  • It'd be great to see some reduced price for previous FF owners, but I don't feel like I'm owed that. I bought them knowing that they only worked in Auria, and that's exactly what they do. To have AU functionality, I'm going to be okay with paying again. It'll still be cheaper than the desktop versions that I've also paid for.

haha, the one complaining was me

But in case anyone was thinking there would be a 'special deal' this response tells you otherwise.

That's exactly how I read it. For those of us who bought any FF plugins for Auria, we got exactly what we paid for (great plugins for Auria). And they're going to continue to support the Auria versions so.... I mean, I certainly would not complain if they could work out some way to offer a crossgrade discount or something but a) Apple makes that really hard and b) why should they do that? Nothing has changed since the day I bought my last FF plugin and devs gotta eat too.

    Yes they do.

And, as another way of looking at it (and as much as I want a deal like the next guy) if you gave me a choice: Hey you want the opportunity to buy some of the Fabs as AUs or would you prefer no? I would prefer yes.

Yep, this is great news for the platform whatever the pricing deal.

And I’ve spent my share in Auria, don’t feel like I’m owed anything.

No idea if they'll choose to do this, but the Sugarbytes versions purchased within Auria work outside of Auria, and after the last AUv3 update to Turnado everything got cross updated. So, I think it’s likely doable.

This is why I haven’t purchased any new FF over the last couple rounds of sales... I just knew this day was coming.

I only own 4 of theirs in Auria. If I had to repurchase as AU, I don’t think I’d replace them all. I rather like love Auria and don’t mind using them there or routing into Auria from AUM for round trip use. It’s not that big a deal.

If I repurchased any at all, I’d likely wait for a sale and would likely only repurchase Timeless 2 and Pro-Q2 as AUs.

    +1 TM that one....

  • OMG This is amazing I bet they will be priced the same as in Auria

  • I wonder if they’ll release Twin 2 as AU too?

I thought my wife said I was artistic once, over time I have realised she meant autistic.

    Same deal for important/impotent. :*

    Maybe a little cheaper?

  • So, I guess it worked out for me not buying Auria yet. I know I eventually will get Auria Pro, but now I can skip the fab filters and just get the AU version and use them on everything. I tend ot stay in AUM anyway.

As for the App Store yeah it’s a mess. They should add upgrade paths or do something different. The whole IAP model is ridiculous for most music app features, unless it’s just Sample Pack A or something like that. Sunrizer gets a major free update at no cost and people bought that 5-6+ years ago? Zeeon goes up in price shortly afterward, no major upgrade yet, and is almost a year old. It’s a strange way of doing software upgrades. I’m on the iOS train though, it’s the only computer I use for music, unless you count managing files elsewhere. As it gets mores serious for more people they are going to have to change the App Store to better reflect serious apps. I’d be kind of bummed if I bought these Fab Filters a month ago or two and had to buy them again.

+1 to all that. Including the month ago pain.

  • @Tovokas : Great point

  • iOS app are cheap. Sometimes too cheap. But I really wonder if they could pull off charging what they charged in the Auria shop. That would make them almost as expensive as DAWs. Would Auria purchasers feel cheated if they’re half as expensive? Or would you consider it better since you wouldn’t have to pay double to use them as AUs? I’m just as eager to get my hands on these, but I find myself having a hard time shelling $30-$40 each. But maybe that’s a good thing? Should be a serious investment after all...

  • Simple:
Two for five bucks or all for ten

  • As this seems to have already been turned into an iOS v Desktop pricing discussion (to some extent), I thought I’d add my two cents (see what I did there).

As more devs like FabFilter start bringing their pro plugins to our cosy little platform, we have to be prepared to pay more than the £/$3.99 we have been spoiled with up to now. If the platform is going to grow and develop as a serious music production offering, then prices will have to rise. As the platform grows and the prices rise, so more plugin devs will join the wagon train.

Those of us who paid 69p for Animoog back in the day can look back with fond memories, but we can also look forward to very exciting times ahead. And less money in our bank accounts.

Once i seen one of my producer friends use them on a hit record i was hooked bought them when I could and i Love them cant mix without them so Im geeked they will be AUv3

  • Groovy. Hopefully they deal with the tiny interface problem in Auria though.

  • If it's iphone compatible I'd gladly pay for it

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Personally I will probably pass on the AU versions. I do all my mixing in Auria anyway, so I don't really need them outside of that environment. And I really hope that any future plugins they make will still be released as Auria native since they still have the significant advantage of running far more efficiently than AUs.

It would be awesome to see other desktop developers follow suit though. Waves, Valahla, PSP etc.

FF AU versions of Pro-L and R would certainly bring my tablet use a significant step ahead of simple recording.
Just tried out AU automation in Ferrite with solo-freezing parts via Audioshare, because in Ferrite it's either all (too much screen estate) or no automation tracks visible.
But solo the respective track, send the mixdown to Audioshare, rename it and send it back to Ferrite was a quick action. Deleted the original and imported the processed file in it's place.
(of course one can do all of that within Auria Pro, but for my use automation entry is more efficient and precise in Ferrite - there's a dedicated track for each parameter you tweak, so everything is displayed neatly one below the other)

Hmmm. That's good to know. I bought Ferrite and then have always wondered why I wouldn't just use Auria for podcasting....

  • I would love me some FF Pro-R as AUv3 but i guess it´s iPad only.
Pricing? Yes, always 2 sides here. For an app that might be expensive but if it got all the features of the plug-ins they are still cheap compared to the desktop plug-ins. But this also let me bring in this border in my brain where i think why should i pay 10 times more for a plug-in.
So "too" cheap prices are maybe really not good in a longer term since it could cut sales for desktop versions and/or people still will be used to everything must be for a dollar or free.
But then there are still no proper demos to test if a plug-in really works out and for a 20-40+ dollar app that might be not good.
I would actually prefer it on iOS even for maybe the half price of the plug-ins since i already have everything covered elsewhere on mac with for me better tools in terms of reverb and synths. There other tools belongs for sure to the best available but not that much better that comes with Logic today.
On iOS there is still room for these as AUv3 for sure.

  • They confirmed same prices as Auria and no crossgrade possibilty.
