Amps and delays sound good! Delays are nice but not a "wow" for me.
    Sorry for my english guys!

thanks flo. if there was ONE to check out what would it be - i won't get the motherload 3 upgrade, but i might purchase a single delay maybe

yeah, I have Echo Pad, Filtatron, Tonestack motherload2 delays, FluxFx play, Turnado, Dfx already, so.....

  • MY 8 string NS Stick sounds kinda acoustic with those new pedals. Not fully but really usable and will layer well. I normally hate acoustic sims but this is best I've tried so far.

I think the taproom fx is £7.99 on it's own...motherload 2-3 upgrade is only £10.99, would be worth the extra £3 :)

£40 upgrade for me from ML1. Taproom sounds interesting, need to see a demo though.

    I know, and that's a bummer for sure :(

  • The thing that bugs me about ToneStack, and I should have thought about this before updating.....is that it downloads the new stuff even if you haven't bought it, so I've probably lost some disk space.

I think a lot of apps work this way with IAP, except maybe the sample based ones....the programming is in there and unlocked by the IAP.

The size of the app before update on my iphone is 174MB
The size on my ipad after the update is 212MB
And yeah, I don't plan on buying the motherload3,.......so maybe I shouldn't have updated.

    Yeah, annoying though.

Bummer, wish I hadn't updated now.

  • I really need the space and so this may be one of the next apps to go.

  • I bought the V3 upgrade, initial thoughts:

The new delays are the most interesting thing in the new version for me, in particular the 'Duplicator' which gives a really good chorus sound.

The acoustic amp sim / pedals - not sure...

The new amps / pedals - need to spend more time with.

  • Are you guys kidding? A difference of 36MB let's you complain? You must be on 16GB devices.

  • I feel for those enduring the 'what to delete' dance. Having 128 gigs to play with has elevated the whole experience of using my iPad as a workhorse creative device. I still end up deleting things here and there when my free space dips below 30 gigs, but I can't remember the last painful decision. :)

  • Did anyone get the acoustic pack and would you mind making a quick demo ? I was playing with jamup pro last night using the acoustic sim to make upright bass sounds, which works pretty well, and I want to see how this might compare quality wise. If not, then I'm just buying it I guess!

  • Well, I bought the acoustic bundle- is it supposed to sound like white noise with a high pass filter on it? Either is not working correctly at the moment or im doing something really wrong. I don't think it's a level thing, every other patch I've made is working correctly.

I did take the tip about fiddlicator and some cabinet IR's. Now THAT sounds great, even Just using the free IR files I found on the net.

I don't know if this could be your problem, but one mistake I made at first was in combining the Acoustic Sim with the Acoustic Amp. With default settings, that is doubling the acoustic simulation on itself. You need to use one or the other, or flip off the "sim" switch on the acoustic amp.

Are you trying this on Guitar or Bass? I haven't tried on Bass, but can well imagine it might not work.

  • Yes, be sure you're using the Acoustic Sim pedal, not the Acoustic Amp. Also, if you have the option, start with a single-coil pickup in the neck position.

I'd be willing to bet bass would work just fine, but I don't own one, so what do I know?

  • The acoustic sim is just a wall of noise, the acoustic amp is also a wall of noise, used separately or together. I use the acoustic sim on jamup to get an upright vibe to the electric bass sound and it works fine, so it's not the bass that's the problem. I have gigs all weekend, but if I have time after soundcheck tonight I'll try to record a clip so you hear what I mean.

  • I did download the upgrade, but (as per usual) have only had time to use it very briefly. I'm a fan of Vox sounds generally (two of my "real" amps are an AC10C1 and Pathfinder 15), so the inclusion of some Vox-based models got my attention.

It's probably user error on my part, but so many of the pedals in ToneStack seem to just have a massive bass drop associated with them. While that's a purposeful feature of some gain pedals (Tubescreamers, for example, drop the low end and emphasize mids while compressing and rounding out the high frequencies), it's also pretty bloody undesirable for a lot of distorted/overdriven rhythm sounds. I need to explore this more, and as always, not be afraid to experiment with non-conventional settings, or doing something like adding an EQ pedal into the mix if that might address my one primary gripe.

It is a pretty impressive (if a bit pricey) overall lineup if you have the full Motherload package on all 3 versions now.

I've recently reactivated Tonestack ML 2.3 on an iPad with more space.
First of all because I trust in @mrufino1's sound experience - I know some of his recordings and like his bass... B)
According to my own taste the app is crap compared to JamUp/Bias, but with some effort it can in fact be tweaked to usable amp sounds - but JamUp usually fits out of the box with a much more pleasing sound.
The main difference between our applications is the output:
he's using live speakers on stage, I'm arranging on the PC with very linear AKG K501 cans.

The effects in TS 2.x aren't my cup of tea, the SpaceEcho look-alike is an offence - and that spring thing in it... no way.
Sorry, I don't believe in a magical change just for one further delay.
But as mentioned above: the app may be quite capable to drive real stage gear.

  • It does sound good live, I will say that. I like the sound of most of the effects too, but the acoustic pack is nothing but hiss, I'm not sure why. I can't get the envelope filters in bias fx to do much but in tonestack they're quite cool.

OK, I tried it with my bass just now and I'm pretty well convinced the problem is you're using both the acoustic sim pedal and the acoustic amp pedal with the sim switch on together.

    • Sim pedal + acoustic amp with sim switch on = hiss
    • Sim pedal + acoustic amp with sim switch off = no hiss
    • Sim pedal by itself = no hiss
    • Acoustic amp by itself with sim switch on = no hiss
    • Acoustic amp by itself with sim switch off = no hiss (and no acoustic sim)
  • Just messed w ith it a bit tonight before ending my jam session with Bias FX.

Mostly just tweaked the presets. The acoustic Sim "stuff" seems to try too hard to ........ Sim....U...late....
But, I actually like that. I think it sounds pretty damn good.

All of the distortion pedals they added are quite good. About 100% improvement in the sound of them compared to all of the other ones available in the app. Quite a bit more realistic sounding. Got some really really good rock and metal tones out of em. Not anything really Thrash worthy, but..........I am impressed with the pedals for all the other styles I play.

    Good stuff so far............................ :)

For me its all hiss whether it's the sim alone, the amp alone, things together, etc. I'm not sure why. My iPad has been funny lately, I think 10.1 has made it very slow for some reason. I think a restore and fresh install of apps is in order as soon as I get a chance.

    Aww, that's too bad. :/
Got another device you could try it on, like a phone, to narrow it down to device vs other things?
