I know, I know. The damn devil on my shoulder is whispering "Only $4..." in my ear. I may not make it through the day. Wish me luck!
Live in uk AppStore now it seems
Wether I press purchase or not depends lol but I might cause the icon looks original
Ok - I watched Doug's demo and I gotta be honest: it doesn't sound like Kauldron is giving me anything I can't get from Kaspar. Sounds VERY similar, and while the feature set (including Spawn) looks like it's to die for, I just can't justify yet another Yonac synth I don't use. I've got Magellan, Kaspar and MiniSynthII and I hardly ever fire them up.
I'm not one to rain on the parade here, so don't let my opinion spoil the party.
Here's your challenge - prove me wrong and try and separate me from my $4!
Na, you’re probably right. Save your money. While I kinda like it over Kasper and Magellan is not AU, it really doesn’t give me anything I can’t do with many other synths. Just got it cos it’s cheap and now I’ve found it a bit of fun
Yeah, the price point is really hard to ignore despite my hesitation.... thanks for the honesty. I'll monitor throughout the day (of course) and see how the other folks feel. I have Odessa to mess with in the meantime, and I just picked up Axon 2 on Friday, so I've got plenty to muck with.
I'm kinda getting the same reaction. $4 is hard to pass up, but yeah...
However, I didn't go for Kaspar... and being AU as well as universal may be enough pry the $4 from my paw in the next day or two.
Any of the Kauldron buyers, did you manage to make the sustain pedal to work? Just tried and for some reason it does not work, did I miss something?
Gave in and bought this, I like it
One thing I like about it is the comprehensive options like loading and saving midi map, something you usually have to wait ages for.
But how do you get the AU to go full screen in AUM? That's one thing which made made press the button.
Little tab in the bottom right corner. The app will resize itself when the window is made large enough
not working for me, at least not the usual way in AUM.
Might need a restart, will try that....
I wonder if Kaspar presets will open in it…being that they are so……
I guess I came back to this thread to be a dick? What an asshole. Sorry. It's a very capable synth at an unbelievable price. I guess its existence is just confusing to me. Why they felt the need to pursue building it when they've just finished something that could have potentially just housed that new Spawn thing and updated DSP. Oh well, it literally doesn't matter. And I am still a big fan of those guys at Yonac. ToneStack remains in my opinion to be the greatest all-in-one multi-effects app for drums and synths on this platform.
Don't sweat it. We all love you, and your viewpoint is among the most highly regarded on this forum. I think we all just want some more presets from you for this new thing.
Weird, still no full screen AU for me after restarting....
annoying as it works full screen in BM3
See - this is my dilemma as well. I LOVE Yonac and want to support them. Galileo is absolutely masterful. Tonestack has some incredible tones in there. Steel Guitar is a blast and is far more useful than it may initially appear. Hell - I own every app they've released prior to Kauldron, so it's nothing to slander Yonac about. They're also very supportive of the community and our boy Doug, so extra points there.
I wonder if they'd consider releasing Spawn 2 as it's own AUv3 plug-in, a-la Odessa? It could be a MIDI randomizer with assignable parameters. That would be just lovely....
I think of it in slightly different terms. Maybe due to remembering hardware days and multiple DX synths.
Think of it like this: while using similar engines, the layout and feature set make these two synths aimed at different ways of use. So like those aforementioned many DX models, these two synths can be of use to different people . I don’t particularly take to Kasper - it’s layout does not make me smile. Kauldron on the other hand does make me smile when I’m using it.
Obviously your mileage may vary, but there is little doubting the prices of lots of iOS synths means there is little point in not making multiple models to fit differing people.
You have not moved your window up enough to resize it in this pic
ok thanks, got it working now but had to go right to the edge of the screen, not the best implementation, Model 15 does it much better. Not sure I'll use it full screen until I get a 12inch as it's a bit fiddly at the moment
all in all though great value here
I honestly could never get into Kaspar so I think this will be my alternative. For $4 I’m not mad at all
I think I’m in the same boat. I didn’t even hesitate to purchase even though nothing about the teasers really excited me. But I figured a $4 AU is pretty hard to ignore and will get its use at some point. Can’t say I’m too inspired by it, but I think buying it to support while still being critical is basically giving the developers what they need to push further: money and feedback. Definitely didn’t need another vintage VA recreation, but still not mad I bought it.
Well worth the money. Sound quality is decent enough to create some really convincing sounds, and Spawn2 (especially in xpert mode) is a killer feature.
Me and my cat having lots of fun exploring it.
Exactly I wanna know please?
I caved in because it’s yonac and on sale....
Pleasantly surprised and would go as far as to say that it’s a tweakers delight.
The overall sound is very very rich if you craft it right!
The xy pads really do give a lot of subtle control for ambient work for sure.
It’s a perfect companion for zeon actually, they seem to share the same kind of vibe
I will be using this a lot!
Very well designed and a dream on iPhone. Not cramped at all
Only three fx though??
Okay quick non scientific test:
Kauldron - around 4 to 6% at rest. Mid thirties on many presets playing pressing 4 keys at once and changing these.
Phasemaker - pretty much the same results give or take.
I didn't go for Kaspar.. the sound wasn't really gelling for me. But I do have Magellan that I love (when I remember to use it)
And, when I do... I dig it's Spawn feature. How does the sound engine and new Spawn2 feature compare? (Other than being AU)
Yes, I know "it's only $4" but like most of you... I've got a boatload of synths and apps that rarely see the light of day with all the new goodies that keep coming out. Trying to be more thoughtful with my storage space and purchases these days.
IMO: judging by the presets alone, the sound generating systems are similar between Kasper and Kauldron, yet I have been able to get sounds I like from Kauldron while I haven’t bothered much with Kasper.
As for comparing to Magellan, I didn’t play with it much beyond warping a few presets, so I can’t give an informed opinion there really.
OK, so in my limited play with Kauldron so far, I think that the Ribbon keyboard layout is totally key to enchanting this thing. Assign Aftertouch to something volatile in the Mod Matrix, switch to Ribbon keys, go madly espressivo.
Some of the presets are WAY better than others . I've found some nice moving patches that sound stunningly good. I love the nice AU form like everyone else as well. So far I have not a single complaint that would keep me from paying more than twice as much money even. Thanks Yonac folks! You gave us a winner and a real cheap thrill.
Have not checked if the Ribbon keys can be used when it's an AU inside GB (Model 15's can). If so, we are in business.
