The accessory (new Apple Pen and 'Keyboard Cover') prices are mildly insane...

The new Pencil only works with the new iPad Pros and Not with older models.

    Really! :-(

    yup

Strangely enough I feel no desire what so ever to get any of the new products there were announced...
My Air 2 is still a 64-bit device and should 'survive' at least a few more major iOS updates (ie. IOS 13 & 14) :)

Yah, in BM3 on my 2017 iPad I gets to about 70% CPU with three or four instances of Synthmaster One, a couple Egoists, a Volt/Zeeon or two, and seemingly all the samples, Pro Q 2 and FAC plugins I could ask for. I'm good now. :)

  • 17600:- swedish krona for the new iPad Pro 12.9” with 512GB -SSD and the new Apple Pencil...
It’s OK for me, but, NO headphone jacket have gone into be no affair this year...

There’s obviously gonna be a lot of dongling going on. Sucks. But it is better to have dongles than not have new iPads.

All good news to me today. Nothing made my 2017 10.5 feel obsolete or old. Yet, I’m motivated to buy either a Mac Air or new iPad Pro based on what I’ve seen. I’ll certainly wait to get one used after the holiday overspending yields remorseful resale deals.

USB-C connectivity will open up a flood gate of creative opportunity over the next few years until they move past it for wireless. Audio companies will catch up slowly, in the meantime...dongle.

We’ve been here before with Apple, we will remain there with Apple. Some won’t. Many more will replace us.

Unless you are doing insane movie editing, go for the Air and save yourself to have to sell an arm for naught.

If you do videoediting by a Second hand Mac mini, Macbook Air or a Windows machine. So far the iPad is quite a little bit slower in workflow and rendering than those machines.

What is wierd is no price cuts on older Pro Models. Why keep theme available if you can get the latest for only 150 more and have an iPad the has twice the speed, etc. Don't understand this pricing strategy.

Guess if not with the Apple site that will happen soon enough at the retailers.

  • just for the record if I want a top of the line iPad 12.9 with 1TB storage, new Pencil, and new keyboard I will be spending...

    USD $2,077

wow, won't be buying one of these anytime soon. Even just the 256GB model alone is $1,149 :o

  • 12.1 downloading now. Hopefully won’t break anything important. :#

I’m still on an Air 2, so no idea what the last Pro’s cost, but a new 64gb 11” seems less painful than I expected.

yeah, the 11" seems like a great device and much more reasonable price. I don't think I could ever go back after using a 12.9 for 2 years, otherwise I would be considering the new 11"

Bingo. The worst thing about the 12.9 is the prospect of going back....

Just looked at the 10.5” - they’re only £150 cheaper than the new Pro. So the 11” price seems reasonable for a faster machine, and bigger screen.

Still a bit of life in my old Air 2, but I wouldn’t mind one of these in the future.

I was hoping for an iMac refresh, don’t seem to get much love those ones.

  • @Hmtx @JohnnyGoodyear +1000. Would easily pick up the 11" if I didn't get use to the size of the 2015 12 9"

  • Yeah I won't be going back :) and the new 12.9 is now even more desirable given the smaller footprint. Expensive though.

I was originally resigned to getting a 2nd gen 12.9 with 512GB was a little surprised to see that I could get the new 12.9 with 256GB for the same money. No brainer!

  • Sometimes i´m scared about that a lot people (me included sometimes) just buy into these expensive new hardware without there is any real informations, test, performance out there.
But i might wait for NS2 and then again test a new iPad for 2 weeks and decide if i will return it (like my 10.5" pro) or not.
I mean if i could i would buy a new macbook, iPad and mac mini right now :p

I'm so used to the 'cellular' Air 2 model that I'd go crazy without it :)

For now I'm happy with the Air 2 and have no urgent desire nor need to get a new one...
(I am closer to getting an 128GB iPhone XR though but I think I can resist a bit longer).

I do wonder ho 'fast' file-transfers the new iPad's can do over USB-C. The current lightning port is 'capped' at around 20MB/s...

But even before I consider getting one Apple has to put their act together and allow proper mass-storage support over USB-C... (I mean it's still a real PITA to transfer sounds from a Zoom field-recorders to the iPad without a computer).

On the fence between the 12.9" versus 11"
    and 256GB versus 512GB

Getting mostly for music but will do a little painting on it as well.

I never had an iPad as large as 10.5. Will I regret not spending the $200 to get the 12.9?
Never got close to 128GB on my phone using it for music, so I wonder what the chances are of me not getting 512GB?

I aim to have this "forever" as far as I can tell (or 5-10 years)

    Definitely :)
I'll look forward to getting a new one when I can justify/afford the upgrade. Plenty happy with my 12.9 pro 17 for now though.

Still can't believe the Apple pricing model for storage options though. It's criminal.

  • I’m just waiting on Best Buy to offer some kind of trade in deal so I can snag the new 11 inch model for about $300-$400.

  • What’s the RAM on the new ones? Searched through the Apple site specs but it seems to be a secret.

I was still rocking a gen 1 12.9, so it was even more of a no-brainer to go all the way.

Agreed! I would have loved to go all the way to 512GB but it was an additional $250 Can. Just ridiculous.

Probably won’t know until someone runs a geekbench test on it

I noticed Apple does trade ins now. I went through their wizard and it told me I would get $415 for my 10.5 pro 256gb

How weird, you’d think it’d be listed in the specs.

They never spec it! I did read somewhere fairly recently that someone had somehow sussed out that they had 8GB RAM in the new models. Awaiting confirmation just like you.

Yeah I wouldn’t be keen on that either. If you could just bring into Apple shop and get a credit right there would be cool.

I'm sorry the only long term advice must surely be: If it's not taking real food off your table get the 12.9 with all of the memory.

Thanks! I needed that! Plus its reasonable advice. My wife is encouraging the same. Only thing, is 512GB extra storage up to 1TB actually worth it?? Maybe in the scheme of time!

One can be very reasonable about the issue of memory, but even at the most conservative level I have always been told to take the edge of what you think you need and double it. For all of the computers I've had this has never failed me. Now, you can make the case that one can move stuff, songs, movies, art, whatever, off the iPad and back on as you need, which is true, but nothing beats the feeling of settling back into your seat, looking at the gauge, and muttering with a smile I can get to Boston on that.... :)
