There is an awful lot of empty space here, again. :| KASPAR!....I’m sorry but this app is Kaspar’s synth engine with new clothes and some upper harmonics on the oscillators. That intro paragraph on their site...mmmmm B) But honestly who cares. It’s a VA with some cool features for an insanely low price that is also an AU.

Yeah I’m definitely getting the vibe of Kasper, but stripped back to basics there does seem some differences. It may be minimal, but there is some tweaks to the sound engine.

I think the main differences are the add ons and the interface. I find this nicer to use than Kasper without a doubt.

Yeah it’s a decent VA with some uninspired presets, but for the price of less than a shop bought coffee! So spoilt are we lol

Does Kauldron have a global tuning option in settings?

    Yup

Nice speedy response! Great, thank you!

    Not available outside UK?

Doh...Doesn't show up in app store search on iOS device. Had to search on computer and forward link to iPad. Weird.

  • Peeps - try init this synth and Kasper. Now make sure there are none of the extra bits on at all, such as extra layers in Kasper or the maximiser in Kauldron. Try to get the volumes about equal for both in their settings.

Now mess about with the low pass filters in Kasper. Can you get the sound of Kauldron? I’m finding a preference to Kauldron over any of Kaspers low pass filters.

So, while under the hood, these are no doubt running on similar engines, I have no doubt there are some tweaks between them. It does sound more VAesque than Zeeon which still has more of that Ompfh we think of with analog synths of yore.

  • I like it. Could have a tape delay considering Yonac's ToneStack selection of nice tape delays or bucket brigade delays but the sound is pretty good in my opinion and the maximizer module is similar to to the Unison module in Animoog, it smoothly resolves when the drift/detune is turned all the way, I love that type of unison.

  • If nothing else, this must down as bargain of the month!

If only I could buy it :|

Cannot find in UK store, cannot get through Doug's link (US Store)....gives me purchase option at least, lets me press buy, but then nothing :|
Serious issues with the store today

Yeah the store is shit today. I had to contact Apple and get them to sort my Odessa out as it was showing as purchased in my purchases, but was not on my download list and still showing the price on the app in store!

But hey, it’s a pisser when you want to buy something and it won’t let you!

    Bought.

Would love to see a button/toggle to disable ALL FX on main page....... feature request, pretty please. ;) :#

  • Send Kaspar through these settings 100% wet with a couple of detuned saw waves and a bit of OSC drift and you’ve got Kauldron. I’m not saying they carbon copied the guts of Kaspar. They definitely added more sizzle and harmonics (thankfully). But on the surface, just prowling the preset banks in each synth there is virtually no difference. At least not the kind of difference they claim in their marketing copy. But again, that’s not to say it’s a “bad” sound. I’ve gotten hundreds of useable presets out of the friendly ghost and I expect the same out of Kauldron.

  • Bought it through Sir Doug's link.
Will give it a workout tonight.

I thought that might be the case and a way to keep synths cheap by recycling. Not too keen on buying the same thing in a new wrapper but still tempted by the spawner. :)

Yah, pretty sure I can get five bucks of random spawn button fun out of it.

Yeah agree much similarities in sound, yet you can’t tweak the interface, so while you may be able to get similar sound, you will most likely feel a leaning towards one or the other.

That’s one of the things with having many synths to try on iOS. While you may get away with only using a few for the sounds you need, the differences in interface will no doubt send many people off in different directions.

I suppose much of this discussion of differences is mute anyway. It’s almost rude not to buy it at this price lol

  • @brice they ALL sound the same doing that!

Of course i must ask that.....how does it the audio rate thing f.e. compared to Zeeon or Model 15?
I mean can i do a saxophone patch too with it :) Mostly one of the first thing i test together with vowel effects trough filter modulation.

    Oscillator 3 can't be used as a modulator :(

    AAARRRGH!

Gotta watch Doug's video on this one. I'm tempted at that price point, but I definitely don't need another Kaspar that I don't use kicking around....

Kouldron feels more usable as AUv3 than Kaspar for some strange reason.
900 presets so there must be something worth the effort to dig them thru :D

Kauldron feels more useable than Kasper to me full stop lol. It’s funny how a layout can make a major difference.

Well, being 3 osc instead of 24, 4 mod slots instead of 48, and so on. Actually a single Kaspar layer is deeper than kauldron. No surprise it feels better in a tiny window.

Kauldron has a full screen AU interface. Kasper seems not to have this feature yet.

  • It sounds good, has a very simple interface and costs $4. Done.

There's a lot to be said for a synth that gets you bread and butter sounds quickly.

All synths sound the same doing that? Ohhhhh we cant open that door! :o Let’s just agree that you’re 100% wrong? Cool? :)

It would be a really sad sax my friend. It doesn’t appear there are any tools or combos to get up in the needed ranges :|

  • Kauldron is universal. Kaspar is iPad only. Just that is woth the 4 bucks for me.

I need glasses.....this really read as something else lol

  • Well, i can’t pass up 4 dollars....

  • Can individual notes be tuned, or is there scala import? I'm not buying any more synths that I can't tune.
