Let me start with this one - it's the 3 zeeon demo I did - you could of course use any 3 synths you want...
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ulmlwuuoysfbi84/zeeon30sep17.qrk?dl=0

Haven't found a way to save AUM presets using airplay yet - anyone know? Can't believe Jonatan missed it out?

It took a lot of coaxing but I was able to "Open In" from DB and it works. Thank you!

Now, I'm off to figure out how to post something in DB. Wish me luck...

don't forget to share the link here!

I will definitely do that! Quick question: is there a way to set up a follow action to start/stop sequences? I can see how to start/stop parts, but I want to start sequence 1, loop 4 times, start sequence 2, loop 2 times, then stop sequence 2, start sequence 3, loop 4 times, etc. Possible?

Doesn't seem to work for me - looks like there is a bug or two here. Will fix that so expect a patch soon.
I tend to use link or > or < to chain sequences, so this got missed.

Ok good to know. Possible to add a sequence to play with an already playing sequence?

Dreaming a bit... New sequence type: sequence trigger. Instead of notes, the sliders select a sequence/part. Hit start on that and it will play the sequences, in order. Clock be damned.

Could extend "chord mode" so that you can set any step to play more than one sequence.

Use another slider type that wouldn't make sense for this (gate?) as a Transposer.

Edit the step to use repeats (get the most out of 64 'steps').

Play direction to bring the random.

With parts on the sequence sequencer rack, you could set them up as 4 multi-sequence "song sections" (intro, verse, bridge, chorus) or, if played simultaneously they'd work more like busses on a mixer (bass, melody...).

Sync would probably make the whole thing absurdly difficult but in my mind anyway, sounds like a fun way to manually string stuff together!

Oh wow. You just blew my mind. That would be so interesting and useful!

Thanks... Still on the '1' rack (track) thing.. and am blown away with some of the bassline sequences that Quantum throws out.

  • Yeah same here. Just dreaming when I’m able to have them follow Chord progressions from Navichord.

    Let's see if this works:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ytco0p6mrahpflg/quantumized.qrk?dl=0

The idea with this one is to get sequence 1 going and then layer in sequence 2 (by unmuting) for a couple of loops. Mute sequence 2 again and unmute sequence 3 for a couple of loops.

I use a percussive sample with this one; usually harp or acoustic string instruments in beathawk or thumbjam or Geoshred.

    Alright - I'm game:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ch3lfvf8wt7x8x6/Quantum 80's Funk.aumproj?dl=0

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/msdry29hl6tslw2/Quantum 80's Funk.qrk?dl=0

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/rmnjbgb0p664xfj/Quantum 80's Funk.wav?dl=0

The first link is the AUM template, the second is Quantum, the third is a wav file so you can hear what I was going for if you don't have the myriad of apps I'm triggering.

I'm stuck in an Electro-Funk mood for a while now so that's what I've been jamming in Quantum. No routing wizardry here (though I am messing with the probability and scale settings for the arp in the background) - just a funky groove.

    Hope you dig it!

How are the different sequences combined into a song? Do I use the sequence save and load buttons?

yes - have a look at the manual - p15 or so - Session 2 : More than one tune for more than one synth
    http://www.amssoftware.org/manual/QuantumManual.pdf

Also in Setup panel there is a button which enables/disables new sequences playing as soon as they are added.

I think this would be better as a new panel that allows you to launch sequences. It is in fact my clip sequencer launch pad I did a few years ago.

Obviously this can be augmented to allow controls for stop/start/triggering etc. It already has drag n drop.

But this is just one type of 'supervisor' type controller interface that will be created. Another is drag n drop sequences to a track timeline (so I then have a midi version of Ableton Live!). Another will be based on generative patterns at sequence (rather than step) level - so consider this a helping hand to run sequences in more complex but deterministic order (think of this as a loop type for sequences). Probably more ways too.

Here are the screenshots of the prototypes (I actually had this all working - with piano-roll editing, auto-quantisation etc so will see if I can run that project again to get the screen shots).

bass lines are a sequencers speciality ;) I need to get back to using model 15 app so I can show you how I use it for bass sequencing..

A song is just the project you are working on. Infact I've already enabled Quantum to handle multiple songs in file saves, so at some point, when I start expanding the higher structures (higher than 6 sequencer structure) I will allow you to quickly swap or copy/paste sequences between songs.

But for pattern playing, at the moment use versions (or actions loading versions) to string different sequences together.

  • @Navichord kindly gave me a promo - so have that to work with Quantum now in AB3 :)

The clip good looks like a better UI for wrangling clips. I imagine that view as a performance view--once I get my sequences dialed in, switch over to that clip view. Is that how you think about it?

Yes its a launch pad - similar to Ableton Live clip view. Go into Edit mode & tap the clip to open either the Quantum window or a piano-roll editor (I have one of those too that works on full midi files).

  • Those screenshots looking great! Can’t wait to see it working with Navichord.

  • So are you saying you're interested in getting Quantum working with Navichord?

  • Honestly havent gad a chance but yeah :)

  • Quantum makes a pretty darn good drum sequencer too. Here’s a simple example of a single rack running kick, snare, hats, and clap on Ruismaker in AUM. I used full 16 step sequences, but you could do the same with much shorter ones.

    • All notes are set the same in each part except for the hats (part D) which sends notes for open and closed hats.
    • All notes are left on (no mutes), and probability is set to 100% when a note should always play, and 0% if they should never play. That way you can dial in just a bit of probability to drop or add notes. This really makes the patterns come alive.
    • But there’s a catch. You have to go into each step and set “Action % if fail probability” to “% prob mute” or the parts don’t play right.

I purposely kept this simple, but there are so many ways you could do really cool things this way.

  • This may sound a bit naive, but it's there any way you can use this without AUM? I have BM3, Cubasis and Auria Pro, and a few AU3 instruments. I don't have Audiobus either. Bought AB2 but found that I never used it.

Just load up an instrument in the DAW and point Quantums midi to that channel and you're good to go :)

sometimes its best to just leave it default to Quantum active in output - that way you just need to enable any destination synth midi input to receive Quantum. More efficient too.
Some synths (especially new ones) only receive on their own virtual named port though - so thats when you need to go into Quantum & add another output.

Is this ok for people? Quantum now appearing in two new slots:
    Midi - Filter slot
    Audio - Input slot
Now I need to work out what transforms Quantum should do on midi input from apps in the input (like Navichord, Arpeggionome etc). At the moment its treating it like any other midi input, but I feel filter perhaps needs a special set of functions it can do for chords etc.

  • This is beautiful!

  • My goal is to use Quantum as my virtual Bass player.
Where it follows Navichord’s chord progressions but only affects the Bass root key and since Quantum’s magic is in the ability to create random stuff with probability it can be the virtual Bass player app no one has made until now!

With Quantum there are just endless possibilities I’m just so grateful that you’re here listening and responding to user ideas.

Truly can’t wait to see all the goodies coming up!

  • How does Quantum work as an audio input? It doesn't create any audio!
