Namm 2017 predictions

Maybe a little off topic, but anybody got any predictions for namm to throw into the ring?

Here's a few of mine:

  • More wireless midi controllers (yay!)
  • Standalone groovebox from someone in left field
  • Something new from Teenage engineering (duh)
  • More desktop stuff we wish were coming to ipad

p.s.
Just what is the OP-Z?
Well, I believe it's basically a giant pocket operator/sampler. Could combine all pocket operator sounds/functions into one device with more effects and flexible sequencing.

  • Sounds about right. More analog polys are almost certain. Including of the 'affordable' DCO variety. A new Roland groovebox seems probable. Dedicated analog drum machine from Korg? Something mid-priced from Modal? Circuit followup Novation?

I'm only anxious for the stand alone MPC.

  • An anal harmonica.

Sorry, I meant a harmonic analyzer.

I'd like to see a bluetooth MIDI foot controller like the blueboard with more switches. Why isn't there anything with more than 4 switches?

  • How about more MPE hardware?

    Which key did you "pick"?

Nice one. Would be a nice boost to the KMI line to go BTLE.

  • Would love to see 20-40% increase in USB as default power source. When dealing with pedals and small devices, etc, I still find myself cursing while looking for power supplies. Plus, the USB hub as power distribution center is ready for prime time.

  • Wishing... Volca "pro" line. Same line up, better sequencers and remote sequence transpose.

Also wishing, Volca mixer. 1/8 inputs, built in Kaoss pad with effects sends, built in clock distribution.

  • I think we'll see some new guitars.

:) Funny, been loosely following NAMN announcements for years (ok, decades!) via various gear nerd magazines and more recently sites. I know there's tons-o-guitar stuff but only anecdotally; I never see any of that stuff via the channels to which I pay attention Most of these sources have me thinking it's always been a 100% a synth & some effects show. :)

    USB-C/Thunderbolt 3

Definitely. MOTU and RME are my guesses for the first ones.

  • I would like to see a quality controller keyboard that has in built maps for controlling iPad apps. I would also like it to have multiple USB midi outs for controlling multiple iPads each on their own mappings to the keyboard with an individual main volume slider for each.

Then a lot of knobs and sliders that have a position marker and pass through selection. With quick change buttons between each USB out and multiple midi channels to select from on the fly. Each with its own app mapping.

Also needs a separate set of knobs and sliders that can be programmed to send on multiple channels and USB outs at the same time.

Needs a set of live set up memories.

Needs velocity and aftertouch keys. Assignable modulation wheels, strips and XY pads.

A built in multi channel audio interface would be nice and a multi looper and sampler would be the cream on top.

    I bet money I won't see this!

I tried one of those but just kept playing bum notes

I backed this and I'm still waiting but maybe you find it useful.

If @blocsxnovation makes Blocs Wave compatible with launch series (as I wrote them at mail) it will be near.

    Midiflow

    Novation remote like launch edition?

    Standalone?
    Looper: GTL or Loopy MP.
Multi channel audio: AudioHub + AUM or AB3.
Sampler: Launchpad App could be improved a bit in this direction but as is still makes a good job with blocs wave/AudioShare.

    I bet money I won't see this!

Who knows... it's so usual find products who nobody ask for as products which glue allinone missing some point from its modular counterpart.

I think we are near of these new kind of DAW (the most similar in desktop realm is stagecraft software) and maybe even the sample could be DVS enabled! Okno, we won't see nothing like this soon so take a look at these apps and maybe find your own workflow ;)

  • I'd like a decent USB MIDI keyboard/controller, along the lines of last years Korg Nanokey Studio, that doesn't look like it came out of a Christmas cracker, and isn't going to be obsolete in 12 months time.

In fact anything that isn't going to be obsolete in 12 months time would be great.

  • I think there will be more of the 'micro' modular synths that are appearing, maybe someone will make a 'micro' mixer for them as well.
    More MPE controllers and devices.
    A wavetable volca.
More gadgets and gizmos that seem more novelty than useful, but that will lead to more useful devices later

  • Don't know about gadgets and gizmos but I'm pretty sure we'll finally see BeatHawk 2

  • Propellerhead have a booth. Perhaps we'll get a glimpse of iReason?

  • edited January 2017
  • Anything related to iOS is of great interesting to me!

Maybe IK-Multimedia will finally release a 'do it all' Audio & Midi-Interface for iOS and well, a new 'improved' iRig Field Mic that works with iPhone/iPad cases(I can't even attach the iRig Mic Field to an iPad Air 2 or iPhone 5 with a case on!).

Most of all I'd love to see big players (Korg, Roland, Yamaha, Novation, Clavia etc.) re-cycle their DSP-Code and release iOS apps with full support for iOS technologies (IAA/AUv3 etc.).

So far I've been able to control my app-o-holism and not bought a single app yet :D

Nah, during 2017... But then again it's only 3rd of January :D

  • Pretty sure we'll see new standalone MPC units from Akai this year.

    It's all I want.

  • I'm pretty sure we will see some new synths that never make prediction for many years to come if ever!

  • edited January 2017

My bet is the day Propellerheads drops Ireason... Gadget will automatically update with Audio Tracks recording.

In the meantime, you all can go "finger your surfaces".

Partnership between Novation and iConnect, perhaps?
