Hopefully Korg tweaked some stuff under the hood for 3.0.
It's inexplicable CPU/battery hungry. More than any other app I use.
My Pro 9.7 gets hot and uses twice the average amount of battery while just playing one gadget (not ODYSSEi).

True, even my iPhone 7 becomes a hot potatoe with Gadget.

  • Odd behavior. Is it just the newer devices then? My Air1 does not heat up when running with or without my controllers hooked up.

Yeah, like @SrKunp says, on my iPhone SE too.
I replied to someone with the same issue on Korg's forums in November.
    Maybe a 32 vs 64bit thing..?

Just played some standalone Module/ODYSSEi/iWavestation without any significant heat or battery usage.

yeah , now that you mention it... I have ipad 4 and no issues with getting hot - ever really , but my iphone 6s gets quite hot after just 5-10 minutes use of audio apps.

  • My Air 2 always heats up when I use Gadget.

  • 64 vs 32 does indeed seem to be the issue then?

Not sure, your Air1 is 64bit too and you wrote not experiencing the heat up.

When playing on a gadget my Pro uses almost 20% per hour.
Average with other apps (audio and non audio) is 10% per hour. Screen brightness around 30-40%.

it's getting a little warmer on my air 2 yes,but not very much. And it's definitely quite friendly to my battery. And usually i'm using a lot of gadgets and fx per song.Does ios 10 make a difference maybe? (still on 9.3.5)

  • No, I am on 10.2.

Don't think so, I remember noticing it was getting warm before - on my old iPad 2 as well.

Not a big issue for me as I'm not a big Gadget user, and I've noticed the iPad getting even hotter when Monzo Jnr nabs it for his Minecraft sessions.

  • It would seem to be more within gadget itself then and perhaps not so much the device.

  • My Pro 9.7 is on 10.2.
So yours stay cool also when playing live on a gadget?

If I push the number of gadgets then open a gadget and then the preset browser , audio glitching is worse, once close the presets a little better, then close the gadget it goes away again.....unless I push it further.....so it is definitely processing more when a gadget is open, perhaps a UI thing as the graphics are more detailed ?
It doesn't seem to matter which gadget.

Out of curiosity, for those that have an iPad and a Mac/laptop do you intend to buy the Mac version of Gadget? Personally, I think its great that Gadget is going to Mac but I do not see the sense of "buying> @SrKunp said:

Agreed!! This is the only problem I have with Gadget. It is definitely more power hungry than any other app I use. I had an iPad 4, Air 2 and now Pro 12.9". The battery drains fast on all of them.

  • My iPhone 7 gets pretty hot when I have an instance of module running in Gadget. I keep getting worried and give the phone a chance to cool down every 10 - 15 minutes. Is there any reason for concern? Can one "brick" their phone through overheating? I'm new to iOS music production and I've never used any other app so resource intensive.

    Null

  • I won't buy it on the Mac. I have no need for it. There are so many vst s on the Mac...

  • edited January 2017

Same. I think it's cool that they are making one for Mac, but if I'm going to use my laptop I'm fine with Live and something like Omnisphere. Depends on the price too I guess.

Yeah could be - strain on the graphics card might be heating things up - certainly the case with some older MacBook Pros. I had to send one back as it doubled up as a three bar electric fire, every time I booted up Logic.

It makes sense as if it is getting hot it will start thermal throttling on the CPU which could explain the audio glitching.

I wonder if it uses Metal like Model 15 does....it could be an avenue they can take to improve it.

  • i figure without basis that Recife provides something like readymade footwork and trap-style drums, to London's dancefloor and Bilbao's cratedigger samples... it would make sense given the ability to record vocals. i'm all for another drum gadget! even if probably not a sampler!

I think my sole reason would be to use the AUs in Logic. I like the whole idea behind Gadget but IMO the synths outpace the sequencer.

  • Overheating will eventually damage your battery. It happened to my iPad while in the case the screen got turned on somehow and it overheated. When I finally got to it it was over wouldn't even turn on. Brick!

Applestore was nice and gave me a brand new one for $99 bucks.

    Lesson learned.
