I'm split between Auria Pro and Cubasis (old thread)
In my app cul I'm really doing quite well, but there are 2 apps I just can't decide which way to go - Auria Pro or Cubasis.
I really don't use half the feature set of Auria Pro and appreciate the ease of use of Cubasis. Should be an easy choice, I would save another 3.8gb space.
My main likes of Cubasis are ease of use, small footprint and AU option.
My main likes of Auria Pro are Twin2 and the other built in instruments, the wonderful plugins.
I'm split. If more of my fx and instrument apps went AU, I probably would live without the great Auria plugins.
Now I'm not posting this for a VS battle, both apps are wonderful and not looking at any negatives. Just wondered if any of you have faced a similar decision and how you decided.
It's not just for space issues, it's a matter of wanting to learn one DAW inside out to be more productive than chopping and changing all the time.
Please keep all stories positive and upbeat. Sure say if you think one of the apps lacks in areas, but let's not slag the apps off

After quite a bit of indecision and shifting, I went for AP.
I'm not very fond of the concept of a full featured DAW for iOS, but I find many functions in Auria useful. Cubasis I do not open since months.
All this for having fun, make things good for SC or YT, etc. For demanding, professional (i.e. paid for and accordingly judged) jobs, OSX is still needed
Agree that if I was doing more professional work, I would still go with a laptop. What swayed you towards AP?
I've kept both, but I've considered sidelining one of them before due to space constraints. Fortunately, I was able to prune other apps and files to keep both, for now. If I was forced, Cubasis would be the one to go solely because Auria does everything I need and I have some templates set up to facilitate recording. AUs would be nice, but I can work around that with AUM. However with Cubasis 2 on the horizon.....
If you want easy, go with Gadget or Garageband.
If you want power, go with Auria.
Cubasis falls between two stools: neither the easiest nor the most powerful. IMO of course, YMMV etc...
If you're planning to move things onto your desktop, then Cubasis is the more straightforward 'take advantage of iOS"s strengths to get ideas down' solution. If you're going to do everything on your iPad, from creation to pseudo-mastering,, then Auria, especially with the FabFilter plug-ins, is obviously just a dynamo. Never having a device with less than 128 gigs of storage is my solution to never having to decide between the two.
I keep both on my iPad
I just made this Sophie's Choice the other day, went with Cubasis cuz it annoys me less than Auria Pro & I also don't know dick about mixing/mastering this rendering all those AP features useless to me. But hopefully I will get an Air 2 128gb next week & reunite them, especially cuz I just bought Fabfilter Saturn and want to use it but couldnt live with the 2gig AP footprint on my 32gb 4th gen. Numbers!!
I use Cubasis because I like it, mostly.
I'll stay with Cubasis for some time to come...
Even if I've got smallish fingers the AP ui is too fiddly and needs a stylus to be useable. I may change my point of view when 15'+ iPads become available.
For me Logic on desktop for present power, Cubasis on iPad for creativity. Even though AU is still in its early days I'm sold by Steinberg's present commitment to it...Auria doesn't have it and it could be "coming soon" forever.
I stay with Cubasis... Way more user friendly and stable than Auria Pro IMO (and I don't really like the concept of numerous and expensive plugins IAP in Auria).
Plus... The upcoming Cubasis update seems really promising (even if the wait starts to get a little long lol).
Peace.
Yes I suppose Cubasis 2 could change things
Gadget I use anyway, but GarageBand lacks too much to even consider it imo.
Yep I'm on a 64gb. Wished I'd have held out for 128gb
Yep I've got Saturn and many of the others. Quite addictive, just wished you could resize them to use even more of the screen. They are the biggest shout out for a BIG BOY iPad Pro lol
Just flip a coin
Yep Auria is a problem for my hands too at times.
That would just be twice the mess for me to clean.
Yep that's why I really have to make a decision on what they have now and not what they may have. Coming Soon is like waiting for a lottery win at times lol
Do we know anything about the update as of yet? I know Lars plays it pretty close to his chest and rightly so, no point in promising things in case the plans change.
Haha. I can't say I did not consider it!
True. I have spent a lot of time lately doing the iPad housework. Amazing what rubbish bits of audio I had collected in just over a year!
I think I may have a temporary solution.
If I can delete some of the Lyra samples I have (I really don't need all the pianos lol) and reduce Auria down. Keep Cubasis for now until the V2 comes out and then rethink my choice at that time.
Thanks for everyone's input
Erm, since Auria got it's major v2 update eight months ago, and is actually updated more often than Cubasis (5 point releases since then) I don't think your assessment is quite fair.
Granted it doesn't have AU yet - but that's one feature out of many. And to be fair it's not been announced as "coming soon".
This...
... and this.
Yep agree they both have had plenty of features and updates
Now reduced Auria Pro down to 2.5gb from 4.8gb. So keeping both until Cubasis V2 comes out and will think again at the time.
I have both. To me, Auria is like Whole Foods. Beautiful selection, top quality, very expensive, easy to get lost in. And it's kind of a haul and you have to drive there. It's a commitment.
Cubasis is more like a neighborhood bodega. It has everything, but not necessarily the brands you want, although with all the hipsters moving in, it now stocks decent beer and fancy cheese.
(And to keep the insane analogy going, Modstep is like the food co-op. Fantastic produce, but you really have to make an effort to understand the layout of the place, and there's really no telling if what you want is going to be there. But you usually come out with something interesting.)
In the end, I usually default to Cubasis because it's easier. But when I'm ready to string everything together and finish the tracks, I'll be happy that Auria is available.
Great analogy. Made me laugh
I bought Auria (original version) on an iPad2 and then basically abandoned it because the device was too under powered for most of it. I later bought MultiTrackStudio, and got a bit of use out of it. Does not use too much CPU and has some great MIDI capabilities and other features.
But MTS has a particular style of workflow that emphasizes one-at-a-time recording and doesn't have the zoomed out multi-track view that you see on Auria, Cubasis, and even something like MTDAW. I kind of miss that when working with drum loops, editing, and sorting audio.
Now that I have a 12.9" Pro, it looks like it would cost $39.99 to upgrade to Auria Pro. Cubasis also intrigues me, and I probably like the aesthetics of that app best out of the choices. Maybe I'll just monitor and watch for a sale. I'm a little invested in a few Auria plug ins (the guitar amp one and maybe one or two others), but not enough so to commit me one way or the other.
