    USB-C to 3.5mm. Its $9 USD

  • My mac mini is the best buy I made. iPad mini4 was great too.

I just hope that standard USB-C dongles work. I would love to be able to plug this in:

    https://www.amazon.com/HooToo-Premium-Adapter-Charging-Chromebook/dp/B019R9ILTG

    that would give me:

    • charging
    • external monitor
    • USB for audio interface
    • 2 USB for midi
  • So who ever gets its first needs to do some gadget and bm3 battery tests.

Man this thing is gonna be super fast

This is relative. See also discussions about speed differences. The problem is cooling. Probably in practise it's 20% faster.

With multicore apps the speed increase could be up to 95% compared to the best iPad Pro before. That's huge in my opinion.

Guess Apple designed that new chip so that the heat will not hindrance the speed.

  • The accessory (new Apple Pen and 'Keyboard Cover') prices are mildly insane...

MMhhhh...yeah, i´m really close to preorder one for my birthday but maybe i should wait for RAM, thermal throttle test etc.
Even Android smartphones have 8 cores so it doesn´t say much.

  • Strangely enough I feel no desire what so ever to get any of the new products there were announced...
My Air 2 is still a 64-bit device and should 'survive' at least a few more major iOS updates (ie. IOS 13 & 14) :)

We'll see. There's of course also the side of software optimalisation. So far the iPhone 7 (A10) renders movies faster than iPhone Xs (A12). Also there was hardly any difference in rendering movies on an iPad Pro 2017 (A10X) and an iPhone 7 (A10). Although on paper the multicore performance of the A10x crushed the A10. Benchmarks see not everything for real life performance.
So we'll have to wait for the real test reviews next week.

Does iOS even allow use of multi-core f.e. for a single synth/AUv3. And the 8 cores (like f.e. the 12 virtual cores in an macbook pro) are not all for heavy load.
Then it seems that audio still isn´t one of the focus but rather things about artwork and graphics.

I wonder if it is generation 2 USB-C and/or in general wonder what speed it has. Thunderbolt 3?
For a pro device i really need more specific specs like read/write from the SSD/Flash and so on.
It is 2X faster bla bla and it is the best iPad we ever created......really? WTF!

Thanks fellas. It was the obvious solution. Easy enough proof for my folks that were hyper anxious about it.

  • We should probably have a thread that addresses the best (and least expensive) ways to use the USB-C port to interface with existing dongles such as CCK etc (if that is even possible). Or if not, what alternatives would give the best options.

The 'best' solution is a powered multi-purpose USB-C hub like the one pictured a few posts up.
There is no need for the CCK anymore and we can say goodbye to lightning-only devices...

Never buy those unless you have some weird passion for overpriced products :) The same as for storage. Up to 256g is ok but 1TB for what? Knowing you can use usb-c to store elsewhere...

The point of usb-c is... mmm not dongles?
    But hell yeah it’s Appleizing

  • Unfortunately no iPad Mini 5. The Pro models are out of my reach financially.

What is wierd is no price cuts on older Pro Models. Why keep theme available if you can get the latest for only 150 more and have an iPad the has twice the speed, etc. Don't understand this pricing strategy.

There’s obviously gonna be a lot of dongling going on. Sucks. But it is better to have dongles than not have new iPads.

All good news to me today. Nothing made my 2017 10.5 feel obsolete or old. Yet, I’m motivated to buy either a Mac Air or new iPad Pro based on what I’ve seen. I’ll certainly wait to get one used after the holiday overspending yields remorseful resale deals.

USB-C connectivity will open up a flood gate of creative opportunity over the next few years until they move past it for wireless. Audio companies will catch up slowly, in the meantime...dongle.

We’ve been here before with Apple, we will remain there with Apple. Some won’t. Many more will replace us.

The new Pencil only works with the new iPad Pros and Not with older models.

  • ipad pro is a BEAST!

  • I’d like to see a tear down of the Mac mini and if it’s ram is soldered.. I’m guessing it is but you know....

  • Roli iOS Dashboard is sure to drop soon. Midi is about to get sexy.

Unless you are doing insane movie editing, go for the Air and save yourself to have to sell an arm for naught.
