There is a lot of 'low-end' in this app but I miss the more advanced tweaking for creating sounds.
For those who need bass-sounds without the urge to tweak will surely find this app well worth it!

    What features are you missing?

Bought the upgrade. Sounds amazing! Future feature request would be retriggered and tempo synced LFO... Either Ableton Link or can't it automatically pick up a clock from AU?

That would turn this into a wobbly bassalicious monster.

  • It was stated earlier, but worth stating again, we already knew about the preset selection with the MIDI Keyboard. Working on that.....LFO Sync to Tempo is a good idea...Added to the list

  • Hey @Samu You got to give us a little credit on the Aftertouch on the LFO and the Velocity on the Filter

It's one FAT synth that's for sure.
Love playing around with it in Cubasis, works very well! (Including track-freeze).
I don't miss AB support at all and if that is needed routing to AB can be done using AUM.

Velocity to Filter is pretty neat as is the assignable mod-wheel ;)

it would be very cool to lock the keyboard to scales or some special neo soul scales to do runs and stuff , where you couldn't hit wrong notes. but that's a conversation for another day :)

You can do this by opening in Modstep and using the Modstep keyboard.

What about velocity to volume? Is normal velocity sensitivity there and I'm just missing it?

thanks for the tip, I don't have modstep yet as every time I'm about to get it it seems like the dust hasn't settled yet, but I do have other apps that can accomplish this, it's just that if you've been following this dev like I have for quite a while you'll know that he is 'the dev' that should come out with a themed midi controller app like that, he's put out allot of other tutorial products to teach those things and a midi controller app based on his teachings would be sick, a controller set up with all the chords/scales that he teaches that you could play like sound prism etc... it would probably make 3 times as much as this bass synth app

  • Reporting back my iPad condition:

I can not do anything about BASSalicious on Modstep track,

it made my Modstep a zombie.

I finally delete my Modstep to reinstall. :(

    Air2 iOS 9.32

  • I had the same problem, i fixed it by deleting all autosaves and the current project the kill modstep... But i dont know if its modstep or bassalliscous wich is broken....

  • It doesn't even work with thesys. Why would you go with this when DRC is better? I know it is AU but I see no presets. Would take an AU version of DRC anytime...

  • @NTKK run the FreEWI app and then it will connect and run with Thesys.

That's exactly what I did LOL

    +1 for this

  • Really lovin' this app. I can't say I'm able to picture the sound that I want and then systematically build it, but I can say half-way into the process I get something totally unexpected that is so good I stop right there!

I think what I'm struggling with is the envelopes, particularly the filter envelopes. They just don't seem to react the same way as other envelopes I'm used to. Is it maybe that the scale is logarithmic or factored in some way?

I'm used to the envelopes in apps like BassLine, Model 15, iSem, and Rebirth. With those I know just where to set things to get what I want. For some reason with BASSalicious I don't have that feel. Maybe it's just me.

But ... like I said. Love this app!!

@GospelMusicians Looking forward to giving this a go. Sounds like it sounds great. Little bit concerned about your comment on AB. I know nothing's set in stone, but despite how 'tricky' it might be, do you imagine that, say, in three months this will be on board?

I can't say for now.....We have AudioBus in there already, but we are working on getting it working. I can't give you a date.

    Appreciate your honesty.

    hmmmm..

I find that non AB apps don't get used for me.

I buy them with the best intention and then-- ofota a

  • Not to mention the huge free marketing potential. AB apps get promoted on the site and within the app. That's something you definitely don't get by just adding AU or IAA support.

I've bought more than one app that caught my eye in the pop-up menu in AudioBus or when idly browsing the list on the web site.

Given the relatively few specifically Bass oriented apps in the AB lists, I would think that would provide significant exposure.

  • Well, it's been a few days ... Am I correct in thinking BASSalicious is something of a leaner, meaner Cyclops? I do love me some sub-rattlin' bass. I can't quite get a feel for it with the free version yet. Read the thread, still unsure ...

That oomph needs extra fx, that is not within the BASSalicious. BASSa has no extra or any fxs. The sound would be thicker with all 4 oscillators. Ya, internally speaking there are quite a few selections for oscillator forms and for filter.

It can express the sounds that Cyclop can not do. Both apps I felt quite different. Frankly, I quite like more BASSa than Cyclop.

It must be fixed to play Modstep sequencers. The sound is awesome, man! Waiting for the update.

I picture you as always smiling with sunshine and flowers coming out of your eyes, Kaikoo! Thank you very much for the feedback. I don't mod my step just yet, so that's OK.

I just found this vid, though, which helped me understand why @GospelMusicians are so down with the AU solution - your recordings in Garageband are automagically in Midi - slow them down, speed it up, clean it up. And this video makes me want to BE Jamaal, just long enough to lay down such a funky groove so quickly :)

Quite an endorsement Mr Kaikoo - And the tipping-point for me unlocking BASSalicious.

This video is fantastic. Some real Stevie Wonder sounds coming through here. Now I just wish I could play the keys that well.

I love it that I can add my own fx. It just do what I need it to do. That is flexible. Pretty much another Enkl kind of app doing bass and bass lead with AU. Of course, sounds quite different with Enkl. Good for modulators and natural keyboard players. So users groups would not be so limited.

Btw, forgot to say, its knobs tweaking speed is fast, those knobs are very responsive without fiddle.

Excellent note and I'm already There - Thx Kaikoo

  • Thanks guys.....I wanted to point this out though. I'm not the Suger Bytes guy or the Spectrasonics guy of which I respect greatly.....I don't believe in cramming a bunch of features in a product that is not necessary. Now I can do it and there is a place for it, but you can't really compare BASSalicious with a full on mod matrix synth. Our niche is sound, warmth, fatness, and color. We specifically re-created a psuedo wavetable synthesis method in which we didn't need to band limit. So our wavetables sound true to the source, as far as warmth goes. In fact if you play our saw wave from BASSAlicious and compare it with a standard band limited wavetable synth and the sound is night and day......

    That's a super endorsement!

  • what about a midi controller app jamaal?

  • Jamal, I know bassalicious is meant to be used as a bass player mostly, but can the standard gospel soft synth lead sound be recreated here? Or is there a preset that contains it? More than bass I play leads and that is the lead sound I love most of all. A bit of glide and portamento to make it sound sweet! Can it be done?

Having a properly monitored spin through the presets I must say that BASSalicious does something I always want low-end generators to do: give the feeling of pushing air even when not being played at forceful volume. Definitely feels like there's some special mojo happening under the hood here and I like it a whole lot.
