Their pack instruments are certainly built that way, but I doubt they'll give us the keys to that castle. Too complicated to explain to the userbase, and they need to sell packs, after all. I'd like to think they'll eventually find a way to improve sample editing, though.

Meh. That's kind of a buzz kill. Not many pads left over once you load up any decent size drum kit. But, at least the option to use multiple instances is there.

I don't think it would have to be complicated for users. Just select multiple samples with a double-tap, like you can with multiple folders now, then select "Make Instrument" from a menu ... or something like that.

But I agree that it could be intentionally limited in order to promote sound packs. Fair enough.

I'm not that excited about this purchase. I don't see at all what it adds to my stable of already similar tools. I don't regret the few dollars, but seriously considering if the many megabytes are worth keeping it around.

I saw all of the hype for this app and many here who are obviously excited about it... price is nice... but then I saw that HUGE file size. Then, started thinking about apps I have that seem kind of similar... that I don't really use much, like iMaschine 2, etc.

Was trying to figure out what all of the hubbub was about so I watched that dude demoing it in what looks like a photo studio. It was ok, but none of it really sounds all that unique.

Meh... I don't get it. Most of the music I've heard so far from this app sounds kind of generic to me. Not bad, but not really... not sure what it is. Maybe it's the packs that make it all kind of sound pre-fab and very similar?

Any clips out there that really show off what I'm obviously missing with this app? I suppose I could make the room on my iPad by deleting other stuff I'm not using much, but I have not heard anything that warranted nearly a whole GB's worth of deletions.

Could be... this is one of those that's not such a good fit with my taste.

It was never the sounds for me, just the convenience of the workflow. I never buy soundpacks and just like using my own sounds. The AU is great but I haven't really had time to test it properly yet. So I'm not sure how it will handle my own samples.

I quite like the ideas behind it's workflow, as it gets beyond the beats and promotes developing a full arrangement, but the inability to make more convincing instruments is grating me more and more.

What do you like on iOS for making convincing instruments? I'm not disagreeing. I'm just curious to know what works for you.

Can't speak to your tastes or file space priorities... For my part, I have a 32 GB iPad Air 1, and it is always maxed for space. I have iMachine 1 and 2 (w almost all the expansions), Gadget w all expansions, and Beathawk w/ abt 1/2 the available expansions... All great, but for whatever reason, Beathawk has gotten the most use on my tracks. I think it has to do with the way that one pad can become an instrument... I don't know, the interface, the sounds just click for me -- at least so far.

I posted another one earlier in this thread that is 99.9% Beathawk. Most of the tracks you will find on my SoundCloud have Beathawk as a major component. I don't know if you will like them, but they cover a wide range of styles and give you some idea of what can be done with the app.

Well that doesn't sound generic. I like!

Your stuff reminds me of one of my favorite Steinski albums... impressive stuff.

  • Yeah I'm not too jazzed about the sounds either. If I'm using bread and butter type sounds, they better be super super cheesy. These sounds seem like they're playing it safe. Like the sample designers didn't want to offend anyone. So some of you dig using your own samples though despite the old school sampler type behavior? Because i think I'm gonna have to do it that way.

  • My guess is that if you don't get a 1 and 1 seems to be 3 feeling out of the flow (which you legitimately may not, such a personal thing etc) then this may not be for you. That's the sauce for some of us and it tastes good, but, you know....toast.

The hardcore drum machine/sampler types don't seem too excited, but that's no surprise. Maybe BM3 will meet their needs, but I'm 99.9% sure it won't be a free update.

As far as the sounds in BeatHawk being nothing special, I'm not much of a soundpack buyer, but I actually prefer my loops/samples to be dry. That's what effects are for.

I'm will admit that I am a bit miffed at the amount of space that BeatHawk requires. I haven't had it installed for some time now, but I'll give it a few updates and see how it goes. To your point, there is something to be said for ease of composing.

Sure. The fact is that I normally don't need to make instruments, nor do I really want to. I like this app for it's speedy workflow, and that would just slow me down. It's not BW's fault, but when I see those piano keys on the screen, I have an expectation that I can either send midi out to another sound source, or (thanks to Korg) have a quiver of dedicated gadgety things to use. The packs in BW don't cover my interests much. Again, not their fault, as I surely fall outside their target demo. Nothing new there. There's still a lot to like, so I'll be keeping it around.

