Can you mix time signatures on this?

    sort of...
At the moment there are two sets of time signatures:
    1) The song time signature affects Ableton Link - the numerator defines Quantum's bar for phase sync, so setting this to 5 will make Quantum count 5 beats before performing a phase sync.
    2) Each sequence also has a time signature, but this is only used for accents. Enable the accent and the time signature numerator will accent (increase the midi velocity) of that step.
At the moment this sequence time signature doesn't affect sync but it will do at some point.

doesn't suit those that like piano-roll or pattern based composing - but patterns are coming later, as well as midi files....

Well I like pattern based composing the most and I've fallen in love with this thing so you may just have to eat your words, sir! ;)

consider them eaten! I should reword that to say 'may' rather than 'doesn't'

@midiSequencer I LOVE ❤️ the app, and the quick reloading of the last project from the first screen!

Looking forward to the rest with a magnifying glass and stylus - kidding / not kidding. You mashed everything into such a small space (respect for bothering w the iPhone version)

Between my last couple of purchases I can finally do everything I dreamt of musically on my iPhone (yours included)

thx - when the optional re-skin comes out it should make it easier to see on smaller devices.

I think the recent 6 months has seem some exciting audio developments - I'm looking to start exploring those new synths and new ways of teasing new sounds out of them.

  • @ExAsperis99 said:
A little hazy on using multiple synths in AUM. How does the routing work? (Perennial question.)

Just load them up in the slots, send outputs to a mix bus, then put your fx on the last slot. Tap the 3 horizontal bars and enable Quantum but also turn off all midi channels from the filter and then just enable 1,2,3 etc on your slot.

It looks unusable for an iPad mini without a stencil, am I right? I might get it anyway, as long as the extensive midi control is making up for this.

I use it on a mini 4, no stylus and it’s fine. Don’t let anything about the look put you off. It’s very well thought out.

thx Angie. I'm always open to suggestions on how to improve it though - some areas need about more work and there's new panels coming like clip loading, lfo's & music scale (which is still midiSequencers)....

Just wanna pass an epic congratulations to Tony. I'm stoked to read folks are digging it. It's easy to miss when looking at a finished product just how many iterations were involved. Been on the beta team for a while and any one of the gagillion change logs that came through would make for a hefty Wikipedia entry.

thx for your help in the beta - its so complex even I'm discovering new things about it. Sometimes though I use it and it just doesn't work (musically) for me, but come back another day and I'm amazed what I can do - that's the beauty of through composition - it leads you into strange territory.

This app is also really useful to drive non-IOS synths too. Here is a track I did 7 months ago (when Quantum was called Rack Sequencer):

    From a few pages back:

Go to the iOS Settings app and find Quantum and enable Link there first.

While you're there also turn on the Midi transport control for AUM so you can control the transport in AUM from Quantum and have Funk Drummer and Quantum triggering Zeeon and playing in sync. Turn on MIDI MMC control in AUM.

  • This app goes deep, deep deep. The manuals well written. Ace!
This app will infect my dreams with crazy ideas waking me up in a cold sweat at 4am in the morning desperately reaching for my ipad to try out some never thought of madness that will start a new genre of music and will have its own weird and wonderful dance associated with it. The future will be shaped by this app, and it will be a good future.
Congratulations, Tony, I think youve made a classic

  • Nice. (Just unsure why it needs so much space on the device. Could that be optimized?)

  • It Takes only 57 MB here.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Instabought, and very happy indeed. This will be perfect for noodling things into BM3 parts and scenes.

Thanks for the interactive help, it is very handy for getting familiar with all the buttons. A good pdf is great, but the interactive help is used way more often. Hoping you find time to expand it a little when it comes to Midi FX.
Btw, I spotted a small error: the help for setting up sequence lengths say you can triple tap one area or double tap the FOR label (representing Format), but the label is actually Fmt in the app. I suppose many new users will search for this in the help, since triple tapping is not something you normally guess trying (not being used elsewhere in the app).

Feature request: long tap on the Select button to bring up a window with Selection presets. The use case would be to quickly change between different selections, and keeping the window open while also being able to move the faders and change between e.g. note and velocity. So the window could be placed where "Page 1" starts, and run the entire length horizontally - one Selection preset button for each row in the window, and horizontally you could show what the selection does (corresponding with the fader locations). Tap Selection preset button in left margin to recall that selection. Maybe long-tap it to write the current fader selections to this selection preset.

Link uses audio - for a metronome, also not everyone wants to use it.

thx - but I want to start hearing your creations - I intend to do more videos. Sometimes it won't work but often good ideas come from simple melodies copied and tweaked (transposed, played half speed say)....

Its retina graphics for those of us that have iPad pro's (bought mine a couple of weeks ago). I could optimise it but really is that such an issue? I'll keep it in mind though for when I do the modern skin.

The Fmt label used to be For so will change that & update the wording. I aim to add the midi fx & cc controllers to interactive help too..

Select is more for selecting faders (you see the All, Clear etc buttons appear) this allows you to copy & paste steps between parts or sequences. I had started working on a preset panel (like Pf panel in midiSequencer), but I'm thinking a grid of slots you can drag and drop from a (scrollable list) of available presets (read sequencer versions here) would be more use.

Failing that - the scrollable list could be utilised too....
    thx for the thought.

  • Great app really enjoying this one.

@midiSequencer hi, just picked this up last night. I’ve only had a short play so far, and like it... But I have a few questions.

    1. You did some demos with hyper fast tempo for interesting effects. quantum only goes to 240. So, it can’t perform those amazing high tempo effects? Or, am I missing a setting somewhere?

    2. Seems someone here who is a professional graphic designer, was on board to help you rework the GUI of this one. Did nothing ever come of that? This looks nearly identical to the GUI of midisequencer... A GUI that frankly, prevented me from purchasing it. Just being honest here.

    3. I only originally played with the lite version of midisequencer before I decided it might not be for me, due mostly to the interface. What are the main points that make Quantum different from midisequencer? Some here say it’s “more powerful”. How so? Just more sequences possible? Granted, I haven’t yet spent enough time with quantum yet to join the chorus of glowing opinions others have of this, but so far it seems very much similar to midisequencer.

  • Thank you!
Deep into a groove on the the first play.

Changing time signature / time division should get you there.

  • @midiSequencer - Just had a really long play and am struck with how finished this app feels and I’ve only scratched the surface. It’s so well thought out, so much fun. I know you’re going to add more stuff and people can’t help but ask for more, but this feels very complete as is.
