True.... and it will reach the price category of macbook pros then too!
With an iPhone operating system....
What can i do with a pro that i cant do with an air 2 in terms of music?
I know what i can do with my mac book that i cant with my ipad for sure...what is the draw?
Will they make an iPad Pro Mini?
Or if that’s too small to read, an iPad Pro Mini Huge that can unfold into something the size of a newspaper (remember them?).
Yes, they must really add something software wise.
Now with the iPad Pro 12.9" 256GB WiFi plus 4G i see a shocking 1419€ in the german store.
For less you get a high end notebook!!!
I guess theres drawing in automation with the pencil as opposed to my finger
But this works pretty good with mouse and trackpad too.
For drawing the iPad Pros are for sure good!
I suppose Auria would be an obvious beneficiary for the extra ram and cpu....i wonder how much extra it can run on a pro vs air 2
Then again its the recall issue with larger projects which i guess AU's will resolve over time
IOS devices seems sadly in general not optimized (or allowed) to use all resources for audio processing.
Also not sure if multi-core support is possible.
That"s possible of course. It's just not as simple maths as "3 core gives automatically 33% more power for audio than 2 core".But Auria is using all cores, that's at least what rim told me.
For the first time, I'm considering buying a wifi only iPad.
Other than not being able to access internet over cellular, are there any other disadvantages I should know about related to music making?
(I plan to keep my iPad Air 2 with Logitech keyboard as my "work" iPad. )
Initial tests that gave me some glitches last week went fine. Loopy, Turnado, Samplr all in Audiobus recorded into audioshare. No obvious issues.
Hmm, I haven't seen anything about 3D Touch
No 3D Touch on iPhone SE either, that's interesting
Yep I think the slow down of new cpu speed increases will be a good thing in a way since they'll be forced to give more storage options and other improvements to entice us to upgrade in the future.
Thanx. Tomorrow i will updare then
Good thought.
Yes but the unreal prices are going to be crazy to replace 6 years old pc's
Just replace your old PC with a new and you still have money for a used older iPad!
If that is the future to buy tablets which can do less and cost more than notebooks/pc's i'm scared
I suspect many people will consider this quite a viable idea, then end up buying a cheap Chinese android tablet at a tenth of the price to tolerate for several years. Having said that, buying a new device to replace the old device doesn’t replace the old device — the old device still exists.
A few weeks ago I dug into the sedimentary layers of redundant and annoying technology to fish out the old pathetic Acer Aspire One netbook with an 8GB SSD in, to install Ubuntu Mate onto to set up a little server on (it’s fine for that and is marginally more convenient than a Raspberry Pi 2).
You're right, you're right, you're right....except for the part of having to sit at this desk with this PC when in two minutes I have to make breakfast for my kid and while the eggs are bubbling I will turn on my iPad out in the kitchen in a second and go back to where I left off etc. It's the addictiveness of the mobile fruit that makes your argument invalid as regards comparing apples to immovable objects etc.
Yes, part of the reason that I'm so committed to mobile music making is precisely because it gets me away from the computer.
I totally understand that many people need the power of a full OS - I'm the same in my day job where I use 3D software all day long, and it will be years before what I can do with that on the desktop will be possible on a tablet (it's not even vaguely on the horizon right now).
But for my music hobby, getting away from a computer, even a laptop, feels liberating. Which is why I can put up with the compromises, not least of which is having to deal with Apple.
The mobile part is a major factor for me. The other one is touch (freedom from mouse/trackpad)
Also Apple stuff still has excellent resale value so sacrificing the old one and getting a new one shouldn't be oh-so-painful.
Oh hell, my iPad Air(1st gen) is still rocking. So I won't be updating for at least another year. But I admit- that new smaller Pro has piqued my interest.
But that also works with every modern notebooks today!
While laying in bed feeling like I've come worse off in a fight with a dumper truck, I've just pieced together 2 musical ideas for jamming with.
Back in the old days, I would have had to walk into my studio. Switch all the power on. Wait for certain gear to load up or reach a certain temperature. Set mixer and monitor levels. Still waiting for my PC to load. Wiggle a few cables into life. Spend 5 minutes wondering why I had unplugged the compressor from the usual channels last session. Fix the PC crash with a quick kick. Check my midi routings against my hastily scribbled notes.
And finally switch everything off as the wife is calling me for dinner.
By which time no music was produced.
Long live my iPad
I agree but for some things like turning a knob or slider to an exact value, multi touch with finger sucks!
The pencil could help here maybe.
I understand that but many people seems to compare it to their old pc's and setups.
How i said, modern notebooks can do that all too.
I was hoping to get pleased with the new iPad Pro but now that i know that the smaller one use just usb 2 it is a bit of bummer for me again.
The large one is just way too expensive.
Still thinking about to buy a used one because i want to be able to use NanoStudio 2.... if that comes ever i mean.
Agree, a modern computer or notebook has its place too. Same goes for hardware.
Don't doubt I would still have a studio if I could still afford one
I've always had Wifi only iPad Mini 2, never had a problem with net Access, If I'm at home or in town I can find a wifi, if not then I just use my phone as a wifi hotspot
Who remembers the old rendering progress windows ?