  • So after redownloading the app and testing v2 over the WE, I just re-deleted it this morning... I may be unluky but the app still feel unstable on my side (which why I deleted it the first time)... I may be a bit touchy with this aspect I admit... Stability is one of my main requirement when it comes to music apps... And that's why it's hard for me to test other apps after using Gadget 3 (with wich I almost never experienced any bug/stability issue while using it every day since its release)...
But I'm very happy that BH2 seems to satisfy so many people here on the forum... I really appreciate the fact that devs are making the app progress ;-)

Gadget 3 isn't out yet, are you from the future or a beta tester? :)

  • Is Michael J.Fox testing again ?

  • Sorry for the mistake... I wanted to say Gadget in general, but my hype for incoming v3 got me I guess... Sorry for that guys ;-)

Anyone got a 'multi export' done in BH2 yet?
My exports are not showing up in ITunes.. is it me or, is it a bug?

As I understand it, for technical reasons iTunes export is not supported right now. Unless you do things just so, export of any kind is elusive. Check the thread carefully.

  • Just skip iTunes export and send the files directly to AudioShare using iCloudDrive.
If you need to send it to the desktop/laptop use AudioShare's WiFi-Drive feature.

I <3 this feature. I don't know why UVI decided to hitch their wagon to Retronyms AudioCopy, but it sure would be nice if they integrated the AudioShareSDK for importing/exporting. Hint, hint, @BastienCo.

For me personally it's 'good enough' with 'Open In...', Airdrop and iCloud Drive/Document-Picker support :)
And to be honest, the less 3rd-party SDK's that are in use the better. The current 'AudioCopy' is a 'plague'...

I agree for the most part, but according the AudioShare page, it can be implemented with a single line of code.

I know but i recall the issue with one iOS update some time ago.

There was no need to 'update' the AudioShare SDK but the plist file of the app that used the SDK had to be updated.
(We never know what iOS11 will bring thus avoid 3rd-party SDKs is generally a good idea regarding future compatibility and current iOS provides 'good enough' tools for shuffling files from one app to another when used).

Thanks all, the problem is that I do not get the option to 'export' to any source, the files goes to the export folder in BH2 (into its own folder). Then, you cannot export the folder from there.. The two finger gesture (on the folder) only give the option to 'import' from iCloud and it's locations..

Edit ... and iTunes do not show the files/folders on my desktop...

    Thanks..

You might be right, but every developer runs the risk of getting "Sherlocked" by Apple. I'm just making a suggestion, and wouldn't dream of lecturing a developer on how to build their app, but the downside seems pretty minimal.

It maybe a plague, but it's a revenue generator for app developers.

You cannot export folders. An upcoming update will add that ability I believe.

The workaround that does it for me is to a "Save as..." and give the project a new name, then export and you should see a file this time and the two finger gesture should work. Once your project has a unique name, it should just require a regular "Save" before exporting.

iTunes does not work, for technical reasons. If you have any other questions, you should probably go through the thread, as it's all been covered already.

  • I have an odd happening. I deleted the updated BeatHawk to give it a complete new download from fresh. Once loaded I reloaded the 14 sound packs I have. Thing is I've gained back over 2gb of storage and now the app is showing as only just over 900mb in size.
I've checked that the sounds have downloaded and they seem to have. It's all very odd.

Any chance reinstalling cleaned out a sizeable User Library? Just to confirm, you downloaded the sound packs individually? As stated previously by richardyot, it's not enough to just restore purchases.

Yep definitely has reinstalled the sounds as I've tried using many just to see the whole packs downloaded. Not sure I had many song parts left as I tend to get rid of them after a while.
I just can't see how the app is meant to be nearly the same download size as I have, yet with all the packs that seem to have downloaded, I would have thought it would be a much larger size showing. Always showed up as a larger size in the past, but I did used to leave more songs saved. I always try to trim old songs off the apps now as I'm usually running out of storage these days lol.
