  • I like what I hear. Chords, scales... My kind of alley :)

  • Also, is the UI still dark? I loved that dark UI
If I want to chop a beat do I still need to save it first?

no you dont have to save first to chop samples anymore and it gives you the option to do so when saving progress. so you can do it on the fly. the editor is really slick. and the whole UI is BLACK and WHITE looks really professional and if im not mistaken i could be i think you can change the color of each bank. I can't remember if the pad colors change as well though.

  • Oh man the wait is killing me. It's been so long...

  • Have you tested an iPhone version yet? If so, is the play button always visible?

Does the sequencer still use NS style handles for editing notes?

Does it have a built-in synth?

definitely, beat maker 2 is still my go to only because audio bus wasn't supported yet in the beta because it wasn't an official app release, but it definitely will be worth it.

  • does it do clip launching?

I presume it's possible to add 'slices' in realtime as the sample plays too. Like in one of the MPC Love videos someone posted here earlier? (It's nice to be able to 'play' the new slice-points).

Hope Intua doesn't mind sharing your findings here with us all :D

yeah i hope so lol. but im sure you can. it even gives you a little small 16 pad in the corner while you are editing slices so that you can test and make sure everything is right. also to load samples you can drag and drop them in now.

Hehe, and I hope they've listened and made the on-screen pads and keyboards 'velocity-sensitive' ie. different velocity depending on where you hit the pad or keys for added expression when using the touch-screen...

I also hope import/export is handled using standard iOS Features (ie. iCloudDrive/DocumentPicker and 'Open In...').

And well, I hope it gets released soon too :D

@jankobob This is awesome news! I've been waiting for this update a long time, like everyone else. However, I'm also "that one guy" who's rather skeptical about dropping $29.99 before knowing what I may be getting into. So, I have a few questions I hope you can answer.

    1. Can the sampler play Soundfonts(.sf2)? Even better, can it load a multitimbral soundfont where I can select the voice I want to use from it? (Auria's Lyra currently lacks the proper function to allow voice selection within a multitimbral soundfont.)
    2. Any audio stretching/warping functions ala AuriaPro?
    3. Any ability to automate the BPM?
    4. Any built-in synths besides the sampler?
    5. How many effects per track?
    6. Any ability to send the outputs of tracks to a buss?
    7. Have their stock effects been updated to keep up with the times? I haven't used BM2 in quite some time, but I don't recall a proper parametric EQ being an option.
    8. Can we get audio buffer sizes up to 4096 if using audio and soundfonts only?
    9. Is MIDI Out implemented so I can drive other apps and feed the audio back into BM3 with Audiobus?
    10. Any advanced grid snapping settings (such as triplets?)
    11. Is Audioshare intigrated within BM3's architecture, or is it just a disappointing audiocopy/audiopaste functionality?

    Thanks for your time mate.

  • is it linear or non-linear?
    pattern play, record, modulate?
is the mixer global for the whole session or are you able to have a separate mixer for each pattern?

  • what happens to my bm2 in app purchases, can i still use them on bm3

  • Intua needs to hire this dude (Andrew Huang) to do the Beatmaker 3 promo video :D

    That'd go well with Diego Stocco's Improv on a Plate :-}

Hope they don't change too much with BM3's sampler. They still have the most comprehensive keyboard style sampler on iOS.

  • I will be amazed if BM3 ends up replacing Gadget as my primary iOS tool.

The window is closing, Intua! Gadget's sampler comes out this week! Hurry!

..it does?!!? thought it was just an announcement Friday with more details and info. Wasn't expecting new Gadgets/updates for another month myself..

What what what ? Where does this info comes from... Gadget having a real sampler Gadget ? Different from Bilbao ? Coming out this week ? ... This would be awesome...

This would even be a real blessing now that I'm scared that BM3 will not fullfill my expectation (particularly because it seems that you need iFunBox to import/export samples in it and I was mostly waiting for a BM2 with better import/export feature on my side lol).

Where did you get that info man ? Was it only a joke ?

We don't know anything yet! :D
My guess is that it will support at least 'Open In...' and 'iCloud Drive/iOS Document Picker' for import & export.
And accept files sent to it using 'Open In...' from other apps...
(Wish Gadget could do that so we could skip AudioCrappy).

Thanks for the clarification Samu... I misunderstood then, it seems to me that when asked about import/export of samples, the beta tester guy said that he had to use iFunBox...

PS : did you hear about this new sampler Gadget man ? do you know anything ? It would be so awesome to have an improved version of Bilbao that I don't even allow myself to dream about it... Lol

No more info than anyone else.

I do however suspect that the new 'drum gadget' will allow us to trigger other Gadgets in addition to including it's own 'stuff' including trigger/play user samples and maybe even have drum-synthesis similar to iElectribe.

On Thrusday we'll hopefully know more...
(We do have Beathawk 2 to look forward to as well).

  • Honestly I hope this new gadget doesn't have that mini UI to edit samples & stuff.
I'm hoping (as I hoped for BeatHawk2) that you can tap that small waveform and edit start/end points in a bigger fashion, like iMaschine 2 which got that right.

  • Also, I've asked Intua on Facebook Messenger AGAIN to give us at least a hint, a screenshot or smth.
Mathieu said they'll have an announcement pretty soon (matter of days).

    Hallelujah!

If there's one thing I hate about our current times is HYPE. I hate it!
Launch a product and allow me to pour in my cash. BOOM - SURPRISE! :))
Apple seems to know something about this business model, maybe that's why they have freaking billions.

  • @SuboiduaI I did ask intua if sound packs were compatible, but hey said BM3 is significantly different although the samples could of course be reused.

I hear that! I think the hype can, be a bad thing for them sometimes. There have been a lot of apps that were hyped weeks ahead of time; Had it been released that day I would have instantly purchased it. But since they didn't release it that day, I was able to research and think about and second guess the purchase and ultimately decide no. I hope future app releases will have announcement and release the same day.
With that said, I love that we can buy a synth or Daw or effect app, for a fraction of what something similar would be used for elsewhere. So I won't complain too much. ;) good times we are living in.

  • What is the install size? space on my iPad is limited and I have requested to Intua about being able to delete the factory sounds in BM2 but they said its not right now. Not sure if they will though.
