Yes, right when it first came out they said they knew the would be a lot of demand for that and that it will come out in a future update.
Agree on the preset issue. I think that this whole dull and administrative issue of preset handling/sorting is something that deserves some thought on their part. Will and would be good for business etc.
It seems like it should be one of the bigger bang for buck features given the tools we enjoy already. With apps like these though decisions are made to keep people motivated to stay within 'pay loops'. It happens in free to play mobile games constantly where features that would make the game more fun are left out because people pay more when they are on a certain threshold of frustration and reward, solved by paying money. Can't save your own presets... but you can buy ours... chingching... I feel this app is very gamified in that way. Even in how the IAP unfolds within the app.
Do both. Interestingly (perhaps) is the fact that if I can save my own presets I am also more likely to keep going back to the app/involve it in projects etc, and will also buy more packs...
You are likely not the primary target fish in the barrel. It is about casting a very wide net and making pennies per user over dollars in the process.
BUT, but, I am plump and willing and smell less of fish but more of young roses, both decorative and delicious etc.
While I know that music apps are not games, and I think these folks are making a damn cool, fun, creative app, the success of free to play games on mobile is likely driving a lot of creative ideas in how this app is being strategised, beyond a conventional productivity tool, where music software has traditionaly been. If you are of the graphy numbers type this may be of interest...
http://www.gameanalytics.com/blog/metrics-all-game-developers-should-know.html
In a nutshell the biggest game companies, making the most money get about $0.10 per user per day for about a month and only 10% of users hang around for more than a month! That is like $3 in a month, 90% of users leave after a month and they rake in millions with this strategy.
Music folks are likely more of the niche/obsessive, collector bent... I would assume... maybe... I don't know... but the science is more or less in on games and I am sure it has a huge effect on how even music apps like this are developed. So in terms of features, moving forward and what to expect. Who knows... free to play music apps are a bit of a new frontier but ultimately the success of free to play is about preserving and nuturing compulsion loops.
Feeding into the whole Blocs/Launchpad ec(h)osystem and keeping users wanting to buy more content is likely the biggest priority. I think song mode may or may not be seen as stepping on launchpads toes somewhat. Anyway, I am hoping automation fits in the big picture.
I usually buy almost whatever if the core app is great. I have all the expensive Auxy packs. But with this I think the song mode should have been part of the core app and that's why I've spent only 10 to unlock the bass and poly

Good and thoughtful post. I have no doubt decisions are made on these things (rather than not thinking about them at all), but I can also see evidence that folks with a number of apps can talk themselves into not treading on the toes of their other apps etc., but in the real world end up falling between stools by hamstringing their mixed metaphors etc.
Hehe, yah in my experience it is usually not the passionate creative devs that create such roadmaps.
I was hoping to be able to do it in step mode- in order that I can make small adjustments- either slightly smaller or slightly bigger- or all uniformly the same size. Is this possible?
You can get pretty small steps if you select narrow triplets upper right of the grid...but i think it is permanently set to snap to gridlines when drawing in notes.
If you use the on screen keyboard, there is an option next to the record button for snap/Free input...it would be useful to have the same option in the grid view to be able to get a more human feel to programmed patterns.
It's just been updated again- quick work as usual

Oh yes, been there done that. Undo would be a useful addition.
Hey All,
We've just updated Groovebox today to version 1.2. We've added swing (16th and 8th note). You can find it in the tempo setting panel.
Next up, we're working hard on Chromatic mode and MIDI IN. Hopefully out in a few weeks.
// Ampify x Novation
Ooh midi in sounds lovely, thank you! Any ETA on a song/scene mode?
So no preset saving yet?
Presets and scenes, all a boy could want etc. Understand (even if I disagree tactically) if they choose not to go with the presets, but would nice to know one way or the other if it's on the docket for one day...
Can't forget about automation
presets, scenes, automation (knob movement recording style). a must have if those all make it in
Cheers guys, I'm sure it's been really tempting to spend these hot days around the centre of Wycombe...Incidentally is the synth engine related to,any other Novation synth engines?
Swing puts the Groove into Groovebox
Why keep peeps waiting for Midi out? Also other great ideas mentioned in development. Much more useful than Chromatic mode, IMHO.
MIDI IN will require chromatic mode otherwise you would end up with 'dead' keys on your keyboard controller, which would drive keyboard players mad, and probably generate a whole bunch of support requests asking why keyboards are not working properly with MIDI IN.
Or you could have scale mapped midi ins like how thumbjam and caustic do it. User toggle-able of course.
Indeed....the more options... the more happy users
Still loving this..
Hoping for more instruments and virtual midi in. The poly synth is so nice
Would like the things that have already been mentioned to death (presets, song mode etc) but should say I Linked this to Loopy last night and had a very productive/pleasing SIMPLE hour. Just a pleasure.
I think this is where it shines (over and above the synths themselves)....use it as your base cake and then link to loopy or blocs wave or whatever to add the icing.
Since it came out I haven't used any other synths or sequencers for more than a few minutes. Even the trusty ModStep and Gadget have been sidelined.
Hard hitters- the latest update/ soundpack for drums. Fine- not radically different- but only £1.99 and all the rest of it- I am happy to pay for newness- but would be far happier paying for newer Groovebox attributes than soundpacks at the moment.
