Ok - so I'm just now passing the Casual-User-Look-Pretty-Lights! stage and digging in a bit deeper. I'm trying to explore more of the automation but for the life of me I can't figure out how to have Seq 1 play and then trigger Seq 2 upon completion. I'd even be up to setting Seq 2 to trigger Seq 1 again when done.

C'mon you MIDI geniuses out there - I know I'm missing something obvious. Help!

This is the kind of 'recipe' I'm talking about. :)

There are a few ways to do this.

    Easiest way:

If you're only working with two sequences, the easiest way is to tap the text next to 'Mode' (below the play button) and select 'Link'. Select Sequence 1, hit play and now it will play them back and forth one at a time.

    Another way:

    1. Set up the two sequences
    2. Add an "Start Seq/Part at slot" action to SEQ1. Set it to play SEQ 2, Part A. Apply, exit.
    3. Add an "Start Seq/Part at slot" action to SEQ2. Set it to play SEQ 1, Part A. Apply, exit.
    4. Set the "Mode" to "Free"
    5. Hit the play button on SEQ1. They'll go back and forth indefinitely.

I couldn't sort out a way to do this in 'All' mode. Might be possible by setting the loop type to 'Stop' on SEQ2 and then adding an extra action to change its loop type to forward. Think you'd have to also add a stop action, I'm not sure.

    Another way:

If the two sequences are set to Parts on the same sequence, you can tap the little blank box to the right of the stop button on the rack until it's a >. This will play the parts on a sequence sequentially.

    Another way:

Create two versions of the sequence ("v. save" on the far right), one for each part. Then use follow actions to toggle back and forth between them. This can be a little fiddly because you have to set follow actions on both (to load the next/prev version). If you forget, you have to go back and edit the version, add the follow action...

There are probably 4 more ways I haven't learned yet.

@syrupcore this is an "appetizer" that needs a recipe in the cookbook. Just a basic follow action for chaining sequences.

Here's another one: a recipe for using parts. I press the buttons, I know conceptually what they do, I can even configure them. But how do I create a main course with them?

  • @syrupcore Dude - when are we hanging out again so you can teach me all this stuff in person?

Wow, thanks for that. I was looking in the Actions menu, but couldn't understand what "Slot" referred to. Sometimes it's referred to as Sequence 1, other times Rack 1, and now Slot 1. I was over complicating the actions as well and it wasn't getting me anywhere.

The Mode section I hadn't seen before, so that's a great tip. I've been holding off on fully committing to the manual since I see Tony is still making regular updates to it.

  • @gonekrazy3000 Looptunes is the most under appreciated clip launcher on iOS. Great stuff with that controller!

Here's a fugue main course of sorts that goes into using parts. https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/21646/quantum-parts-as-fugue-machine-mini-tut

Will definitely hit you guys up again when I'm next down by the bay, where the iOS grows...

It's not just you. The naming has changed over time (was initially called 'rack sequencer') but not all of the labels have kept up. That needs to be cleaned up. Or if they do mean different things, explained.

Plus, some of these little bits are just kind of confusing!

    Got the update.
    Started with new rack

First thing, touched "Limit" in the upper right corner.
    That's it.
    Hangs forever.
Only the help works from this point on.
Repeatable on iPad Pro (1) 9.7 and iOS 10.3.3

    Am I doing something wrong?

Might be a 10.3.3 thing, working OK on my first gen 9.7 Pro under 11.0.3.

Weird. I'm on 10.3.3 iPad 9.7. Doesn't hang for me.

  • @midiSequencer hi, that + setting that’s supposed to play/stop all parts at once doesn’t work for me. Didn’t work before. Doesn’t work after recent update. Doesn’t work after delete reinstall. Sometimes it’ll work briefly, but mostly not. iPad 10.5 ios11.0.3

  • When you say “all parts” do you mean parts within one rack? Because that’s what it’s for, not for starting all racks together. For starting racks together you need to go to setup and set Ableton Link Start to Phase for each part.

  • edited October 2017

@wim all 4 parts in one rack. I’ve been trying to get it to work since launch. Doesn’t work like it does in his videos. Often I can’t get any of the parts to play except A.

  • Anyone confirm that chords aren't responding to velocity setting since update.

  • edited October 2017

@midiSequencer I think I figured out what the issue was. The default setting for Seq Sync is set to Master. After switching setting to Slave or None, it functions as expected. Curious... why is the default set to Master?

  • Ah I can see the looptunes app updating the fader lights - so yes its possible. Will need to buy one of these :)

Like the three function controls - turn, push & 2nd turn.

oh my god that would be lovely. native support XD. i'm actually thinking of combining my launchpads pro's user mode with the midifighter twister. already managed to hack together a rudimentary sequencer by switching the buttons to toggles and making modstep send the required notes back to the controller to get a light up the sequence. if you give us the ability to map midi notes and velocity to each steps mute/unmute and also the current sequencer position the sky is the limit with what kind of led feedback is possible : pretty sure i could mimic the push's step sequencer for upto 64 steps on the launchpad and use the 4 banks on the midifighter to assign knobs to ever step + velocity on the second turn.

  • Hello @midiSequencer, it's very nice to have Quantum in the midi filter slot of Audiobus 3 now (so I can put my usb keyboard in the midi input slot, etc.), but Quantum doesn't work as filter! No midi notes from Quantum coming through to the synth that works as midi reciever (Zeeon as AU f.i.). (iPad pro 10.5 with latest IOS). Anyone else having this problem?

  • This is a good app to build a Lemur template for......

  • @Carnbot can you share pls your lemur template?

haha, not done one yet, was hoping someone might take up the challenge :)
I know there's a way of updating step sequencers in Lemur but haven't built one yet myself.

I've only built the most basic of controllers in Lemur, so I wouldn't have a clue. Mostly, I use other's templates or some in the library that comes with it.

That being said, I haven't really got much past beginner level yet in Quantum. So, I'm likely already getting ahead of myself. ;)

Might be cooler if the lights on the MF always represented whichever sliders are on the screen. Then map 'push' on the first 10 buttons to switch between the 10 slider type buttons (note, gate, velocity...). Last 6 could be mapped to switch sequencers. Or just use the 6 side buttons to switch the slider types you use most. Push to mute step.

Also means that Quantum might only need to keep track of 16 X (note or cc or sysex) "controller out" templates. I know some of this is already in place as of 1.0. I've not tried it yet though.

And now that I've glanced over the MF manual, I want one too. That push for alternate controller message is a beauty. I do not need another MIDI controller for FFS. So thanks for that, Mr. gonekrazy. @kobamoto didn't you have one of these for sale a while back? If you still have it, PM me. We'll send the bill to gonekrazy.

    Fine :)

Cool. I tried to replicate this and couldn't (though it'd happened to me once before during beta testing). Glad you got it sorted.
