@JamMaestro When I first read your post, I was shocked, thinking you were insulting me!!! Hehe! :-)
@Rhism asked me to give my honest opinion. I was trying to be honest and tactful at the same time. I really hope it came across properly (without insult). I really love this app and was just trying to make it better! :-)
@Audiojunkie hehe, no I was saying its good. You can convince yourself something is ok until a 3rd party comes along and tells you otherwise. That kind of feedback in invaluable.
@Rhism nice, sounds like the proper way to do it. From a mixing perspective I imagine its much nicer to mix dry signals too (clipping is the bane of my life).
@JamMaestro Volume management is still a bit of a delicate thing. Want it to be as loud as possible without clipping etc. Turns out there is a huge amount of clipping in v3.20 when distortion is on - the next update will fix this, thanks to @Ryan for pointing that out!
@Audiojunkie No insults at all - actually you guys are all way too nice. It'd probably be extremely valuable to me to have you guys be more critical
Each time someone's brought up an issue, it's resulted in a much better app. Your feedback on the electric led to the AUFX integration. @syrupcore's feedback on the audition trigger led to the auto looper. @Ryan's comment recently on the clipping in the distortion called my attention to an obvious bug that I should've caught but didn't (among many other awesome suggestions he's made) . Etc etc etc.
Actually lets have a total guitarism smackdown. For the weekend just forget about the things you all like about guitarism and tell me the things you don't like. It could be tiny little annoying things or huge gaps that need to be addressed, could be simple fixes or completely unreasonable demands - let's get it out here
Something good will come of it.
To keep it productive, let's exclude the gaps we already know about (custom chords, MIDI In, better recording workflow, non-Facebook login method, effects reordering, and the recent crashes and 4P muting issue). Also I'll refrain from trying to address issues for at least a day - want to avoid being defensive about things, just want to let everyone vent first.
Alright - flame on!![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I would like to see a transpose feature for the 6 chords. Maybe an optional position to change the secondary chords. Positioned below the chords, on right side in one row. It would be more convenient for users who don't play it like a real guitar. Also, on left side below chords, in one row, a way to change chord quality to maybe 7ths or 9ths.
"It would be more convenient for users who don't play it like a real guitar"
This, in general. I never hold the phone/iPad like a guitar.
We know that we, the AB forum members, are not a full spectrum representation of the guitarism user base but I'd be interested to know how many people use guitarism flat on a table vs hand held.
@Rhism - I found a bug, this app doesn't sound like a piano like I thought it was going, please fix! Lol ; )
@audiojunkie I thought the same thing. lol
@mgmg4871 @syrupcore I play it like a lap steal.. everything is semi comfortable.. I do agree that alternate styles would be very interesting. How do you guys play?
@JMSexton 4P + iGrand. Problem solved. NEXT! LOL :-)
Even though I also play real guitar, on the iPad I prefer playing Guitarism (and other guitar apps) with the tablet flat in my lap or on a table in front of me. I like Morris' idea of having the chords in a column along the left edge of the display, with multiple columns for different voicings or secondary chords instead of those strips that currently cover part of the string display when "secondary chords" is enabled.
Currently, there's still about a quarter of the screen that can be put to good use. One could also think of a sound for tapping the body of an acoustic, or even for toggling effects, stompbox style, maybe in a row along the bottom.
@mmp the problem with that is continuity between the iPad app and the iPhone app. There is space on the iPad but on the iPhone there is none. So it's difficult to offer something like that as there just isn't room on the phone. @Rhism wants to have all the same functions in all versions of the app and I agree with him. No reason to short change the iPhone users. :-)
@Ryan OK, but I don't see why it couldn't be offered as an option, maybe even as an IAP, just like Smart Strings.
@mmp I hear you man. There are a lot of things I would like to see in there too.. Like toggles for 4P and stomps would be SOOO awesome or, better yet, even a quick preset selector.
