  • UPDATE: Actually, I see now that I remembered incorrectly when I said that their closed SDK does not allow me to do batch copy of several files. I'm very sorry for that misinformation, and will add batch copy for ACP2 in the next AudioShare update.

The only thing I can't do from AudioShare is to display the items in my own UI (instead of embedding theirs) and allow deleting of items, but their embedded UI does allow the user to delete items already. So we can live with that :)

And yes, batch copy and keeping several items in the pasteboard does need their app installed, but only works on iOS7.

Just to clarify:do i need to OPEN their audiocopy app if i copy multiple files from one to another ACP 2 app?Not sure if i have two ACP 2.0 apps to test em....mmmh,guess yes.Have to try,see you later ;-)

  • I looked at this app and for me it's AudioFail 2.0. AudioShare is my standard to share audiofiles. I hope more apps will include the sdk.

  • I think negative reviews is a great idea. On my way.

  • @Crabman: That should be possible yes, without opening their app. It should happen in the background. But it seems it does open the first time used!

I just tried copying 3 files after each other in AudioShare, and then opening their ACP2 app, and all items shows up there. However, pressing the "preview" button on any of the items freezes their app...

No instructions are needed for AudioCopy. If an app supports it, it will handle everything for you just like Sonoma. Let's say I choose audio copy a file in Audioshare, and then choose ACP 2 as the destination, it will end up in AudioCopy's pasteboard (a la Sonoma). I then open Auria, or whatever app supporting ACP 2 you have, and chose audio paste as normal. The AudioCopy app will then auto launch and stay in the background, and you'll get a ACP 2 list (which replaces the brown and green Sonoma list) with all available audio files available for pasting inside the app you're currently in.

I deleted the audio file from the General Paste board with Audioshare, since it doesn't seem to work properly in AudioCopy. Pressing preview inside AudioCopy on the GP after will then crash it. So a few kinks to work out

Before everyone gets out the torches and pitchforks, @j_liljedahl did just mention that ACP2 batch copy and deletion will be possible after all from within Audioshare.

The only outstanding issue appears to be his objection to the marketing, which to be fair is more of a personal issue. In comparison, we don't automatically come down hard on new guitar apps or synths just because we already have favourites, regardless of the marketing hyperbole in iTunes.

Of course disliking ads or the functionality of the app itself are perfectly valid criticisms, but personally I'm not going to rush to give a 1 star review just because everyone else is.

  • Thanks ChrisG, I have both of those apps. Going to go test it out.

  • @j_liljedahl

    So, You stated:

    • The Sonoma SDK was open source, which made it possible for AudioShare to implement deleting items on the pasteboard as well as batch copy a bunch of file at once. These features are now impossible to implement for me, since retronyms keeps the new SDK closed source.

So is AudioShare still going to be able to delete items on the pasteboard, or will the new SDK by Retronyms be preventing this?

    • ACP2 only supports 16 bit 44.1kHz linear PCM format. Doesn't Audioshare open this up quite a bit? What is allowed with AudioShare?

    • I HATE advertisements. Will I need to see this when using ACP2, or will I only have to see that crap when opening up the actual ACP2 app?

I just want to make sure I fully understand everything before I jump the gun and fire off a comment and rating. :-)

    Thanks!

  • This app seems like it's essentially an inferior clone of AudioShare, albeit with support for batch copying of files, and it's free.

So now devs will have to implement Sonoma's ACP for those running iOS 6, plus Retronyms' ACP2 for those on iOS 7. Really convenient, yeah?

  • @busker Thanks for being level headed. I want to be fair too. I don't like bullies though, and if Retronyms is being a bully, I'll fight about it. If they aren't though, I'll shut my mouth. :-)

  • @PHANTASM There are actually 3 ways to implement things, because AudioShare has a way to do it too. :-)

  • @Audiojunkie: Yes, but few devs implement the AudioShare SDK, unfortunately.

What's preventing AudioShare from becoming THE de facto method of sharing audio files between apps on iOS is that the app isn't free. If it was, I think music app devs would find supporting it a high priority, since everyone would be using it.

