Looks pretty, what do you do with it?
I thought this looked cool and made an abbreviated version with sequences, etc. Played it... Unholy mess! LOL Looks pretty though.
@Alex fox you swipe and hold across it for a semi random collection of one of each instruments loops and various morphs for each. The drums toggle for a steady beat. Each loop is filled with a 4 or 8 bar phrase. Each column is set of phrases created to work together based off chords or bass. It all gels surprisingly well.
Ahhh! I'm only now noticing you've got most of these set for hold instead of toggle. I did all toggle. Makes MUCH more sense now. Looking forward to eventually being about to share projects.
@skiphunt hold with "turn off on exit" OFF. Important.
Yep. That's going to be a fun swapshop if it ever turns up...
when's somebody gonna build a Q-bert surface?
With that awesome death-in-the-abyss sound!
Alex. Please please could you consider some kind of 'active step' widget so as to be able to vary the loop patterns on the fly. Or kind of like like elastic drums performance page - allow for a morph to be able to be set to trigger just a portion of the pattern not the whole thing.
Other than the obvious things like Link - this is the one thing I think it needs to take it to full performance joy.
Right now all the loops are just a bit too pre-baked. (Although I do like the way that a morph can transpose a pattern on the fly).
+10000.
for varying loop patterns on the fly: have the loops you want to vary set to toggle, then have solo hold variations.
what do u mean by "the loops are just a bit too pre-baked" ? there are no built in loops.
can uu explain what you mean by active step ?
I think he means he wants to be able to mash them up a bit after they've been recorded. The Note Transformer Cell we've been talking about would be pretty sweet!
I think he means Active step, like in the Korg Volca sequencers when you can turn on or off individual steps so they skip.
I've not tried the Korg Volca sequencers. Can you explain in more detail ? I'd be interested to here.
We were thinking about a mode for a Fill which would start at the next note in the sequence rather than at the start. There would also be a cool down timer so that it would reset to the start.
Modstep has a similar "active steps" feature if you have that to look at, so if you have 16 steps in your pattern you can quickly turn on or off any of the individual steps so the sequence becomes shorter, instead of a pause or rest if the step is turned off, the sequence jumps to the next "active" step.
I think Thesys has this too...
Any type of probability control would also be a good feature from my point of view.
yeah i understand ... we do have plans for some live note transformation cells. active step is interesting (just watched a video about it). I could imagine having a cell that maps to a particular step configuration - (i.e. pressing it would remove time at various points). We have some other ideas which are like harmonisers/rhythmizers/delay lines.
Can you explain the note transformer cell? Sounds enticing...
This. Please. Yes.
excellent! you are the first iOS dev I've heard use the word rhythmizers, you might just be the one the prophecies foretold of.
I like!!!!!
Recorder cells and audio import! Looking forward to that for real. It would be nice if when import a loop let's say the amen break and being able to set the sample starting point, ending point so that you can pretty much trigger any parts of the same sample. That way, no need to chop the sample beforehand.
IAA was in there somewhere too? I'm sure I saw this being mentioned on the website.
Yep. By pre-baked I mean that the loop is exactly the same every time it loops. And that can get kind of boring. And all you can do is turn loops on or off and change the sound and pitch. But not the timing/rhythm of the notes.
IMO the very best performance tool that uses a kind of 'active step' method (allowing you to choose different portions of the midi loop) is the one in Genome and Bleep!Box (same dev). Try it. It's brilliant because:
Here's some grabs from bleep!BOX. Your index finger and middle finger determine the start and end position of the loop and can be moved around on the fly. If you release your fingers it goes back to playing the whole loop, in time as if you'd never messed with it.
I know that the above might challenge you for space on the surface - but if you could double tap a diamond to bring up a small panel to do this on (for that diamond's loop) it would be amazing.
Most of the best sequencing (IMO) is all about morphing and mashing the actual sequence(s) on the fly and really playing the sequence like an instrument.
Yes. But for the loops that aren't being "played", basic randomization, rythmization, etc really combat the sameness as well.
Was thinking also something along the lines of loading in a loop and it would auto-slice/transient slice to 16 pads or user defined amount of pads. Also manual slicing of course.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 so now the question is, do I want BleepBox? It looks deceptively simple. Fun and easy to jam out with? Good sounds?
This will be implemented later as a sample slicer instrument!
@Alex fox Awesome! thank u!
