You will need an unofficial software called Refill Unpacker.
How is Stockholm Rex navigation? Can you hear the file before import?
It is fun the new Gadget, but for all intensive purposes I could do what it does with the existing Gadgets for my style.
I wish that Kaossilator pads or other more useful things than this Gadget.
The last 2 or 3 "IAP" upgrades have been disappointing.
IT SEEMS NOVATION AND KORG ARE IN A RACE FOR WHO CAN IGNORE THEIR USER BASE MORE IN DESIGNING THEIR APPS
+1
When importing from Dropbox there’s a play icon next to it (similar to the sample gadgets). But when pressed I get the spinning wheel and nothing happens.
Actually, I wonder if this is Propellerhead's first Toe Dip" into iOS arena? They were advertising Programmers for iOS for them a while ago. Wonder if Reason Mobile would be made into a reality, rather than a Fantasy?.... Who knows?... We have Thor & Figure, now this...…
AudioShare is unable to read them too. As Stockholm doesn’t seem able to create Rex files from wav/aiff, and can’t provide Rex audio preview, I really don’t see their point here. It’s a no go for me!
Abu Dhabi do almost exactly the same slicing stuff, and at least you can preview audio files in AudioShare before import.
So if I have Reason with Octo Rex Player, I can't use sounds from it?
It’s a such a pain that gadget is closed like a prison. I don’t really want to bury my money into gadget. But if would have the promise that KORG is actually onto something (AU opening of all gadgets for instance), i would gladly throw my bucks to them... I bought Rex because of all the files I have, but For all the rest I am hesitating... it’s to closed for a AU<3 future
With Refill Unpacker you should be able to to unpack refills and then use Rex files outside Reason.
I'm still hoping for Europa by Reason for iOS, both stand-alone and AUv3 and if we get lucky a Gadget too.
File/Sample management in Gadget could use an overhaul with Files.app support for starters...
Would make batch importing REX and WAV files a breeze (just drop them in the Gadget folder under on my iPad once Files.app support is enabled).
just tried to compare vancouver apollo reverb on version 3.5 vers 3.6 using same sound and levels.
I’m not convinced they have ‘fixed’ anything. on the newer version the high frequencies maybe have a longer attack and build up slower. The freeze function is the thing that sounds different to me. though both versions are still too loud if you freeze early in the tail. with the older version you could build up sounds like a Tanpura by playing around freezing then unfreezing, has ( or had ) some nice lower frequencies. newer version sounds different somehow.. more metallic perhaps?? i think i prefer the old version but nothing to whinge about..
maybe the fix was actually in the mixdown rendering of the Apollo??
Just so I've got this clear: REX files can only be created in Reason or ReCycle on the desktop — correct? There's no other way?
This gadget looks like a lot of fun but if I can't use my own samples, my interest in it is severely diminished. I like to use my own weird noises.
Did they name it after the city or the syndrome, do you think?
If I recall correctly the Propellerheads HQ is located in Stockholm
I think ReBirth was the first app that was made by another group, but Propellerheads brought out the rights maybe wrong.
ReBirth for iOS was was made/ported by Retronyms.

Yeah, Files support is fundamental by now. Especially now with all the audio import gadgets we have.
Also NOT pleased with the cpu heat/battery issue not being addressed. With every update I have some hope for that
I do enjoy Stockholm . Having fun with crazy (automized) manipulation. Inspiring to switch between different loops, etc. The different filters are cool for weird perc-synth lines.
Some of the loops in “Tops” category are good for adding some ‘groove’ to the drum gadgets.
Hi Samu thanks for clearing that up, I couldn’t remember who it was remember the app very well.
No probs, I still have ReBirth installed on my Air 2 and it works fine under iOS11.4.1
Agree with every bit of this.
Hmm... just found out that my Samples from Mars collection includes Rex files. Darn it.
Agreed. A DAW that don't support AU hosting days are numbered. Also insular environments like gadget (no audio in?) or garageband (no audio out?!) seem very janky/poorly developed in audiobus/auv3 app environment. We need our apps to work together. I dont think they understand this point. It's very weird
How does this benefit anyone?
Hi there, I was wondering: aside all this hype around this rex gadget, doesn’t SECTOR load rex files, too? because why wouldn’t it - i don’t know
Ah, forgot about that one, & I still got on my iPad...... Yep, your right....
Sector is awesome. One thing Stockholm does that Sector doesn't do is you can switch (combine) between 8 loops at the same time. I don't think it can do it polyphonically, but by messing about with the note destination knob you can get some really glitchy (in a good way) results.
Can anyone confirm that Sector imports Rex files?
After some web investigation it looks like the Rex format is proprietary and the ONLY way to create your own Rex files is to buy Recycle for $99 or Reason for who knows how much.
I think that’s an important consideration for anyone deciding to purchase Stockholm or not.
If I’m wrong on the above - I’d love someone to correct me!
I own Gadget on a Mac so I’ve had a play. And I went and bought an £8 pack on Loopmasters with 100 or so Rex files to try out.
My bottom line on this is:
it’s quite specialist. You could do almost as much with Abu Dhabi unless you are really, really into this kind of sample chopping kind of music / workflow. In which case it might offer something more.
if you have reason / recycle or loads of great Rex files it probably worth £10 if you’re a Gadget user
I found that you can import Rex files one by one. But also if you have a Mac with an iCloud folder that Gadget uses (I do) then you can batch drop all your Rex files in there. However there’s still no way of previewing before you load into Stockholm.
The ‘synth’ part of Stockholm is quite interesting. You can assign an LFO (inc 2 random waveforms) to either osc (sample) pitch, filter cutoff or pan. You can also automate almost all the functions in the synth screen. And you have some flexibly over what the mod wheel and velocity effects (eg the filter, env ammount etc).
So... if you hooked up to a midi controller carefully. Or you did a few passes in Gadget modulating different things, you could end up with a pretty unique sounding ‘beat’ fairly quickly. With the right source material loaded in (see above) that would be pretty cool.
I guess think Blockswave, Sector, Reslice or that Sugarbytes one with the robot on (I forget its name). If you like those, you’ll like this!
I just wish I could create my own Rex files. But I don’t think I’m willing to spend another £100 on that privilege!
If anyone knows how I could get Reason Lite to create Rex files then please let me know because I reckon I must have a licience for this with various Korg midi controller purchases I’ve made in the past (eg Nanokeystudio) if I can find the box!
No sector can not import Rex files.
oh maaan, what a bummer!
Thank you
Even as kind as some people are, it seems a hard time to be really gushing about this release
and "upgrade"......lulz
After sitting on it a night.
I feel that this was nothing more than cross promotional sales techniques with a truly rudimentary approach.
It is a shame more time, thought, and ambition wasn't put into making Gadget a better rounded music platform that filled the needs still identified by its users.
But to release a Gadget centered upon a file matrix that the majority of iOS music makers really don't use seems ....... wtf
I don't even know.
I am a sarcastic big mouth with always something to say, and I am just over this.
Moving on.
Stockholm Syndrome, not my cup of tea.
Not going to be a hostage to this hype.
And oh,
BWW: Take AliPoopa and shove it up your ass why you are at it. We are all not that stupid of what that is all about either. Duh.
The gig is up. Korg and Reason.
Poorly executed by two great companies.
Yes, vented.