  • "I HATE advertisements. Will I need to see this when using ACP2, or will I only have to see that crap when opening up the actual ACP2 app?" / Audiojunkie

For some weird and unknown reason Tabletop appears at the top of a list that is otherwise alphabetically ordered. :p A bit cheeky, but it's not in your face. What is in your face is the actual huge list, that just redirects you to the AppStore. Pleeeeasse Retronyms, hide that list in a sub menu or something

  • edited October 2013

First of all, I totally agree with @busker. My bad feelings are very much a personal issue, and you shouldn't rush to give them bad reviews just because of that. Try their thing and tell them what you think and what you want them to improve.

    Batch copy

@Audiojunkie: As I said in a previous post, my statement about not being able to do batch copy of several files at once was wrong! I'm very sorry for that, I guess it can happen when writing posts while being pissed off ;)

And to clarify: with batch copy I mean the following procedure:

    • Tap the checkbox in the upper right corner of AudioShare library view
    • Select several files
    • Swipe the toolbar to reveal the "bulk AudioCopy" button and tap it
    • All selected files will now be copied to the Sonoma pasteboard

You can still copy several items manually, one by one, (if you have their app installed)..

    Deleting items

Regarding delete, it's true that I can't delete items on their pasteboard from AudioShare. But their AudioCopy UI which shows up inside AudioShare allows that, so it only means a few more taps for the user and shouldn't be a big problem. (They should fix the generic pasteboard deletion bug, though)

    File formats

Both ACP2 and Sonoma pasteboard only works with 16 bit 44.1k internally. The generic pasteboard can hold any kind of audio file though, including MP3 and MIDI! Same goes for the AudioShare SDK export/import functions.

    Ads in ACP2

No, fortunately the ads are only shown inside a "News" section, shown when tapping the bottom bar inside their app.

@ChrisG:List is not really sorted here.Whenever i open the app i have another app at the top of the list etc.But i have Auria twice in that list :)

  • @ChrisG Thanks for the information! I agree with you. There is no reason to have listed apps which I don't even own, even if they ARE compatible. I just want a list of what is compatible ON MY MACHINE. +1 For another menu or something for the other stuff please. :-) I also won't complain about Tabletop being on the first of the list, since they develop the app (even though it is irritating). :-) I think I'll hold off on posting a rating until I've had time to evaluate everything for myself. If it's not too bad, and doesn't play dirty with @j_liljedahl then I'm OK with things. :-)

  • @PHᐃNTᐃSM: Indeed, I never wanted to compete with ACP regarding that functionality, the AudioShare SDK was made as a convenience for those users who already wanted to use AudioShare as their central soundfile hub. And you're right that AudioShare SDK could never be de facto standard while the app is not free.

One way would be to make it free with IAP's for everything but the basic file manager, and then invest in marketing to convince devs to implement the AudioShare SDK and try to replace the current pasteboard alternatives. But I don't think that would be fun, actually. I rather make more AUFX apps, and other new cool apps too :)

  • @j_liljedahl Thanks for the clarification! I guess I'll extinguish my torch and put my pitchfork away. :-)

For the record, I've posted "NO" ratings at this point good or bad regarding ACP2.0. I'll check things out carefully before I decide whether or not to give a rating. I suggest everyone else do the same too. :-)

  • @Audiojunkie That's cool.

One of the things I love about the iOS audio community is that despite people having their own personal preferences for particular apps, generally we are pretty respectful and inclusive of others opinions. Hell, we even see some 'competing' developers chiming in on the same forum post, in a constructive way.

I would hate to see this community go the way of so many others on the internet by fracturing into 'camps' where we are constantly and bitterly defending our opinions at the expense of others.

I think the best way to have an effect on the audio app market is to simply vote with your dollars: buy the apps you like, avoid the ones you don't. And don't be afraid to make feature requests to the devs if you have suggestions for improvements.

Reviews are helpful too of course, but I generally try and give a bit of time with an app so that I'm not rushing to a conclusion in the heat of the moment. I feel that constructive criticism will provide a better chance of motivating the developer to make improvements, rather than putting their back up against the wall.

  • @Jonatan check the ACP post on the ipad musician FB page.

  • @j_liljedahl I want you to know that I think VERY highly of you as a developer, and look forward to purchasing your other AUFX apps! :-)

  • @simon ...actually it is more like opening a second cafe in town and advertise it as the"first and one and only cafe in town"that made him sad a bit ;-)

  • @mgmg4871 Link please? Postings are frequent and it can be hard to find a particular post. :-)

  • Can i find this information somewhere else?I'm not in that group and i don't want to enter.I have enough to do with LEAVING facebook groups that people put me in without my permission ;-)
