Just because people don't like searching for stuff:
Thanks for posting the vid..this isn't the Guitarism video, but it is a great example of using Audiobus as complete recording solution. We tried to get a very clean sound amd not too over the top with effects. And the way AB Works gave a very good workflow and a very nice sound..Thanks for making the most useful sound tool ever for musicians using the iPad..
Oh you mean this one?
I think that's already been talked about here.
Yeah thats the one...I didn't know it had already been on We only signed up about an hour ago..I visit the site all the time for info and updates on apps and stuff so I thought it was time I signed up.
Welcome then!
Yeah, we're inquisitive little musos on this bus.
Nice videos. Thanks
Okay, after reafing through this thread I got convinced and bought Guitarism. i have a 6 string electric but it's nice having and acoustic besides GarageBand's accoustic with no Audiobus yet. I have a midi guitar and can play the nice acoustic sounds in SampleTank, but again no audiobus yet.
Guitarism is real easy and intuitive to play and I love how I can route it through JamUp or other effects via AudioBus.
So yes, other sound patches would be nice. Imagine a well recorded Strat, Les Paul, nylon and steel string accoustic, etc.
@AkaMarko what midi guitar are you using? Also Rhism has stated that Guitarism will get a midi update, which means you can play your midi guitar through Guitarism.
I'm using the You Rock Guitar.
Same here. Inspired Instruments is soon to release downloadable content for the YRG 1000. That's the one I'm using. Couldn't justify upgrading to the 2nd Gen. I've done a few tweaks on it, and it works great.
@thesoundtestroom Welcome to the thread!
@Sebastian Thanks for posting the video - actually this one wasn't on here earlier, that was the one from @Ryan.
In the spirit of adding more links for the curious, here's a couple other online reviews of guitarism that came in over the last week or so:

And one very cool video of Italian songwriter Nel Dubbio playing guitarism at a show:
@Akamarko Yep midi in and extra sounds are part of the plan for the next couple months. For midi guitars the main ones I've heard about are YRG and the Ion All-Star, what are your thoughts on the two, and/or any others you may have tried?
@Rhism, for the money you can't beat the You Rock Guitar. if you are a guitar player you will have to modify your playing because the YRG is less forgiving. Many False triggers at first. if you are new to guitar playing, any midi guitar can be frustrating to play unless you are just doing single notes but with a bit of patience, tweaking of midi guitar settings and practice, it can be a powerful instrument in your setup.
I have one of these. I think it can be configured to output a different MIDI channel per string, but I have never tried this.
@Rhism I have All Star Guitar. It's basically waiting for the right software. The default software is kinda useless except for learning purposes. Guitarism would be the perfect fit. Although All Star Guitar is not actually midi. That's why it's perfect for apps that use touch for strumming and picking. It would be great if you contacted those folk to see how you could implement Guitarism into their guitar.
@Rhism Out of interest, how many notes do you currently have sampled for each string? I'm guessing it's not as many as you'd need to support MIDI input from a MIDI guitar with a full length fretboard. Something to consider, I guess. The danger would lie in trying to make Guitarism into something it's not.
Just thought of another request for Guitarism. A quick access mute button so you can mute only the chords you want instead of globally muting.
If you have your digit on the chord button, it isn't muted.
@mgmg4871 I got a hold of an ion last week, will be tinkering with it when I get to that point. Will contact them too to see if they have any documentation.
@PaulB Yes the note range is just one of the many challenges for adding midi in support, since I only have frets 0-12 sampled right now. Other challenges include figuring out which subset of midi to support e.g. pitch bend (I don't have that in the app right now), other CCs. Non-trivial problems
@AkaMarko Can you elaborate on what you mean by 'mute only the chords you want' ? Not sure I understand what you'd do with a quick access mute button that you can't do right now
From what I understand you either have the mute setting which affects any chord you're playing when you lift your finger off the selected chord or you have mute setting off so all chords will ring/fade until you hit a new chord.
I may want to play with the mute setting off but there may be a moment or two during the song where I want to instantly mute. It would be good to have an instant mute button somewhere convenient on the guitar body.
Think of your instant mute button as the act of lifting your finger. Keep it down for the rest of the song.

I understand that. I Want to play with mute setting off. Then when I want it to mute, I want it instant. In other words, I want to hear ringing notes in between chord changes but like at the end of a verse, I want an instant mute before going into the chorus.
Think AcDc's 'dirty deeds done dirt cheap'. At the end of the verse, everyone plays the last note then mutes before going into the chorus.
@AkaMarko I understand what you're asking for. However, the guitarism interface is 'full' i.e. there is no space for more buttons given my underlying principle of keeping it playable without looking at the screen. I can possibly do stuff with accelerometer and some multi-touch / swipe gestures but no more buttons, at least not on iPhone. iPad is a different story, still exploring the possibilities there.
Like @PaulB said, if you keep your chord selection finger down the rest of the time you will have ringing notes in between chord changes so it'll give you the sound you want. You can slide it around to change chords without muting. If you don't like the 'finger sounds' that play when you slide, you can disable them in the settings screen.
Thanks @Rhism, i played around with just sliding from chord to chord and it works fine so far.
Speaking of iPad, it would be great to have as wide a selection of chords available as possible, possibly with combinations of buttons? I really like WI Guitar for this, it means that you can choose chords "on the fly" which is great when you are writing stuff or just improvising. But I think that Guitarism is the best bet for an Audiobus enabled virtual guitar.
"Although All Star Guitar is not actually midi". It does in fact send MIDI as it triggers several of my iOS synths via virtual MIDI. Each string transmits on a separate MIDI channel causing some unusual results on certain apps.
I planned on sending it back after playing with it for a short period but it is still sitting there. The neck flex is quite noticeable but what can you expect for a controller under $60? I've only tried it with my iPod as my iPad has a protective case that is a pain removing.
For the price, I guess it is just OK. I have an Ibanez fitted with a Roland hex pickup going to a Roland GR-20 (along with a Line 6 Variax 300 guts transplanted and a wireless transmitter :-) ) so the iON isn't really necessary but may prove useful eventually.
Also wanted to say that Guitarism is a pleasure to play.
The neck feels pretty flimsy on the Yamaha EZ-AG too.
@Keebo, if you have an electric you don't even need any hardware to trigger midi on the iPad. See my quickie video I did.
@AkaMarko Hey, I remember you from the ST YouRockGuitar video. You help start my app obsession. Lol
