Hi, and thanks for the info. Can I ask whether the excellent synth from the Android version is coming to ios?

Well, I hope to release a big new version this week including the new effects section of the Android v5 version (effects grid with parallel effect paths, ToneBoosters v4 effects, side chain, parameter LFO's, etc.), MIDI clock sync, triplets in the drum pattern editor and some other minor things.

The synth is already 'compiled' into this version, there is just no way to select it yet. The reason is that there are already so many changes in this version that, although it has been tested, the more changes, the more chances on bugs you run into that we may have missed. The synth is basically an optimised version of 'Synth One' that you can download for free from the App Store and select it as AUv3 instrument. It will of course have a different UI (as you can see it in the Android version). So, when things go smooth, I will probably release it a week or so after the 'effects' release, together with Vocal Tune PRO.

Then somewhere end December/early January, the new optional user interface behavior for the main timeline screen will come.

    All very good news. Thanks!

Forgot one: tempo/time signature change will also be in one of these releases!

  • @dwrae Theres so much to unpack in this thread. How does AEM stand up against CB3? Any specific functionality CB3 doesn’t have that AEM has? Vice versa?

I am not sure if it's my place to comment on that, but here goes.. There are many things that AEM can do that CB3 can't and I'm sure there must be things the other way around. AEM also costs only a fraction of CB3. Some things are subtle, like the many options in the track and clip pop-up menu that you can perform (like split a track into two mono tracks, etc.) and there are some bigger things like the parallel effects grid, parameter LFO's, tempo change, the ability to add your own soundfont instruments etc. which I don't think are in CB3. I am not sure if CB3 can do side chain.

AEM cannot perform certain actions while playing that CB3 can, but is likely more battery friendly since AEM does not do anything in the audio thread when not playing but also has some negative side-effects because of it.

But it's also just like cars, there are many different brands and models. It doesn't mean one is useless if the other more expensive one can do some more stuff or has a nicer color. You also have to like the way it behaves. That's why AEM will have two different UI behaviors for the timeline in the near future. Although I am convinced that the new behavior is heaps better, I saw with the update from v4 to v5 of the Android version, there was a lot of resistance to this change. So many people actually liked having the Edit button which just slows things down, so I just decided to give the user a choice in the end. The new interface behavior is more CB/Auria-like.

How capable is Audio Evolution at audio editing?. Bought Auria for this but it’s crashing hell.
I mean: cross fades, region merging, committing audio (bounce in place), editing a portion of audio... Like editing a guitar take to fix some offending note. Basic stuff that’s nowhere to be found in other daws except for Auria.
Looked at the manual but can’t see anything about this.
    Cheers!.

Not sure if you saw it AP dev just announced a hot fix is on the way to deal with AUv3 related crash.

Thanks for all this info, it's very helpful. One final request (or maybe it's there already but I've missed it). Is there any plan to allow us to change the default colours of the tracks? I have problems with the mauves and purples of the first tracks, and am using a clunky workaround to insert empty audio tracks in front of them to avoid those colours. It would be nice to be able to just select a colour.

The Android version has a colour picker so internally it can, but I'll see if there is some example iOS colour chooser component that can be integrated.

  • Brilliant. Thanks a lot.

The UX of this app (particularly editing) has been what has stopped me from getting into this app in the past. Functionally there's a lot to like, but the workflow didn't really work for me.

Definitely going to investigate this app again when the new timeline behavior is implemented.

This will also be very helpful for people like me. Sometimes I also like to slow down the tempo of an entire MIDI recording and this seems like the best way to do it, though of course I could also do it with MIDI time-stretch once you’ve implemented that too. Lots of great new features - thanks again!

For what it’s worth, I like the purple tracks. After years of looking at Logic 9’s grey with those awful green tracks, purple is really nice on the eyes.

Search for “iOS 14” in the forum’s search box. There are a variety of issues that have a number of people regretting that they updated. Some have been ironed out, some not yet.

@dwrae Looking forward to your next update, and thank you so much for your hard work and relentless activity! In the iOS ecosystem it is very encouraging to see a major DAW that’s always updating and improving. Perhaps the update will take into account iOS14 and tackle its challenges.

I think Auria Pro is still the iOS benchmark DAW, and it’s my go-to, but stability issues and infrequent updates are the question mark for many users. Cubasis 3 works and satisfies many people, it’s totally a major DAW, but for me it’s a bit cluttered to be honest, and the lack of tempo/time signature within a song is a deal breaker. AEM being universal, stable, and feature rich, will not only help it keep pace with AP/CB3, but possibly surpass them down the line. We all support you and thanks again for the hard work!

Wow, that’s awesome! Yes, this is exactly what I was looking for. And very cool about having the choice of stretching CC’s or not.

My goodness, you did that quickly! Thank you so much for implementing my suggestion! I think many people will find it very useful.

I’m new to this forum and even fairly new to Audio Evolution but I want to second what others have said here and thank you for your attentiveness and for all of your hard work!

I am curious: Are there any plans for iCloud integration? Being able to save directly to the iCloud is pretty great.

I should say that I am using the Dropbox cloud sync feature, it is working well, and I am quite happy with it. But since I am an Apple user, I thought I would ask about iCloud anyway.

Incidentally, I don’t know about other users, but the fact that I can run AEM on my phone as well as my iPads is a big plus. The other two DAWs I use/have used are iPad only and I have often found this frustrating when I want to tweak something and I only have my phone with me.

I looked into iCloud years ago, but it's like anything Apple: they have to do everything different just for the sake of it. DropBox and Drive behave like you expect: you just have a file system with folders. iCloud doesn't have such a thing (or at least not when I investigated it), which complicates matters enormously. I am not saying it cannot be done, it's just frustrating.

I can only comment on the user end since I don’t know what Apple has going on behind the scenes, but for the user there is now a file system with folders in the iCloud. On iPhone and iPad you now access iCloud through an app called Files, in fact.

  • For me, using an Ipad and an Android phone, having the same Dropbox filing system is pretty useful.
