  • I bought the P-50... as I got the Roland D-20 for real
Any recommendations on the sound packs? Many of the demos are the same soundclip, it's difficult to decide.

Is there any reason not to sample au synths and then unload them?

I don't really know much about sampling synths, i usually just bounce tracks once i'm happy with them but the sampling here is so easy and fast that i'm thinking it would save some cpu and ultimately battery as well

Yah im gonna try this method out. Definitely lusting even harder after new ipad now haha

I'm a battery saver freak to be honest lol

I just hate wasting battery if i can avoid it but until now sampling has been too much of a hassle for me. It's just so easy here. I loaded an au plugin, opened it and it's already set up to sample with the record button placed in the bottom corner of the virtual keyboard

    Brilliant

Haven't opened it yet (you wait and wait and then it turns out you're in no hurry :)), but this sounds encouraging.

As a BM2 owner, the selling point for me is the ability to sample the output of an AU or IAA straight to a pad. Is this possible in BM3? Or does one still need to record in the arrangement first and then load the sample from the library?

Watch the YouTube tutorial by Synth Anatomy.

  • Has anyone received a code for the contest that INTUA had? I am pretty sure I had 0 people in front of me. Just wondering, wanting to get my hands on the app and don't mind paying for it but just wondering. @mathieugarcia

  • @gmslayton looking forward to your rundown, actually thought this was it.....

    That's possible and really easy

When you load an AU and open it, next to the virtual keyboard is a record button so you simply press record and play and it will go directly to the pad

Wow, awesome, thanks! That was the only thing I liked about iMPC, but it was just too buggy in general to work with. One last question: Are AU/IAA limited for use as sound sources? Or can they now also be used as insert FX on the channel? Or is it still native Intua FX only? Thanks again.

If i can make it work as someone who practically never sampled anything before, you know it's easy!

They show up in FX as well though i haven't really tried them yet

  • @kobamoto I will give a good rundown as soon as I get my hands on it.

@Blipsford_Baubie I am beta testing iMPC pro and I can tell you on the latest build, they have fixing a lot of bug issues. They must be under new management or something.

If the synth modulates over time (or via expression controls like velocity), it might not "work" properly once sampled. For lots and lots of sounds though, I'm a big fan of this method. And sometimes, the "not working" aspects of a sampled sound make for new and interesting sounds.

Does BM3 time stretch samples when played chromatically? That can be another +/- when sampling. If you sample a sound with a wavering filter, for example, the speed of the waver changes as you move up and down the keyboard, unless it does real-time time stretching. But again, this can be blessing or a curse, depending.

Good news indeed. I wonder if it's because Akai has recently invested a lot into the MPC brand. Costly to have any sort of shitty modern representations of the brand.

@Blipsford_Baubie Any word that you can share about any level of integration between iMPC Pro and the MPC Live/X?

  • if not it would be a strange coincidence since we've been asking for fixes for over 2 years

I can not get the free pack to download? It says purchase successful but I can not find the content? Top button on left shows where to choose but still only the original downloaded session showing.might try a reboot and if that doesn't work I'll delete app and reinstall perhaps.

Good news: To me, BeatMaker 3 joins Auria Pro and Cubasis as the "Holy Triumvirate of iOS DAW's".

(not so) Bad News: BM3 is clearly number three in that trio and not in name only.

Next to the professional "iOS's Pro Tools" complexity of Auria Pro and the "iOS's Cubase/Logic" MIDI & audio synergy of Cubasis, BeatMaker 3 is clearly "iOS's Ableton Live". INTUA have definitely tried to take all the successful qualities of BeatMaker 2 and expand on them with the Ableton influence and their answer to what other iOS "Production Environments" like BeatHawk, iMaschine and Gadget have brought to the table in the last few years.

After a few hours with the app I can't say definitively if they have done enough to sway some iOS musician/producers to embrace BM3 as their sole DAW but they have certainly created an app that cats from any genre can add to their production toolbox.

My bitches aren't deal breakers by far. I wish more of their IAP content was included in the base app because as a standalone BM3 has very little by way of instruments and samples to create with. I'm not asking for 5GB of great sound packs & instruments to be "thrown in", but a few kits outside the demo song material like a bass, electric piano and synth instrument included would've been nice.

As a few others have said BM3 is not as intuitive as some apps. It's no critique of their GUI or feature set, the app is just chock full of great tools that will take some time to fully master. This is one of those apps where reading the manual and watching tutorials from cats like @thesoundtestroom and @jakoB_haQ will pay dividends.

I'm going to go back and dig through it, but as for my first impressions I applaud Intua for taking the time to create such a full featured recording and composition tool that already rivals the well established contenders. There will be bugs to iron out and changes to be made but the effort put forth and patience Intua had to not just crap out a follow up to BM2 is obvious after two minutes with BM3, it is incredibly deep and I'm excited to experiment with it.

Just the summer nights that came with the app originally and that's it. . A restart did not help restore purchase did not help either going to uninstall and re install sometime after dinner.

  • @JRSIV nice comment. I havent bought the app yet but I am excited about the 122mb of space instead of the 900mb that BM2 took up. I am ok with little to no content since i will be recording and using my own sounds anyway. Maybe they will be open to adding sound packs from other users either for free or for sale.

No, sorry. Unfortunately I've never had the experience of owning a hardware MPC.

  • Is there a way to pull stuff in like Poison-202 and throw midi at it, Cubasis style? I like that functionality in Cubasis but the piano roll/midi editor is a giant pain in the ass compared to the Gadget workflow.

Got it the re install did the trick but it took quite a little while to get it loaded. Going to go play.

Well said. In some respects, BM3 was smart to occupy that role. We don't need another DAW, really, but I'm all for an ableton-style clip launcher.

I'm beta testing that too. Slices start and end points finally translate to mpc 2.0 software but mute groups, fader levels, pan and tuning do not. 16 level tuning seems to work so it looks like an issue translating the knobs and button setting from iMPC to MPC software. I don't own a live yet but I'm pretty sure it won't work if it doesn't fully work with the 2.0 software

  • It's a lot more stable too. So far I've had only 1 crash compare to at least 5 a day from the amount of usage it usually gets from me.

  • @ExAsperis99 said:

Thanks man, and to @JohnnyGoodyear too.

I agree about a clip lanch based/Ableton like app being much more welcome than another addition to the crowded traditional DAW app scene.

Gadget has been the only thing in that realm but the fact you have to play in Korgs garden has always made it very singular, i.e. people will ID a piece of work as "a Gadget song", "made in Gadget".

BM3's adds the MPC like groove box feature set and makes audio recording fairly easy. That work flow with all the AU possibilities and the incredible sampling facility really sets BM3 apart. It's not the greatest thing to hit iOS Music Production as some are saying, but it's damn good.

  • Having a ball messing around making drum beats while waiting for epic pads to download but no luck with my purchase so far, still waiting for it to show up

  • This thing is like buttah for my akai 232

  • Really wish the iaps from bm2 would transfer over. Spend good money for great sounds. Would hate to resample all those in
