My pleasure! Now the hardest part comes: how to let people know it exists!
Lol
Hi.
So just trying out new update now.
Notes from Lightblock now coming through so thanks for that.
Is it possible to record multi-channel MPE midi in a midi-instrument track? (Eg with the Roli Noise app or another MPE app loaded as an AU). Right now it still just seems to be recording everything on channel 1.
Stupid request probably, but is there anyway the box at the bottom of the piano roll that shows the current note could be moved to the top? At the moment it always seems to be obscured by my fingers - maybe because I’m left handed.
I understand the issue, but I'm afraid not.
Woah. This has potential. For me it is all about audio editing and there has yet to be a really strong contender on iOS. Questions etc...
1.) Could it be possible to boost clip volume above 0.0db?
2.) Is it just me or is cross fade buggy right now resulting in splits? Would realtime crossfading happen at some point? Feels like ‘crossfade mode’ should just be a toggle.
3.) Seperate eq/pan/pitch per clip would be great
4.) more visual feedback on waveform, ie the visual scales up and down with volume, including fades
Ok, don’t worry. Found the ‘keep channel information’ option on the midi input for instrument channels.
However, with this checked it seems like although multi-channel midi is then getting recorded into midi instrument tracks (you can hear its working while recording and you can see the multi-channel data in the midi clip afterwards), when you play the track back it doesnt sound like it’s actually sending multi-channel midi (MPE) to the AU and you can hear the cc74 data conflicting between different notes. This is with Roli Noise Melody loaded as an AU and playing the Lightblock into AEM.
So basically it works while recording/playing the Lightblock live and sounds wonderful - but sounds single channel when playing the recorded midi back into the Noise AU.
Try it... Lightblock > AEM > Roli Noise App
(I think it might also be recording velocity too low. But difficult to tell. Certainly seems a lot quieter when playing back compared to when recording/performing). Edit: And the velocity values in the recorded midi seem much lower than they should be.
While moving notes, the current note position is also highlighted on the piano keyboard on the left - so you have at least two areas where the note is shown, and it's hard to cover both even if you're left-handed
@dwrae what about full screen AU is it possible as yet.
For effects, AU is full screen. For instruments, you need to see the keyboard and the AU can be scrolled (if the developer implemented it right IMHO).
No, you could normalize the clip or put the track's volume to +6dB and lower the level of the other clips.
If you have a reproducable sequence, please send an email to info AT audio-evolution.com
I'm afraid not anytime soon.
@dwrae Aswering questions and feature requests like a champ. Left 5 star review. Your app is great too 😊
One thing I can’t figure out:
I create a group and insert an au effect in one of the inserts and it can be automated by hitting record and moving a knob, but where does that automation ‘go’? I would expect a group to have a track but it doesn’t.
@dwrae
I just bought the app.. it has a lot of features.. Very nice..
But the UI/UX is kind of strange...I’ve only used the app shortly but these things caught my attention:
the tracks don’t have a fixed track nr, (track 1, track 2..) just a name. When you import a file that filename becomes the track name. So when importing stems via AudioShare every track in the mixer is displayed as ‘gadget-stem-trac..’ when you import the files ‘gadget-stem-track-001.wav’, ‘gadget-stem-track-002.wav’ etc.
you can scroll the tracks in the mixer but they don’t really scroll. So when ‘scrolling’ the mixertracks stay in place but the fader positions and the track name changes (but you wont notice that when all tracknames are ‘gadget-stem-tr..’
That looks kinda confusing. Why not change the tracks with 8 a time..(or, just let the tracks scroll for real).
the ‘scroll’ mode is used for scrolling the view .. but when you long press a clip in that mode you get a dozen edit options... I feel those options belong in ‘edit’ mode..
when using input boxes (like tempo input) iOS text options appear.. You can input text in the song tempo number field (??) and then a ‘select all’ and ‘lookup on the web’ appears
When you grab a clip’s border to change it’s length it’s possible move the end past the start position of that clip.. resulting in a 0,5px line doing nothing and that’s hard to see....
‘connect to next clip’ just moves the clip.. whats the point of that? Can’t I stitch them together making it 1 clip?
the grid completely dissapears when zooming out..
Sorry I don’t want to sound negative, I just wanted to give feedback on the app.. I do realize it’s sold for a low price...
