Too busy using it to make killer beats!
Recently I've been using it quite a bit. I like it either midi-synced to external hardware, or I use its excellent export to copy patterns to GarageBand.
Wait a second, is it possible to export patterns as midi files? I couldn’t find that option. Or do you just import audio to GarageBand?
I absolutely love Patterning 2.
It's probably my most used app since I got it.
Actually pulled this up today for the first time in what felt like years. Still works.
I have found myself using Groovebox more for creating random drum patterns.
I had a project the other week with a deadline and used Patterning for the first time ‘in anger’ as it were. Really good but never the first app I look to for some reason.
Me too. I probably use it most often for sequencing external hardware.
Patterning and Patterning 2 are awesome--and straightforward enough that a lot of discussion isn't needed. So,after the initial conversations before and after release, there hasn't been a lot of need, I guess , for ongoing conversations?
At least for me, nothing in Patterning 2 is enough to change Patterning.
In standalone mode only use Quantum / Audulus / SunVox.
Since Patterning 2 is only IAA and not Auv3, I don’t have any arguments to use it.
I’d love an AUv3 version, for sequencing other drum synths inside AUM
You can use Patterning 2 to sequence your other drum synths in AUM as it is. Maybe one or two more taps are required than if it were AUv3...and it exists. Getting some complex apps to work as AUv3 while maintaining their stability and their full feature set is not always realistic..not to consider whether or not the required additional development time would generate significant revenue.
superdope, looking forward to better sample editing features, and multiple pattern rings
Patterning was the reason I bought an iPad.
Patterning 2 just made it all that better!
It's my fav most used app for sure.
That and elastic drums
Me too 😊
Good points. Nevertheless, if Patterning 2 was remade as an AUv3, I would buy it again.
Hosting AUv3 could be nice too.
I don't really think patterning needs to be an auv3, I love auv3 trust me, but to use patterning as a drum machine it's perfect as is imo.
Sometimes I'll load up patterning 1 and 2 to get more sounds..
Wouldn't complain if it was an auv3 but, I'm totally good with it as is
The great thing with Patterning 2 when sequencing external sound sources (be they AUv3's on the same device or external sound generators) is that it adds minimal latency itself. Therefore it's an IAA device where you can be confident that latency compensation only has to be managed at the sound source.
I think this is one of the reasons it's a very popular tool in live setups, sequencing a mix of external hardware devices with iOS sound generation sources.
I'm experimenting with Patterning 2 used in tandem with Octachron as they each excel in nuanced ways. Really enjoying using them with Elastic Drums and the Ruismaker suite of percussion tools. Patterning 2 seems a more natural fit for Ruismaker Noir, whereas Octachoron fits more naturally with Ruismaker and Ruismaker FM. Such a pity that Elastic Drums doesn't have individual IAA audio channels/ports (much like Patterning itself) as I'd love to process ED with better effects than it's native ones. Obviously Auv3 would be even better, but not sure if that's even on the roadmap.
It's also worth mentioning the polymeter/polyrhythm capabilities of Patterning. I don't think anything else matches the flexibility of Patterning. Many other tools offer polymeter/polyrhythm workflows but Patterning is the tool where I feel I'm able to explore the possibilities more fluidly. The visual feedback loop is probably a large part of it's appeal for me. It reminds me of the the 252e Buchla Polyphonic Rhythm Generator. And being a Buchla geek, that's another major tick in my book!

But what if it could host AUv3? That could be nice.
That would be absoblutley elegant lol
I wouldn't mind loading a compressor and other effects right into individual channel's / patterns within patterning 2
Even if it hosted iaa I could use aufx with it
Just the audio.
I don’t see the need when it has midi out. Lotta work, potential for instability, and ongoing maintenance.
Hosting AU might be a bit much, but as an AU it would absolutely rock. But I think the dev has already said his piece on the matter. Honestly the only drum machine I open that isn’t AU is future drummer. But that’s because I’m just jamming and not looking for a lot of control and just want good sounds and the ability to place them where I need in the pattern. Patterning 2 is a million times more flexible and powerful though. There probably isn’t a better drum machine overall.
Patterning 2 is the best drum thing I've ever used and I've used a lot, hardware and software..
Next up is probably a tie between elastic drums and polyplex from native instruments... When it comes to drum machines as good as these one instance is enough... Chaining patterns into songs fills that gap of having to switch screens to access the app
My biggest iOS wish is to get Patterning 1 or 2 as a universal app (or even a separate iPhone version, I'll pay again)
Man, to have it on my iPhone would be magic
Patterning unlikely to ever go auv3... but I sure hope the circular design is not patented because that concept in an auv3 is just too cool. Hopefully another dev can pursue it.
yeah, can't wait to get it on the phone as well
+100 for midi export. For the life of me just don’t understand why it is not implemented.
