Finger hovering over the 'buy' button...
I bought it and played today. Very nice app, great sound, not-so-complicated workflow once you have (carefully) been through the tutorial. Now it really needs more integration with the rest of the ios music world because itunes files sharing is... no-good !
I like the drum sounds and sequencers in the tutorials. Is there LINK, or any way to load it in AB or AUM
No, at the moment it seems to be a standalone app. I really like it but without the “standard” features, I would not recommend it...except if you are into live performances
Happy New Year Everyone! Has Doug or Jakob done a tutorial on this app? I just got it and could use their help in getting me going. If you guys have not done a video yet for this app please think of adding this app to your tutorial to do list as I would love to see it demoed. Cheers!
Have you tried the devs tutorials on their YouTube channel? You’re likely going to get more use out if those. It isn’t really a preset demo kind of app.

Yup working through them now. That is true too thanx Skip!
@cuscolima , thanks for the reply, I’ll hold off then, wait to see what comes in the next couple of updates.
FYI: Although it's likely that this app isn't for some of you who tend to want your apps familiar and "standard"... it's as much a GUI visual triumph as it is a very interesting new type of sound interface.
Also... the devs are now calling the $9.99 "special limited pricing" so, I guess it really is a sale and not a decrease in price. No clue if it's still on sale though. Last I checked it was.
Basically, if you like what you hear and the interface looks interesting to you in the demos... might want to save yourself $5 while you still can.
If the demos and interface don't look inviting at all... and you prefer standard interfaces with maximum connectivity... it might not be your cup of tea. I think the advances and updates so far, warrant the gamble... but my general taste in sound and interface doesn't tend to reflect the "norm" on this forum I've found.
Here's their instagram feed for somewhat regular updates and demo clips:

