! But for iPad version, my speech is from my hand and brain experiences by purchasing and few refunding of all iPad sequencers and arps and DAWs! how that sounds?
Plus, modulations drawing on Modstep also the best!
it's pretty, it sounds good and it does a lot of shit.
@richardyot: try the hold button and then hit a key.....I was very puzzled looking for Play and not finding it....off to roast a chicken etc. Good luck....
Yep disqualified
Ok so both apps seems to be the consensus here. I'm agreeing, it's just...I'm trying to save some moniez for Xmas noodles. Times are hard. And so are 1st world problems.
Which app have the most competent/complete built-in synth engine?
Me too, have you figured out how to make some noise?
@ChrisG
I think a lot of choice with apps is about the feel of the app. That indescribable feeling you get when creating just feels right.
No spec, opinion or you tube vids in the world can describe it. I don't think even demos really help, as when you get to the level of Modstep in complexity, there is a learning curve before you really see how good it is.
Modstep fits the way I like to use its feature set, for you this may vary. Remember though, I have been using all the different versions of betas for months now. I can't even see the price as I'm still using the beta.
I will get it no matter the cost though, as it's changing my plans for how I use my iPad. No longer am I going to get a second iPad. I'm going to get some hardware instead now and use Modstep to sequence my iPad synths.
@ChrisG ,
Modstep has freq spectrum plus highest spectrum plot with pitch envelope detuned, LFO with predefined shapes. Complete real time modulations on whatever 64 wavetable you draw, mapable cc, plus high low shelf filter, plus 3 types of filters combined morph and unlimited tracks in theory! With midi cc in and out and clock in and out. That is huge with additional samplers and IAA multi tracks.
K Cream can not be purchased at my country's app store. I don't know about it.
I'm a fan of Cream on desktop, but I don't have it on iPad yet and Modstep looks cool and Studiomux works great for me, so I don't know. Tough call without being able to try them both first. Cream is cheaper, so if money is an issue, maybe go for that one.
Some of us are going to need some help. I had a sequence running, but came back and a) couldn't remember how I worked the magic and b) couldn't work the magic again. Did get the drum patterns running (cool) but have no idea what's what. Gosh I'm missing TSTR Guidance about now
Hi!
Tap the Instrument editor button in the top left, then in the Osc section, under Voice 1 select a voice, eg 12 string, then play the Cream keyboard. To play another app, tap the settings cog in the top right, go to the midi out setting and select network midi, then in another app, eg animoog, set Cream as midi in.
All the best!
Give this man any prize from the top shelf. Stat.
Thanks everyone. You've given me lots of food for thought here. I shall need to ponder on all this over a nights sleep!
In the end I'll obviously get'em all, but trying my hardest to keep that appoholism in check. So it's 1 app and 1 app only for now (I'm liek 99.9% sure of that..).
You're welcome To get the drums playing turn the drum loop button on, then click the line to select a loop name, eg 4x4, THEN press Load, if u don't press load, it will revert back to an empty loop. Then when you press a key your drum loop will play
All the best!
Argh, that color scheme reminds me of Windows XP
That would be a can of PBR around here
The promo video that came out with its release sounds much more melodic and to my liking than the first couple on the Facebook page. I was surprised in fact it sounds very nice.
Hello #gdog and thanks for chiming in. I've been able to create sounds in the instrument editor but when I call up any presets I don't hear anything. Midi is working, any thoughts on the presets sounds?
Hi all , Day 1 Lurker finally registered .
I was a Cream mobile beta tester , though I'm dropping in unofficially .
A few tips for Cream operation :
Whether using internal or external keyboard you need to set the Note Range ( Top Left Corner under Track numbers ) so your input notes are within that range for each track ,
& if using external keyboard your Cream input midi channel needs to match keyboard channel .
I use an external keyboard with channels 1-4 , with Tracks midi set 1-4 , so I can use full range of keyboard on all tracks (C2-C8 )
Remember Cream is primarily an arpeggiator , so it needs notes input to trigger .
FYI I posted this earlier on Ipad Musician FB Group ,
As a longterm betatester for Cream Mobile I congratulate the nine months of singlehanded hard work of the dev in porting his already award winning VST to IOS . I am proud to have contributed to the effort & pleased so many of my suggestions have been implemented . Although there are more features to be added , I understand that he wanted to release now.
There is a learning curve to Cream as it is deep and flexible , but having four tracks makes the time put in worthwhile as the different modes of working can be used together .
It is primarily an arpeggiator , in that the engine is triggered by note(s) input , so there is no play button , but it's programmability allows it to function like a mono/polyphonic sequencer & its chord memory allows single key triggering either realtime or sequenced . Each track also has a Pattern Sequencer providing a sort of SongMode .
Not only are the four tracks independent ( except Global settings including Scales ) but each element of each track ( Order, Velocity,Length, Transpose, Div, Seq etc + 8 cc Lanes ) are DISCRETE , meaning their Loop length , play direction etc can be set independently , allowing for a few simple variations to generate complex patterns .
Quick poor test with a little Geoshred:
