Has anyone else noticed that it sounds a lot like the vowels Animoog makes? I was playing it with Animoog keys and had to check twice cause I thought I forgot to turn Animoogs volume down
I have some issues of slowness and stucked keys (i think obscurium won't run on the iPad 2) but this synth has a big potential for electro, techno and dubstep music .
You are now the 'official' comparer to see if I missed anything by being a cheapskate ....
I'd be interested too. Apart from anything else, by buying the phone version you get to use it on both devices.
Here's a review for the VST/AU from 10 years ago. Not sure if they've changed the presets since then, but according to the review, Sugar Bytes went heavy on the overdrive. Something to consider if you pick this up and use presets...

I'm getting stuck notes and GUI freezes on the iPad version running on an iPad Pro 12.9.
Definitely needs an update!
I do and it is pretty amazing. It is one of those ones where I tend to get best results starting a track with it as opposed to adding it to one in progress, in most cases. it does so much... stuff! Just wish I could get to know it on the commute.
Looks exactly the same so far. You were smart about the cheapskate strategy
Hmmm...tempting. Does it work ok as IAA?
Any stuck notes or slowness on an Air2?
I succumbed to the iPhone version, great synth for a fiver. Lots of sounds in there.
I bought the iPhone version - horrible latency & ui lags, basically unusable.. (on 7 Plus)
Installed the iPhone version on my iPad Air 2 - works like a charm..
Weird.
Yeah, hard to pass up a Sugar Bytes synth at that price... only 34 MB, too.
There is some stuck keys every now and then on the iPhone version on 6s but otherwise works fine. Weird that there's so many different experiences.
I think it's just the Sugar Bytes Logo
I'm sure they'll fix any issues quickly. Haven't noticed any problems on SE although I've been using it on the AIr 2 so far...
Interesting to see Sugar Bytes developing an app for iPhone. I believe this is their first iPhone app?
Not sure about this one, nice to see Sugar Bytes actively bringing stuff to iOS though. I'm more excited about the Egoist 1.5 update, it's currently for desktop only but I assume they'll bring it to iOS as well. I own both versions so it's all gravy. They even updated their website: https://sugar-bytes.de/en
Rock on Sugar Bytes, rock on.
Egoist 1.5 desktop update:
" The new version adds features to all four engines: all sequencers are polyrhythmic now with independent clock dividers, the slicer got a monophonic mode, we added scales to the bass, powerful mod sources to the filter and a Pan control for the HiHats!
There’s also new content: more presets, new slicing samples and a fresh drumkit: "Cwejman S1". "
Damn i was hoping it was a random hit song generator
Egoist updated earlier today with all the same features as the desktop version + Link
Gah, missed that thread, it slipped to the 2nd page rather quick.
Got to be a difference, no? Scaling? Resolution? Now you've got me wondering, sat here with my finger hovering over the buy button etc...
Nice one SB. I'd love to see a customizable keyboard, preferably at least around 32-37 keys on the iPad as an option (the pitch/mod wheels area could be made a lot smaller here without it affecting usability). Can't really funk out on a 1 octave keyboard:-)
Going a step further and having the keys as a mod source could be fun (sliding fingers across the screen while holding a note or chord, Nave style).
Scaling is only dif...as @BiancaNeve said it's a little like a widescreen compressed.
It's got a slightly larger mb footprint than the iPad one, the AppStore description is the same, verbatim, and there all the same parameters and presets
Mine was hovering, but I'm not sure I'm that fussed with the sounds I've heard from it, and anyway haven't really heard much that couldn't be done in Cyclop (that's also got the vowel stuff, and a whole lot more besides).
But it's a Sugar Bytes synth for a fiver...
I love Cyclop, but it's like a dog you admire but stay away from because of its jaws...
Bought the big boy for the big boy, as much (as mentioned above) to support/say yay for the Link Egoist etc. Bass sounds are ridiculous in a painful/good way,....
FWIW (and after a reboot) I'm not able to save altered presets. Gives me the choice to rename and save and then wants to open a file in the User Directory when I go to look for it, but all the User slots are just marked 'empty'. Bug no doubt (perhaps specific to the iPad?). Anyway, WILL HAVE TO BE FIXED
-Have posted a ticket at their site, will report back etc.
Any bonus in having this as well as Cyclop?
Not qualified Captain. Sounds MORE than anything else I have in some (erm, unique) ways, but as indicated I have not managed to make Cyclops dance to my tune as of yet. Would welcome more informed views etc. One little thing I DO like is the feeling I only sometimes immediately get with an app which is a little voice/feeling which says "Hmmmm, gonna use this, gonna put this in something, gonna MAKE SOMETHING with this..."...
