  • I've passed it on to everyone except our village idiot. ;-)

  • @yowza Yes, I'm considering either that (but maybe not call it AUFX in that case), or putting each effect in a separate AUFX app (AB2 will allow many effects in the chain), or perhaps both!

  • @Rhism - I'm having trouble in understanding when a new loop gets triggered. It would be nice to be able to recall loops, so you can audition different effects with a looped style that's more appropriate for the effect I'm dialing in.

  • @funjunkie27 The loop recorder follows 3 rules:

    1) Starts recording when you start playing on the main guitar screen (all menus closed)

    2) Stops when you bring up menus or close the app / switch to another app

    3) If the recording's first and last strum (or note) use the same chord, loop playback will loop at the start of that last strum (instead of the end of the recording)

The third rule takes a little while to wrap your head around, but once you get used to it it makes the looper very powerful. It allows you to mark the end of the loop fluently from within your performance flow, rather than rush to press a separate "loop stop" button which may be sitting off in the corner and you may or may not press it right on time etc. So basically it makes it much easier to create seamless loops.

I do want to add the ability to have multiple loops saved and switch around between them. This loop recorder will eventually also replace the separate (and very cumbersome) "create a recording" workflow in the app.

  • Thanks @Rhism. I'll give it a try and see if it makes sense.

  • The looper is great and makes setting up a sound much easier. Good to hear you are thinking of developing this in the way you said.

  • The looper is really intuitive. Works very well.

  • After all's said and done, images like this will remain with me :)

  • That's awesome! Congratulations @Rhism! :-)

  • Thanks @Audiojunkie! :)

So a couple people have written in complaining that guitarism's internal sound shuts down if they try using Quadroplay (even if they set "Mute Guitarism" to No), and it stays muted even after they turn off Quadroplay - they've needed to reboot their iPad to get the sound back. Both of them have iPad Air running iOS 7.0.4.

Any iPad Air owners with that OS who can confirm this? Even if you haven't bought Quadroplay you can still test this out since it allows you to audition for free.

  • iPad Air ---> install Guitarism ---> just going through menus for 5 min ---> purchase InApp "rock package" ---> change electric guitar color from blue to red ---> trying different Keys ---> CRASH.

That's basically the timeline I have experienced first; bottom line, fantastic app and great job done. Congrats! Today I will dig more into it, looking fwd.

  • @Ollimac73 Thanks for the note - am hearing a few other reports of crashes as well. Apologies for this - I'm looking into it...

  • I had crashes when I first used it, but after restarting my iPad2 I haven't had any more problems.

Confirm! As said, looked into it more in depth, restarted ipad, working great! Lots of fun and inspiration.

  • You'll laugh but I found myself shaking my iPad the other day when playing a sustaining electric guitar sound, as if to get some vibrato / whammy kind of effect. This would make a great addition!

  • LoL yeah same here. Adil too. We've had this conversation before. :-)

  • @PhilW, I'm not laughing, there's a good reason TJ has had that since its inception :)

  • Yes I use it in TJ and it is excellent!

    Post 800, bitches! Wooooo! * Fireworks *

  • @rhism I had that muting problem you mentioned. Restarting guitarism fixed it. Do look into it when you can.

I had a crash when I had a loop playing and switch guitars it crashed on ipad 2

  • edited January 2014

    @Michael_R_Grant Excellent - won't be long now ;)

@Rajesh Thanks for confirming the muting issue - can you confirm whether it's only happening with specific MIDI receiver apps or all apps?

@PhilW Yep my "Desire" for this was visually documented at the end of this video I made a while back :)

  • @JMSexton Yep - not sure why we never saw crashes during beta but I've started seeing them as well now. The crashes are my #1 priority now, and the 4P muting issue is #2. Hoping to release a v3.21 soon with fixes for these two things.

  • Yeah, strange. Could it be related to iPad models? I've only got an iPad2 and didn't see any of these crashes..... :-(

  • Way to rock it @Rhism!

  • Big congrats to @Rhism and @ryan and @j_liljedahl. Can't wait to try it.

@rhism, use case for reordering effects is pretty simple, just additional sonic possibilities. For example, delayed distortion sounds very different than distorted delays. Or delay->reverb sounds like echoes with reverb on them whereas reverb->delay sounds like a bigger reverb.

  • @syrupcore Makes sense.

Right now the way the ordering is set up, all the post-EQ effects are stereo while the EQ and everything before it is all mono. With reordering it's possible to have a mono effect after a stereo, in which case the panning information would be lost and the output would be mono. No clean way to communicate that to the user unfortunately.

Technically every effect could be run as stereo (just run two instances of the mono effects) but this would have a big CPU impact so I'm not inclined to go there...

FYI I have a fix for the 4P muting issue - still working on the crashes.

  • I think it's not such a terrible trade off to lose stereo if passing the signal through a mono effect. There are mono and stereo fx pedals, so guitarists are used to this. Just explain it in the helpfile and stick a mono or stereo icon on each effect graphic as a reminder.

  • @PaulB Don't really want to put mono/stereo icons as it could become cluttered, but I agree that it's perhaps not a big deal. If it doesn't bother you guys it won't bother anyone else :)

Agree with @paulb about the mono/stereo thing. Since it's a mono source to begin with, no big deal on loosing stereo effects... for effect, so to speak. And as a mono source, I agree that it's definitely not worth the CPU trade off to make things like the EQ or compressor stereo. Think he's also spot on about guitarist's expectations.