What’s the CPU hit like Skip?
I feel like I am supposed to be wowed but the end sound doesn't do anything for me.
I can't give you a definitive answer on that because it doesn't play in background, so that I could see how much it's hitting CPU in AUM, etc.
What I can say is that I can run it on my iPhone SE just fine. After you get several "mazes" going, and possibly a couple of sequencers with samples playing... eventually you'll get some cracks and pops. The iPad Pro can go much further than this obviously, but it will eventually happen on the "pro" too.
Don't really have a solid idea of what you like in apps or how you use them in general. I'm hesitant to recommend to you, because there are a few things that are frustrating still. For example, after I record a sample to use, there doesn't appear to be a way to delete my sample from within the app, but I can through itunes file sharing. Apparently, I can't get it going in the background. No IAA or AB connectivity, and no AudioShare connectivity to import/export samples.
I can get my own samples into it via record onboard mic, or dropping them in using iTunes File Sharing. Not ideal, but it works. I can record a session then transfer that out via iTunes file sharing.
So, I'd say that if you can live with this app currently relying on iTunes file sharing to get stuff in and out, with the knowledge that the devs are saying better file management is coming... you might get on well with it.
Just ran a session into Logic via Lightning cable. Worked out fine. I also recorded a session in app, then pulled that out via iTunes file sharing. Works fine. I'm ok with that for now... but I'd love at least AudioShare or Files App support for in/out. I personally don't mind if it doesn't have IAA or AB, though being able to load it up into AUM would be delightful.
It's only discounted by $5 at the moment. You could wait and verify more connectivity comes if those are dealbreakers for you. My gut tells me you'd get at least $10 worth of pure fun out of it regardless and I'd go for the $5 discount now, but that's for you to decide.
The sounds it can make can be significantly altered, but they mostly sound like they're in the same family. You can also add your own samples to play and sequence within the app for more customization. The devs are claiming the imminent update will have midi connectivity, more ways to customize the coloring and look, and something to do with user file management, but I don't know what that is.
From a performance standpoint, you can have the graphics going out via airplay or via a projector connected to the ipad... and see just the graphics rather than the interface you're playing/editing/manipulating.
I'd have to say that many here will feel like it's not standard enough, or don't dig the sound, or don't get on with a very different kind of interface. However, there are some here on the forum that I'd wager will at minimum, get a great deal of pleasure using this app. And, with the ability to at least record into a desktop DAW or using itunes file sharing (for now) it's possible to incorporate your sessions into other platforms. If you like what you hear, see, and you've watched a couple of the developer demos and aren't put off, I think you might be one of those who'd dig this one. If not immediately, eventually so.
Thanks Skip, lots of useful info there.
I’m finding it difficult to make a decision on this, and when that’s happened before and I’ve jumped in, I’ve regretted it.
The connectivity limitations I could live with, if the in-app recording wasn’t iTunes only, that’s a step too far backwards for me.
The default synth sound I find a bit grating, but the modified patches in the vids are nice - some almost have a Robert Fripp vibe about them.
Visuals - seems a bit of a waste if I can’t record it all as a video/sound file, would probably grate after a while and I’d rather use the CPU for smoother sound quality.
So I think I’ll pass for now. The results and playability are definitely my cup of tea, and I can live with some of the restrictions, but I feel I’d have to make too many compromises at this point in time.
Thanks for the feedback thought, it’s helped me come to a decision, and still one to keep an eye on.
If that what your gut tells you, so be it. It's likely not for you.
Now, I think for 2018, I'm going to take FAR less time with my replies about apps on this forum. Short, yes, no, or IDK from here on out I think.
Erm...ok, thanks.
Nothing against you. Just the realization that I'm spending WAAAY too much time on forums like this. I know you're often "on the fence" but it sounded like you just needed a little more info before pulling the trigger.
The trouble is with me. You see, I'm compelled to make sure that I don't misinform. I also hate all the app blogs and videos that constantly tout how great every freakin' single app is, no matter what. You can't get any relevant info from most of them before you make the purchase.
So, with your question... I ended up taking over half an hour answering for you... because I actually verified everything I told you by getting that app out and making sure it could do everything I said it could do. I also looked for various ways I might measure it's CPU hit for you, but couldn't find one. So, I launched it again on the IPhone SE to see how it would perform on a lesser CPU with less RAM. I then launched Logic Pro to make sure there wasn't any snafus using it in a desktop DAW.
I'm actually trying to get ready to travel again. Haven't even started packing or working out my finances to make sure it's even doable right now. The last thing I need to be doing to trying to convince someone to buy and app that they likely have already convinced themselves they don't need.
I'm aggravated at myself that I took the time and capitulated anyway, instead of just saying, "I don't know, but I don't have time to check for you right now. Good luck." Why? Do I really care if you buy it or not? No, not really. Do the devs need my help promoting their app? No, not really. They have some grant from a German bank, I think some other funds, and they've done TED talks. I seriously doubt they need any help from me.
Realized the amount of time I've spent on this forum over the last couple of years. Time that I could've been actually out doing something with all these apps, instead of constantly on this forum reading and writing about them. Truth is, I don't need anything else and would be better served to disconnect for awhile and actually concentrate spending time with creation and much less on idle chatter on music app forums. For chrissakes, I'm not even a freakin' musician! lol
I just mess around with sound design some. That's it.
So, thanks for reminding me to think twice with how time is spent. It was a much needed and appreciated wake up call to get out there and do something with this stuff... read a book, make art, capture interesting field recordings, motion graphic experiments, brainstorm entrepreneurial ideas... watch a sunset... anything but what I've been doing and to get off the effing dark-hole void the internet can become.
Ok, back to packing!
Thanks again, Cheers
It helped me though, the extra info helped me to make an informed decision. I was on the fence, but a couple of things in your reply made me realise I'd probably regret the purchase. That's what good feedback is all about.
I spend too much time on here. I responded to a couple of queries on here today and the OP's didn't even acknowledge my replies. Is it wasted time? Probably not, I'd only be getting into mischief otherwise.
Yes, yes. I do like to help because others give me help. It's just I haven't trained myself to break away from the OCD-driven obsession of checking stuff all the time. I need to start recognizing where the time is going and how I should be using it. I don't think many people like to think about, or dwell on the fact of how precious time is our only unrewable resource. Once it's gone, it's gone.
Was happy to help, as I always am... I just need to re-focus my efforts and retrain myself out of bad time management habits.
Thanks for all of the detailed info here guys
You're words are much appreciated!
I think this app is a stand out. I use it for live performance / capture and I get a heap of killer stuff from it.
The vids could have info on what is exactly happening when certain selections are made, as I think this info would bring more players onboard
The app is really futuristic, it's a beacon of where music making on a surface should be heading.
Visionary in design, playability and performance interaction.
Updated today.
Had some fun with it making a great sequence. Although confused about saving and recording. Can't find what I made on reload but sure it's there somewhere.
Frustrating thing is, the notes said IAA was included but it's not there yet, maybe next one
Also not sure what version I have updated? Thought it was supposed to be 1.09 but when I open it, it says 1.08?
Yeah, one of the 5-6 i’ve gotten a refund on over the years. I’m not looking for neat; I’m looking for a great sound or a ‘shortcut’ to making melodies, to be quite honest.

The way I read the notes was ‘what about IAA, midi etc?...were always working and improving and we will add midi to iOS next time’. Which is a bit weird because to me it definitely didn’t say IAA next release. Hopefully midi and no timeline on IAA....
@skoptic Yeah especially as it said at the end:
"So in this version is no midi connectivity activated, but you have the opportunity to use InterAppAudio"
which obviously piqued my interest
could easily have been an error though and it slipped through I guess.
Exactly
What they need to do is host other apps IAA/AU and use their images vids with external music triggered by there grid as a "TC DATA" type thing.
Even with MIDI and samples hard to see how this gets the depth it really needs
I hope it does.
It is a great concept
IAA isn’t working as it was supposed to. They are aware of it. They are fixing it and will have another update very soon. They’re trying to get the iOS midi right for this update too.
I love the app and how it’s evolving. I also happen to like it’s sound quite a bit, but it may not be for some of you. That’s the great thing about all the choices we have. There’s a LITE version of this available now too, try it for free and if it doesn’t suit your needs or taste, move on. Simple.

Thanks for heads up on the free version. Will check it out.
Just saw that Soniface by Mazetools is on-sale for all platforms until Sunday. Before you ask, the AB/IAA functionality made a brief appearance, but didn't quite work. However, recording a performance and then exporting out to AudioShare, etc. does!
They keep at it with this one. They've also got 11 tutorials on YouTube now. Watch a couple and maybe try out the free demo to see if you want to take advantage of the sale. https://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/mazetools-soniface-lite/id1273836217?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=2
Here's a recent tutorial using the sampler:
