That’s a great question- I had a go- but I’m not sure how to get the ESP ‘OUT’ to go to the main mix- anyone? I can’t find a manual either.
My favourite things about the update
iMS-20 multiple instances.....YAY I no longer feel I'm wasting MS-20 by using it for Kicks........because I can use more than 1.
iMS-20 adds half decent drum synthesis (great for Kicks) that can easily be used chromatically.
Track naming - Makes it easier when importing stems into other apps
MIDI OUT - This has made Gadget the place for me to make my patterns and samples for Electribe Sampler....I can use Gadget and Vancouver to build what i want for the sampler, and then transfer everything over once I've got the samples sorted. Much easier than trying to build stuff on the sampler itself as it gets around some of the workflow flaws. Once stuff is transferred to the sampler, switch from Vancouver to Taipei and carry on :)
Better performance - Seems a lot smoother, not had any audio crackle yet when using the heavy Gadgets (Lexington)
Overall a good update, was very underwhelmed initially but I am slowly changing my mind. Still not the 'Do it all in one place' thing that Korg Marketing promised...but definitely a step closer. Due to the possibilities that Taipei brings, I am feeling the update as more an update to the whole Korg universe rather than just Gadget itself.
iMonoPoly also got updated for preset export and @davis_korgrd mentioned the ‘standalones’.
ODYSSEi is now the only standalone that doesn’t support user preset export.
🤞fingers crossed while I’m moving the ARP faders
Tim Webb at discchord done a mega tutorial series years ago on MS-20

Thanks Andy.
Does anyone know whether you can stop the feed track sounding and only have it's output though the iMS-20?
Tonights viewing sorted :)
My thoughts are that the iPad app is a useful update, with Taipei and the drum groove pads being standouts, but the Mac version really does really have enough extra to warrant the $99 upgrade. I think $49 would have been bearable.
I'm thinking I will just use Gadget 2 on the iPad and then export projects to Ableton Live, where I can use the existing Gadget VSTs I have. I just tried exporting a Gadget 2 project with a Taipei and when opened it Ableton it just creates a track with no instrument VST in - so that's perfect for just using IDAM to route back to the iPad to capture the audio from the relevant AUv3 instrument.
I might upgrade to Gadget 2 if I hear enough good things about the iMS20 and Polysix, but my feelings are that I've got all the analog goodness pretty much sonically covered with Lexington and Montpellier.
Very fair.
Yeah apart from that you can get very close to that patch. It's a shame you can't patch one instance into another though.
Just checking - am I right that is is not possible to trigger Gadget's scenes by external control?
I can't see any way of assigning MIDI learn to that, but what about the NanoKey? Or any other way?
It would make Gadget a very handy tool for live performances if it could do this - especially now Taipei can sequence other iOS synths.
Just updated for iPhone:
-Ugly colors, my goodness.
-Taipei is out only? No way to control other gadgets???
-Probably most importantly, no iMS20 or Polysix gadgets for iPhone?!?!
I noticed they removed Darwin from the list as well. Keeping my fingers crossed they are working to bring all those to iPhone, not getting my hopes up though.
That's sadly not possible AFAIK. I'd also love to be able to control the mixer with any MIDI controller including the IFX.
And maximized storage.
Cut size of the app in half basically.
From 3.8 to 1.6 for me.
Here's the instructions to remote install the ims20 etc to iphone etc, works for me. Nice to have it on my SE :)

Unfortunately I can’t confirm this with my iPad Air2. I never complained about battery drain, but now when playing with just one Gadget (Pompei) the battery is using 10%-15% in just 10 minutes. Before it was approximately 10% in 20 minutes. So Gadgets 2 seems to need the double amount of power... Can someone confirm this (with Air2)?
This isn’t unusual. I was an “early adopter” of Mac Gadget. I have no idea what that’s worth, but I’d assume nothing. I’ve been using it for a certain amount of time, and my usage over that time is how Korg earned my money. Someone who bought it recently hasn’t had the time to get their money’s worth yet, so why shouldn’t they pay less for the upgrade? I don’t have to upgrade. I can just continue to use what I paid for.
I haven't caught up on this thread but just had to share this... I fell asleep with my iPad (Pro 12.9 1st gen, screen brightness on minimum, battery near 100%) turned on and Gadget 2 running. I woke up about 7 hours later and discovered the screen was still up, wasn't even hot, and the battery level was at 69%! I can say with absolute certainty that before upgrading, there is a 100% chance that iPad would have been dead. To me, that's a minor miracle...
[Edited to slay a double negative.]
I am really liking how you can play with the drum jam feature over the top of previously laid out automations- and also change the style on the fly with no interruptions.
Does anyone know how to enable the record count-in? I've got a two bar count-in selected in the 'other settings' panel, but it never works - when I hit record, it just goes straight in.
Check If Link is enabled as it messes up the count-in...
That's it...brilliant - thanks Samu!
I'm no expert in modular, but this what I found works after some twiddling with patching:
Also if you want to add an external signal here is what works:
And if you don't want to hear iMS-20's oscillators alongside your external input, turn them all the way down in the VCO mixer section in the synth page:
The XY pad.
The transfer does no good if you’re without an iPad.
More nagging: Still get clicks in Vancouver pretty easily, even with smooth on. Really annoying that they haven’t fixed this yet. I reported this ages ago, and even got a response saying they confirmed it as a problem.
Who the f*** creates a sampler these days that doesn’t have micro fades or cross fades of some sort? And what active developer doesn’t fix their s*** when it’s so obviously broken?
I found a way how to do it with AUM.
I suppose a similar concept can be applied to Audiobus.
That's interesting, how do you get the external patch cable to stay outside the gui on the signal in? (and where do you select where it's coming from?) :)
edit: ah ok that's external audio, not another instance.
Isn’t there usually a lieg sale for im1 odyssei and all these two, when they drop a new update?
Anyone knows something? I am on the edge to get another korg machine for my ambient expirations;)
That's right, but nothing stops you loading two iMS-20 instances and use one as an external source in the other one if you wish so.
Confirmed, saturator doesn’t work on iPhone XS. @davis_korgrd
