Rotten Apple removes headphone jack from 2018 iPad Pro

edited July 2018 in Other

Although just rumour but it looks like the new 2018 iPad Pro will have the 3.5mm headphone jack removed like what happened on the iPhone. This is bad news for us iOS musicians who rely on wired headphones to produce and record music. Bluetooth headphones are no use because of latency and using a lighting adapter is no use if we want to charge the iPad as well as use headphones.

  • Just use a small audio interface with headphone oits - problem solved, with the plus of professional D/A.

  • Never ceases to amaze me how quick people on here are to want to denigrate Apple based on rumours.

If Apple are so rotten, don’t buy the products. If enough people agree with you they go out of business.

Third f*ing thread already, lol. It's just a RUMOUR! Even if it wasn't, there should be lightning jack dongles that allow headphones to be plugged in AT THE SAME TIME as allowing you to charge your iPad. Or Apple better give it wireless charging capabilities.

  • Denigrate? This is not unfair criticism. There is precedent for this unsurprising rumour and dealing with no standard audio jack on my iPhone 7s is painful enough that I don't use it for any music creation or even playback at this point. The main advantage for most to iPad music production is mobility and requiring external accessories like adapters and/or audio interfaces seriously undermines that. Will I stop? Doubtful. Will I upgrade? Doubtful in the near future. Do people have a right to disagree and complain? Absolutely, especially in this community. Will it change anything? Nope.

wireless charging is to much to slow for these devices ...

True. Well, at least the proper dongle then.

  • Face ID only working in portrait mode on a large sized iPad is pretty stupid in my eyes. Headphone jack removed Apple wants earybody on their bluetooth earpads. Probably they forget the audiolag that comes with making music on an iPad. @Max23 although Apple calls the new iPad Pros, iPad are the ultimate consumption tools for 99% of all users.

  • In fact, the rumor is that future laptops will not have the headphone jack either.
I can only trust that this will spur an innovation in bluetooth technology. If we can have relatively negligible latency with bluetooth keyboards, you'd hope that some clever soul can do the same for bluetooth headphones. It's not ready for what we do yet, but wouldn't that be far preferable if it worked well?

Honestly, I can't WAIT for a future that doesn't have cords running all over my desk like strangler ficus roots.

Well, sure. I'm not worried about next month or whatever.
But the headphone jack is definitely going away eventually, don't you think?

  • I use mostly one cord (2 if i charge the device) and that is the headphone.
But since i saw they mention also keyboard in portrait mode i can´t take that serious. Even Apple could not be such morons.......or? :#

    definitely eventually
    nice paradoxon :D

It is hardly a paradox. Event A is definitely going to happen. When? Eventually.

  • Another problem is in general with all of Apple devices that the more they are after the consumer market, the more they don´t care about niche and/or pro users.
And since they got so big they can´t really do quality control as well.
As long as there are other options and they give third developers the tools to give us what we like it´s O.K.
Also it´s as simple as it can be. If we are not happy, just buy something else or use the older devices until they die.
If they indeed would remove the headphone jack it would be another reason to not try an iPad again.
If the double the cpu, gpu power and RAM and would ditch this useless lightning connector and use just one usb-c thunderbolt 3 i could live with that too.
I remember how they praised the lightning connector but there is nothing special with it really.
I also wonder where are all the amazing third party accessories for the smart connector.
Good thing is that all these buggy new soft- and hardware releases let me realize that it´s just the best to use what i have until it will break and then just buy the best new shiny thing available i think will work for me.

the English use of eventually isn't what the word means
    éventuel (French)
    eventualis (Latin) eventus = random

    eventually = maybe

It's what it means in English.
But I'm happy to know its etymology.

Hm, and you can't see the paradox between definitely & maybe?
I thought we had a language barrier ...
    You are confusing me. ^^

OK, I'll indulge, even though you've picked a tussle over a language issue that you invented out of whole cloth.
I never said "maybe." In English, "eventually" does not mean "maybe." It never means "maybe."
It means "definitely, after some unspecified time."

But I can see I could have been clearer.
The headphone jack eventually is going away.
    Definitely.

    :)

that rumor is is full of things that are totally unpractical
they didn't remove the headphone jack from the laptops
so I doubt they are going to remove it from the iPads
ppl do actually work with these computers
and not just paw their facebook & twitter feed & make pretty pictures

they removed the headphone jack from the phone because ppl keep on dropping their phones into the toilette, I guess.

I’m surprised Apple didn’t just remove the toilet.

Not really .. when you want a quick jam with a lightning mic or connect a midi keyboard or you want play music at your buddy’s party .. u really miss it because you can’t always carry your interface and also the small adapter which is a pain .. because it keeps getting lost...

The Irony of calling something ‘PRO” whilst providing only a lighning port and removing the headphone input... just call it the IPad Dongler... because you’ll be shelling out extra $$ to be able to hook it up to anything. My camera connection kit died recently so that’s another $$...
Face Id... isn’t it amazing that they’ve convinced people this is actually a good idea and an asset? Amazing...
It’s too bad because it’s the best portable music studio available. If only it was more ‘pro’ when it comes to connecting devices...

Unfortunately, only a minority use the iPad for music production and the headphone jack so I doubt there would be enough people to go against this decision for Apple to go out of business.

I know it’s just a rumour but negative rumours usually become a reality with Apple. I’d stop buying Apple crap if only the apps weren’t so damn good that 3rd party devs create for the iPad.
