  • Whilst waiting for freezing functionality I’ve been playing around and had a couple of questions.

Is there a way to loop a section? I know you can generate repeats of a clip but if you want to change it you have to edit all of the repeats separately. In flsm you can drag a clip for as many loops as you want, and if you change the first version it changes all the loops. Caustic does this with patterns which is very different but also works well. Not a huge issue but wanted to check I’m not missing anything.

Also, and this is really picky, it’d be good to be able to select a range then render to audio from a long press whilst still in range mode. I notice you can ‘save range to file(s)’ from the long press. Is this the same thing? I can’t get it to work either.

    Hope this is helpful.

@dwrae : When I spilt an audio sample and try to put it back together again I get a prompt that says “Yiur samples are overlapping- should you like to cross-fade?”..
Sonif I press crissfsde there’s a glitch in the audio. . Why is that ?

It seems to just generate a third ‘crossfade’ clip from the two clips. In my mind I prefer a realtime crossfade so that you can edit it after the fact. It being a destructive operation is very cumbersome. Cubasis and most other timeline audio editors simply lets you overlap audio then you can adjust the faders yourself.

  • I’ve lost my Audio Evolution app. I was reloading a few apps due to shifting some apps about.

When it came to reloading Audio Evolution, it no longer shows in my iPad apps and shows requesting payment of £6.99 for the app again. I’d already bought many of the IAPs too!

Are you sure you're using the same iCloud account as when you purchased it? Try rebooting. I remember this helping someone in the past.

  • Sorted thanks peeps :) . Had to download and it doesn’t charge me again

@dwrae hi and thanks for the great updates - are you the Toneboosters developer too.
I ask because would be great to have these plugins available as AU/Universal on iOS
If not the developer maybe you can get a business partnership between you and Toneboosters - is this possible?

Sorry for the late reply. I usually get an email when there is a forum post here, but not this time. No, Toneboosters is another company where we have a business partnership with. Please ask them directly.

  • Audio Evolution Mobile Studio 2.0.5 for iOS released:

    • Audio and instrument tracks can now be ‘frozen’ to reduce CPU usage. The rendered audio track will be inserted after the frozen track. The frozen track will have its instrument and effects unloaded and cannot be changed until it is unfrozen again.
    • MIDI events from AU instruments like iFretless are now recorded on iOS11 and higher.
    • The CPU usage meter now decreases slowly like a volume meter giving a more meaningful indication
    • Added a setting ‘Stop on CPU overload’ which stops playback after a short while of constant CPU overload. Defaults to true.
    • The data source for the internal mic can now be selected (depending on the device this could be front, bottom, back)
    • AUv3 instruments that overload now stop processing until the next playback.
    • Files with a format other than WAV, AIFF and FLAC are now converted to WAV upon import
    • The ‘Keep’ option in the MIDI input dialog was not saved in the project. Solved.
    • Exporting stems or performing mix-down can now be canceled.
    • Solved a crash when trying to play while rendering stems was in process.
    • The progress bar indicator when exporting stems or performing mix-down was incorrect. Solved.
    • Exporting stems with automation on the track(s) could result in the wrong automation being used. Solved.

Many thanks for another fantastic update @dwrae , but there seems to be an issue with all AUv3s in this latest version.

I just updated about 10 mins ago, and every time I try to load an AUv3 I get 100% cpu spikes and glitched audio. I've tried about 6 different synths so far, and also a few full reboots. Same issue every time.

    I'm using a 10.5” iPad Pro with iOS 12.1

Can anyone else confirm this bug?

  • Yay!! 😎👍🏼

It's probably not a bug in the sense that CPU is spiking. You can turn off the CPU usage check in the app's settings.

I just tried with both an AUv3 effect and an AUv3 instrument (Enkl) on an iPad PRO. The CPU is not moving much here.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately there's definitely something wrong.

Watch the cpu meter in this video (bottom right). You hear some of the glitched audio for Phasemaker, but Poison 202 also made some horrible noises that didn't record on the video
This is a new blank project with 1 track/1 AUv3

That happens on a render timeout, after which the app stops rendering the AU. What is your buffer size set to?

Just tried here with Phasemaker on an iPad PRO. Gives about 10% CPU usage, sample rate 44100Hz, buffer size 512 frames.

    Problem solved!

Somehow my buffer rate got changed to 32 after updating(!!). Changed it back to 512 and all is good again.

Thanks for the help, and sorry for the false alarm!!

Oephh.. good to hear that I will have sleep tonight! Releasing on iOS is really scary though. There will be a day when I DO mess up and then it can take 3 full days until Apple would release an update. On Android I could have an update live in 30 minutes (after I found and fixed something of course).

  • Hahaha, I'm very sorry.

I'm looking forward to testing all these awesome new features.

  • So, you can vote again for next feature:

    • Start-up dialog with recent projects etc. that was talked about before
    • MIDI sync

  • Sync would be nice

If AEM is going to be able to follow external MIDI clock that would be awesome!!!
Especially because most DAWs don't, that would make AEM something even more unique.

  • Sync please!!

  • BTW, @dwrae Did you ever find the solution for the Count-in bug that moves/doesn't play the first part of a recorded sequence? This is a pretty important bug for me to get fixed. I'm willing to work with you off-line to try to get this one fixed. It's really, really essential to me.

  • Midi sync, please!

  • Really solid improvements for me on a quick test project.

AudioLayer as an AU works well (tho' I hate having to redeclare my midi controller for every new midi instrument... is there a way to set it and forget it?)

The Frozen tracks work well so I should be able to scale large (multitrack) projects with good sounds using larger sampled instruments.

iSymphonic worked with some strings to be added

Added some Stereo Width and Toneboosters Reverb (which is a really nice IAP and inexpensive)

And the mixdown worked without issues and I uploaded to AudioShare and up into SoundCloud. I like where this is going for my intended workflow.

Alright, that was clear. So, can you guys who voted for MIDI sync please tell me a bit about your 'use case'? Where would you use MIDI sync for in your set-up? Please note that I'll probably only be able to let AEM be the master.

  • @ksound said:
    Midi sync, please!

Yep. Sync please. But if you’re going to sync, why not Link sync??

If it's more of the same, then I'll certainly look into that.

Amazing. Thanks. Would be really useful.

(And yes, I know that if you change tempo then the rendered audio will go out of time. But it’s exactly the same with Gadget and the solution is... just don’t change tempo once your song involves rendered audio).
