Thinking about cubasis

Hey all
So my workflow is as follows
I will usually start with a rhythm sequencing drum apps and some synths from patterning and then add synth ideas from gadget. Usually that ends up gettin sampled into either hardware or ableton live.
But I go away for work very often and have all these started ideas in the iPad that kinda go nowhere. Would it be beneficial for me to get into cubasis to render ideas to audio and then transfer them via Dropbox when I get home? Can you chop loops in cubasis? Also is it possible to use cubasis as a master for both patterning and gadget with out audiobus? Ie will both apps play if I press start from cubasis?
I am not keen on auria, it seems too complex for my needs, am I way off on that?
Cheers

I don't have Cubasis, so the only question I can answer is the last. The answer is "no" in Gadget's case. At least no one who owns Cubasis contradicted that the last time you asked.

I'd love to be wrong on that score, but I don't think so.

  • I do have Cubasis, and love it. Just the right amount of functionality for me, before taking a project to the Mac and Logic Pro X. I did have the original Auria, (now just a poor relation to the pro version) but wasn't happy.

  • How do you get your cubasis project from the iPad to the Mac?

I export whatever piece of the puzzle I'm working on, as one file, and upload it via Dropbox.

If you have Cubase, it can open Cubasis' projects

  • Cubasis is a sound investment, esoecially if it's still on sale!

Is there a case to be made that the old desktop style linear DAW may comfortably be replaced by something like Misstep on a mobile device. I'm thinking that one is a legacy old paradigm approach vs a modern lightweight one. Or is this flawed and illusory?

Are you referring Modstep or is Misstep...something new?

I think as long as audio tracks (non looping vocals etc) are a thing then linear based daws will be essential

    Autocorrect du Jour.
I have come to love the ease of auditioning ideas in Modstep, and after a somewhat steep learning curve (for a beginner), I love it. Although it IS opaque in terms of documentation, and if Cubasis 2.0 (when??) were to introduce a clip launcher as well? I'd never look back.

  • With Cubasis 2.0 just around the corner (I hope) it's a good choise.
I have too many apps (typical case of appoholism) and yet it's Gadget & Cubasis that gets used the most...

I almost never use any iOS DAW as such, for I prefer to send music to Logic on Mac. Anyway, I find some functions in Auria (Pro) very useful. I'm thinking about pitch change, stretch and audio warp, that work definitely well, maybe somehow better than the analog in desktop DAW (at least for tracks of small length).
This is my personal workflow, tho, and, to answer the original question, Cubasis is a very decent DAW, and a good buy if it is still on sale. At full price, I'd get Auria, but consider also that the learning curve is less steep with Cubasis.

Giving a second reading to your question, @jbvdb , I think that Audiobus, AUM and Audioshare are closer to what you are looking for

I've tried modstep, several times, too many bugs and crashes, not going back to that!

I will look into it thanks!

  • I wonder when this 2,0 update is coming, i heard they said before/durimg this summer......

  • I'm hoping Cubasis 2.0 will arrive very soon before summer vacations being all over Europe...
Maybe @LFS is already on vacation?

Next week I'll be heading to Finland for my vacation so remains to be seen if I can find reliable free wifi there if/when Cubasis 2.0 gets released :D

Haw! don't think that will be a problem. :)

  • Why is Finland now a third world country lol.

After looking into audioshare I think I am set on cubasis. Like I said I go away a lot for work and would like to start working more on ideas as opposed to just keeping them as loops until I get home.
Thinking of recording ideas into cubasis, sampling some of those into impc pro to chop and resequence, and adding more synths etc.
    Thanks all!

It's not but where I'm going the coverage has never been good for the past few years.
And honestly it's good for the mental health to stay away from the internet every now and then.

I do have cellular 3G/LTE-Coverage but with limited data-plans downloading large apps and updates isn't exactly budget-friendly :D

  • Ok one last thing I gotta make sure before pulling the trigger on this
Is it easy to set cubasis as a output in AUM? And then multi track all the outs from AUM?

  • You can route up to eight outputs in AUM to eight different audio tracks in Cubasis.

    Mono or stereo? Or both?

I completly agree. Same combo for me with the addition of BeatMaker 2 (single app that is really useable to timestrech, pitchshift and chop samples on iPad currently IMO).

And I also hope that Cubasis 2.0 is released before next week so that I can use my free time during holydays to make beautiful music lol ^^
(OT : I'd also love to see Loopy ME get released soon... It was also supposed to be released before/during summer).

    Peace

  • Ok just rethinking cubasis, is it possible to record the outputs of AUM into launchpad?

  • @jbvdb said:

Not directly, you can create recordings in AUM and then use AudioShare to import them into the Launchpad app.

  • And then can I use launch pad back into AUM?

  • edited July 2016

@jbvdb Yes, Launchpad can be used as an IAA generator in AUM plus they can both be in sync via Link.

I think this just sold me on cubasis, this is exactly what I had in mind! Synchronicity maybe?

  • Well after messing around with cubasis I am pretty happy I bit the bullet on it.
On question, is there no way to route tracks to busses? Or groups, however you want to call them

  • Not yet. Might be coming soon with the coming major update.
