I have Patterning v1.. I haven't used it that much yet. But how can I program a new pattern while another is playing? I want switch to the new pattern when I'm done programming it.. Is this possible with version 1, or else with version 2?

+100 for midi export. For the life of me just don’t understand why it is not implemented.

You can actually record MIDI on Cubasis but I found the timing far from being tight.

One way you could do this is run both P1 and P2, like two turntables, and send them to separate outs using Aum or Ape or Ab3, so you could have a monitor for the one you are working on. That would actually be a pretty cool way to use the two, I might have to give that a try...

My big squeaky wheel demand since P1 days, is to be able to have more sort by tools in my main song file browser. @benkamen ? Can we get this some day?

  • Oh and users, is there a way to clear the drum kit designations for all patterns? Or do you have to select a different kit on each pattern one at a time to change them all to a different kit?

I don’t really use cubasis mainly use gadget and GarageBand. If only those two could record midi from patterning that would be awesome :)

No polyphony setting or same sample choke groups. Too much to ask 😄😔

:D too much work to implement it seems... maybe in patterning 3 next year otherwise which features to look forward paying for :#

Korg Gadget can record midi from patterning... turn on midi out for each of the 8 sounds in the preferences..

Lack of same sample choke groups is a shame.

Different than choke off 1 and 2?

For the two choke groups that are there, not sure how priority is given when samples land on the same beat, if it picks which note is highest velocity, seems like it favors the lowest instrument number (channel 1 over 2 etc...).

Just to clarify, I am talking about if I have a long cymbal crash and I want to trigger it twice but not have it overlap itself on the same track. So that when the second crash hits it truncates the first crash. Like the 'monophonic' mode in Egoist.

Ah yes, got it now... Like BM3 has in its sampler settings. Seems easy enough to add.

How I do that now is just with the 'decay' in the pencil mode, just set the decay shorter in the one before the one you want to cut it... Its an extra step, yes, but achieves the same result.

This way of pseudo 'param locks' is why I like the app so much, you get a very unique 'sculpted' feel to rhythms that I haven't found anywhere else.

Yep this. Also, load a breakbeat (or any rhythmic sample) and want to repeat it before the end of a loop but not have the first trigger to overlap the second. Pretty basic stuff.

Actually, for Breakbeats I'd set decay all the way down and just use 'hold' in the pencil section, not quite as simple as cut by self, but it works...

What is cool about this is you could have a short or long pause before the next one, or slight overlap etc...

Last time I tried decay on a long-ish sample (just this morning) I just could not get it to crop the sample. Will be trying again later.

  • I'm working on a Patterning 2 ep at the moment. I too wish certain features had been added like the ones mentioned above. I really like triggering the discs to activate different patterns and wish the disks were available on the main pattern and mixer screens, (which I've relayed to the dev months and months ago.) Having AU and the ability to play more than one disc at a time would be great but because it's a sample based app I doubt that will happen. Nevertheless for techno and experimental ambient stuff it's pretty interesting what you can get out of it.

here is the thread to feature request on Github for monophonic / non overlapping samples.
If we show more interest maybe it will be implemented

Gotta love your persistence! When I get back to working on my apps full time I'll take this on... right now I'm doing some other work full time and have very little time to dedicate to the apps :(

Nice! So glad you’ll be picking it up again once you’ve made some dough, Love Patterning 2!

  • Am I totally missing a way to control stuff in AUM via Patterning 2 MIDI Out? I thought I saw someone say something about it but I can't locate the info.

Each layer in the pattern has the ability to play audio, audio&MIDI or MIDI, select a channel and destination, and midi note. Thay way you can experiment with polyrithmic notes.

Also can send CCs using track layers.

I knew about the MIDI out part, just not how to route it into AUM. Fantastic!

Is there an easy way to migrate Patterning1 data to Patterning2?

    Yes.

    Database
The DATABASE menu is available on the FILE page, and is used to create or import a manual backup of Patterning’s database, including all songs, patterns, samples, and drum kits. You can use this option to import your entire Patterning 1 database into Patterning 2.
Importing a database will replace the current database, deleting all of your current data and replacing it with the imported database. It will NOT merge the two databases. Only use this option if you know what you are doing.
When exporting a database in either version of Patterning, the database will be saved to iTunes File Sharing as a folder named backup.patterningDatabase. This entire folder must be copied, unmodified, into the iTunes File Sharing folder for Patterning 2. After moving the folder, open up Patterning 2 and select Database > Import Database.
It may take a minute to copy the database. After importing, you will need to quit and restart Patterning 2. When re-launching Patterning 2, the load time may be significant, as it will need to update the database to match the current app database model.

    PS. Whoot!

I’m not seeing the Database import/export wording in Patterning 2’s File menu now? I don’t see it anywhere else either. How to export a database backup now? Just through the Files app?
    Thanks...

  • Anyone? Am I the only one who needs to back up Patterning 2?

  • Hat likes to show on my iPad Air 2, iOS 12.4.2.

  • WTF, that's interesting.

The problem is exactly as Wim demonstrated. With an Air 3, iOS 13.1.2.

  • As wim described for me too. Original iPad Pro, 12.9, iOS 13.1.2. Patterning 2 updated 10/4/10
