That is great.
I need one of those! Now.
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned Giri/Haji upstream somewhere, but I keep returning to aspects of it weeks later which is always a great sign. If you haven't you probably should.
Girlfriend has me watching RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3 Allstars. I’m enjoying it more than I thought I would. Halfway through and I’m pretty invested.
I’ve also been rewatching Skin Wars. Body painting has always been pretty interesting to me.
That was a good one. The climactic interpretive dance scene threw me out of the world though.
@Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr
Funny world though, because I thought that was one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen
the new adam curtis doc (the guy who did hypernormalisation) is called "can't get you out of my head".
its on bbc iplayer, but also on his youtube channel. its amazing.
kind of about why the world is shit but we cant seem to change it, but told through analysis of loads of historical moments.
One more day to go for this online Japanese film festival.

Didn't like: Miracles of Namiya General Store, Great Yokai War (so bad, yet not so bad ya gotta watch it like "Story of Ricky")
Ok: Listen to the Universe, Drudgery Train, One Million Yen Girl (this does earn some points for avoiding the Love Actually ending)
Liked: Yoshino's Barber Shop, Mori The Artist Habitat
Loved, totally recommend: Sakuren, Hush!
In progress : The Actor
I loved that. Reminded me of Hal Hartley's film Amateur where for no particular reason the entire cast line dance to Dirty Thing by Sonic Youth.
The Expanse (Amazon Prime Video). Only a handful of episodes in but I like it. Amazon carries a lot of crap content but they do have some quality shows.

I was looking at the list and it was weird. A lot of films I would expect to be on it weren't, while there were others that are not particularly good. If you're going to pick a Hirokazu Kore-eda film, why choose Air Doll? Takishi Miike has directed 130 films or something, why pick that one?
Good questions. I got the link to these films from someone who really only cared about one film - just one film - out of that entire list: Sakuren.
I can see why.
Really? Loved it. Both seasons. But I’m admittedly a Star Wars nerd.
Yes yes yes. Does everything good sci-fi should do and then some. The belter’s patwah can be a little hard to stomach at times but pretty much every single other aspect of the series makes up for it.
Oh yeah, I finished the latest season of Expanse. I didn't enjoy it as much as earlier seasons but I got the sense that it's all setup for the following season, whenever that comes.
Thnx for mentioning that this is already on his youtube, I had assumed it wouldn't be yet and badly want to watch it. I'm not in the UK and iPlayer can detect now when you try to use a UK vpn to watch it, so iplayer was not an option. Looking forward to it!
This should prolly be in the "listening" thread but it's not exactly music so... On Spotify, there's an amazing audio documentary (disguised as podcast) entitled "Stay Free: The Story of The Clash". It's in eight ~40 minute episodes and it's incredibly well put together.
That should be enough but there's "one more thing" worth mentioning: the entire symphony is narrated by Chuck D. I don't think their story will ever be better presented. Check it out before Spotify goes the way of RKO.

Same. And fingers crossed, same.
Anyone know if American Horror Story season 4 and up is on its way to any streaming service? Amazon got season 1-5 but not the rest
Finally started Season 2 of The Boys. Too early to say much about it.
Just watched King Rocker, a docu by Stewart Lee about Robert Lloyd and The Nightingales. Thanks @JohnnyGoodyear for the nudge in the OT: Observation thread. It is very good in a I’m-a-Guinness-swilling-gorilla-and-I’ll-do-what-the-fuck-I-want kind of way. Quotes from it:
Stewart Lee: “We live in a culture where mediocrity is rewarded and originality and integrity is punished.”
Robert Lloyd: “I always used to think that when I peg it, all of a sudden people would buy the records and pretend they liked us all along. But I’m beginning to worry that what if I peg it and they still don’t buy the records.”
This gem is out soon. Can’t wait. Am expecting it to be exhilarating and sad:

The new 6-part Adam Curtis documentary, Can't Get You Out Of My Head. All on youtube, totally free, as someone mentioned here before. Well worth a watch. His bricolage style takes some getting used to, and it may take repeat viewings before you see how everything fits together, but it's an absolutely fascinating and essential watch.
I just read the synopsis of the series, and it sounds absolutely fantastic.
Thanks for the heads up!
A Bittersweet Life
A haunting masterpiece of Zen and destruction...
Thank you. And thanks Chuck. I'm in the middle of long rows, this is perfect.
As long as you don't mind doing a bit of your own cognitive sense making to tie everything together you will love it. Let me know what you think!
For the benefit of those who aren't familiar, this is basically a 6 part 8 hour long documentary telling the story of how the world has changed since the 2nd World War through glimpses into the lives of an array of people including Tupac's mum, the guy who started the conspiracy theory about the illuminati, and chairman mao's wife Jiang Qing. Quite a trip!
Amazon Prime: Samurai Cat
The weird little thing I never new I needed in these weird times.
Any bicycle race. Very good.
‘This Is Us’ is one of the best series I’ve ever seen.
Also just started Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’ and it’s really good so far.