You’re Dutch right? Kan ik je een mailtje sturen met suggesties voor de app om hem beter te maken?
Found two more bugs with this update (not sure if they were in the last update). This is testing with both a ‘midi track’ and an ‘instrument midi track’ (I’m still not really sure why there needs to be two different types of midi track TBH)...
You record midi in once at the very start of your song. Remove the midi clip. Then record again and you get what appears to be a blank midi clip. When you go into it you see just a single grey note that begins way before the 00.00 position at the start of the song. But it doesn’t play. No other notes have been recorded. This doesn’t happen always, just about 50% of the time.
I’m playing about 8 bars and recording in but then it makes a midi clip that’s only about 4 bar long. Where’s the rest of my performance? It hasn’t recorded it... This is the same every time. The last 4 bars or so of my playing don’t get recorded.
Both these issues are with the Lightblock playing MPE midi into the ‘midi track’.
@dwrae
I made a video showing:
Here’s what the note and cc data looks like (looks correct but you can hear it’s not playing back like it sounded when recorded).
Late to the party on this app but pulled the trigger this weekend...
I basicly have two music rigs. My mobile iOS focused rig and my at home studio using a presonus ar12 and synths, drum machines.
Many of my synths pair beautifully with iOS but recording them Into a mobile daw on iPhone has not been easy to record multiple instances at once each in their own lane, just as a master recording.
I successfully paired the usb mixer (ar12) to my iPhone and can now easily record ALL my hardware synths at the same time each recording separately AND use a few iOS synths with a midi controller and iOS fx at the same time.
Than I can edit and tweak on the go and use all the fantastic apps to mangle or master or layer with iOS apps after the song is mostly done to give it that extra oomph.
This app is amazing!
Have a great weekend friends
The USB Audio IAP only applies to the Android Devices which sells through Google Play.
Apple's Audio features allow for latency without this custom I/O Driver code. The headache for this developer is bolting on the AUv3/IAA Audio/MIDI features which Android does not have. Then getting the small army of AU/IAA Apps stable for all users.
AEMS is playing catch up in this area with the Big Dogs.
Are you enjoying the ToneBooster FX? I think they are great and priced for $2 each. Amazing value for the whole package... $7 DAW with maybe $10 to cover the FX IAP's (EQ, Reverb, Compression, Tape Saturation, etc).
I haven’t purchased any of the tone booster fx just yet only because I have ALOT of au fx on standby.
I plan on purchasing some to support the developers though
I do have one question though..
I am able to get all the outputs of my usb mixer recording, but now I want to use au fx on different channels and am having a difficult time getting them working.
Any assistance would be super helpful
Thankyou for the great response earlier mcdtracy
How far along have you gotten - to step 1, 2 or 3?
1. Assign an AU FX to an audio track (being fed audio via USB)
2. Open the chosen AU FX and tweak the settings
3. Record Audio and hear the FX on the recording
4. Repeat process for multiple inputs
What AU FX Apps are you using? What is your USB Audio Device?
True, there are no lanes for busses.
On the contrary, long-pressing a clip in Edit mode would have a high chance of accidentally moving it. That's why it is in Scroll mode where you cannot modify things.
That would be just standard iOS behaviour, we don't make the input boxes.
No, it's not really connect, but it places one clip next to another with frame-perfect accuracy.
That's because you would see too many lines otherwise.
Dat kan altijd!
If you made that an option, seeing as you’ve stored the automation data, would that make it possible to edit it?
There was a PRO IAP for people running 1.x since the app was free then. So you are all set.
Does that mean there’s no way to edit the automation on them once it’s done? Is this the same for the master track inserts as there’s no master lane either?
If you want to put an effect on a specific output, you would need to add the AU on the bus you created and assigned the output to. So if you created a bus and assigned it to output 5-6 and want to have an effect on there, then you would need to add the insert effect to this bus.
Yes, the 'read automation' button was just introduced very recently. Before that, it was not possible to add automation to busses. The fact that you can do it now with read automation is a kind of accidental bonus (that's from my point of view, your view is that you cannot do it of course).
I see
Sorry to moan, the app is just so great I’m struggling to find problems, but this is definitely something that would cause me issues.
It's not an easy fix though. Of course I can just show a lane for the busses, but that looks odd since the app would start with a track already visible (the master track) and 99% of the people wouldn't understand.