But yeah it makes sense to keep the iPad and iPhone options the same, that's why it can't be offered as an option. If you can think up a way to make it work with iPhone too then that would be fantastic. I know Rhism would love to hear it :-) BTW Smart strings are actually ported from the original iPhone version and are much more useful on iphone IMO. :-)
I play it on my lap or in front of me, not guitar- style. Apart from things mentioned and discussed before, I can't think of a single improvement I'd want to make!
By the way, I'm interested to see which thread gets to 1000 first - guitarism is still over 200 ahead, but with Korg Gadget coming up strongly...
Why so rigid about keeping iPhone and iPad options the same? Why limit yourself to the least common denominator? I'm really seeing missed opportunities here, even with Guitarism being the awesome app that it is already!
I could even imagine a new, separate iPad-only app, with a different name and style, from Rhism, alongside Guitarism...before somebody else steps in...?
Smart Plucking - The ability to touch and hold a certain number of strings and have a preselected plucking pattern play those strings in a chosen meter at a chosen tempo. I know it's possible to pluck patterns manually, but it's extremely difficult to do so reliably. It shouldn't matter which strings are held, the pattern should be able to adapt. e.g. For a 5 string clawhammer style, the lowest two selected strings would alternate ( normally played with the thumb ) and the other 3 strings take turns to be played in between the thumb plucks. It would also be useful to be able to automatically switch to alternative but compatible patterns for the selected meter in case the player moves from a 5 string chord to a 4 or 3 string chord. Eventually, it would be nice to be able to program in one's own plucking patterns and have the app quantise it for playback.
Oh, and I'm still waiting for shake n' shimmer...
Some FX configuration preset buttons on the main play screen wouldn't go amiss, either...
@mmp Well I can't say too much, but Rhism has given this all a lot of thought and there is a long term plan for Guitarism. There is good reason iPad and iPhone should be the same. That said.. Hell yes he should make a new app, I have mentioned it to him many times. Like a "Guitarism Pro" for iPad only.. One of the first things I ever wanted was palm muting... as I use it soooo much on real guitar. It could work that way. So yes, that would be excellent. It's just more important to Rhism to keep improving guitarism first and foremost... Starting a new app isn't the easiest thing to do when the app you already have out there still "needs" improvement... but yeah +1000000 for Guitarism Pro.
Great, looking forward to Guitarism Pro, or DeLuxe, or Signature Edition or Guitarissimo! ;-)
It would have to be Guitarism Custom...
Looks like shrinking the chord boxes on IPhone, just a bit, might allow for the additional chord qualities.
Percussive body sounds (I think this was already mentioned) and ability to generate harmonics, slides, bends, etc. I know Guitarism is mostly chord/rhythm based, but given the addition of electric guitars and the sound quality, I think diving into melodic structures would be a great next step.
It's probably been mentioned before, but it would be great to have a nylon string guitar?
btw. Small issue but the icon in the AB strip has gone missing (again? Not really sure but I thought that had been fixed?)
I'll be getting an iPhone soon, so I'll see how it affects the way I use Guitarism. Currently I play it on the iPad laying flat on my lap or table.
I like the smart strings wide spacing and would like to see that as a setting (again this is from an iPad point of view). While it is quite good at automatically switching, there are times when I am trying fast sequences, and it switches (probably my fault, but I can't practice to get it correct if it keeps switching somewhere in the middle).
I would like to see some MIDI bindings for some of the functions. e.g. individual techniques on/off, guitar effects and/or preset selection, even perhaps Key and capo changes for those songs that need it.
I'm all for feature parity between small and large screens but I don't see a need for UI parity particularly with regards to ancillary features like extra chords or stompbox toggles.
Awesome feedback guys! I'll process and respond in about 12 hrs. Keep em coming!![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Any way to do a vibrato arm?
Small area to the right of screen (where the bridge would be) to press palm against for using palm mute while playing?
And perhaps a Wah pedal slider and slide emulation. And some means to play with our teeth! ;-)
Yeah, I want to be able to play with funjunkie27's teeth...
Just give me your mailing address and I'll ship 'em your way.
Lol. Don't forget to insure them.
