  • Acoustic sim sounds good to me. About the same as a piezo equipped guitar. I really dig the presets that mix it with a distorted amp, very cool. My thing with sims is that they sound great through my studio monitors, but no matter what I do I can't make them sound good through a guitar amp. Cab sim on or off, through fx return or right through the front, always sounds gross. I'm wondering if I should look into a keyboard amp or something.

Had the same thing happen with my friends guitar amp the other day. Although it is a smaller cheaper amp. I usually go through my stereo at home with keyboard. Sounds good that way.
I figured it was just the small amp.

  • Guitar amps (and their speakers) are designed for midrange response, they cut the highs off, they don't really sound like normal speakers and can't really be used as such. That's why they sound so good with distortion, all the fizz is filtered out.

The tape delays from the first Motherload are quite nice, I'm curious about these bucket brigade delays from this new one, I hope someone makes a demo and they suck so I don't have to buy them...

    Ha, same here :)

Hah! The first invitation to do a demo that I actually feel like I could satisfy the request. Alas, no time though.

Sorry to dissapoint - Taproom is simply FANTASTIC. Five taps that each have their own delay, panning, and level. The others are really good too, but this one completely nailed it for me.

  • I don't actually play TS enough to justify it... but I love the idea more than anything. So here goes $14.99 for the upgrade.

  • I love this way of sustaining the product, we don't have to keep switching apps & they maintain a revenue stream! :)

I still prefer JamUp's UI, but sound-wise I use end up using Tone Stack more.

Seems like it's gotta run out of steam at some point though. I mean, just how many Amp variations can you have before the novelty wears off. I'm betting myself that in a blind test I couldn't identify one from the other many times already. On the other hand, they nailed it with the new delays. Maybe they have some more tricks up their sleves. B)

I refitted some 1x12 cabinets with full range speakers and then use the cabinet sims in Tonestack live all the time. Sounds just fine to me that way. Still have enough cabinet thump, but the full range allows me to transfer what I hear in the studio to the stage.

There was mention on their forums about possibly including a looper in a future update

  • I relish the clever names, descriptions, and graphics.

  • I tried Tonestack again yesterday but the noise levels make it unusable for me. Switching presets can hurt my ears and generally just way to much background noise. I get no such problems with Jamup pro and have not been able to find out what is wrong with Tonestack. I thought of using a noise gate but could find none. Does Tonestack even have noisgates available? I picked it up along with Motherload 1 and 2 but could not find any.

Yep, it's called Noise X and it works well for me.

If you've got motherload 2 there is also Brandenburg Gate - you can find them in the Dynamics section of the FX browser

  • Has anyone managed to get an iRig |Blueboard working with TS3, they have added Bluetooth LE MIDI, and the updated firmware for Blueboard makes it Bluetooth LE MIDI compatible, but I cannot get TS3 to recognise the Blueboard.

  • Thanks guys I will give them a try and hopefully I can then use the app. It looks great but I need to get the noise levels under control.

to me it sounds like the input levels are off, maybe you dialed in something that works for JamUp but the default levels in ToneStack are too high?

ToneStack is capable of a great, clean signal in my experience.

  • @AndyPlankton hadn't found Brandenburg yet. Thx for tip.

So true. It's really kind of fun because I find something new every couple months and it feels like the gift that keeps giving. I'm not terribly attracted to the new pack, but I'll buy it to support the dev and the ridiculous value of the Yonac apps. That recent sale on Galileo and Magellan was crazy amount of goodness for a pittance.

Quoting myself here LOL....but I made it work, when switching on blueboard you have to hold down one of the A B or C buttons to select the MODE....
Press A gives normal proprietary mode
Press B gives MIDI mode 1 - Cannot get this mode to respond in TS, could this be program change mode ?
Press C gives MIDI mode 2 - This one works for CC messages.

Once you have started up blueboard in mode C, then next time you switch it on it will automatically start in mode c unless you hold down one of the other buttons to change it.

Hope this helps prevent anyone else scratching their head as much as I have this morning lol.

Yes, jam up works fine all around no matter what I do. Hopefully the gates will tame this and make it useable. Once everyone is awake later I am definitely going to be giving it a go.

I have been using TS and Galileo since release, and have managed to take advantage of the offers so the outlay hasn't been as high as it could have been.
As I play quite a bit of DUB style guitar the delays interest me a lot, and as a slide player, I'm going to be giving the acoustic module a run with a slide to see what the results are like. So expect some DUB style acoustic slide coming from me soon :)

Always worth keeping up to date with TS, as they add so much with each iteration, and the ability to upgrade for a relatively small cost during the intro offer is a really nice thing to do on their part. These FX also add some awesomeness to other apps, I particularly like running iMS-20 through the amps and delays :), Odyssei is next on the list for that treatment :)

Good thought on the iMS-20....will give that a go once the coffee kicks in....

  • Cool beans, The gates definitely made it useable for me . Not crazy about the presets that come with it but I will figure out how to save my own presets and see what I can come up with. I really might find some uses for it now.

A looper, or at least a looping function in the inStudio recorder would be handy. I gave the recorder a go just for kicks, but it's really of little use without some kind of trimming for the tracks. I ended up saving one track, then took it over to the tapedeck and set loop points to jam over, but that's way more work than it's worth.

Not that I need it with loopy, AUM, AudioShare, Auria Pro, Cubasis ... But I hate to see something so pretty just sitting there that I can think of no practical way to use.

Works for me. Not via the new Bluetooth feature but the blueboard companion app. I haven't tried it extensively but in program change mode it shifts presets without a problem.

    Cheers @supadom

I figured it out....when turning on the blueboard hold down the C button and it starts in MIDI LE Bluetooth mode for CC's which then works fine direct in TS for CC control, although I haven't tried my expression pedal in this setup yet.

If when turning on you hold down the A button it starts up in the normal proprietry mode which uses the blueboard app.

  • I'd love to hear some examples of the new delay effects. I'm a big fan of tonestack, but I think I have enough amp options as it is.

    Me too.

  • Amps and delays sound good! Delays are nice but not a "wow" for me.
    Sorry for my english guys!
