Did some testing and sad to say battery use has not improved for me (iPad Pro 9.7)
As been mentioned before it depends on which screen and actions.
But playing some Madrid for 7 min (no sequence running) used almost 10% battery! :'(

Here's my battery report after having Just updated this morning. Battery was at 90% ... I opened Gadget and made quick beat in Recife, a simple bassline in monopoly, then opened up 5-6 Memphis gadgets and recorded a few notes (just got ims20 so was checking out presets). I spent some time trying to build a patch in one Memphis instance. About 45 mins of gadget being open - battery dropped 7% to 83%.

    2018 regular iPad iOS 12.3

Thanks for report. Were you playing keys onscreen or through a controller?
Yeah, the inconsistency between models is confusing. Both my iPad Pro 9.7 and iPhone SE behave similarly.
Do you have Lisbon or Madrid? Playing those with the onscreen keys (not with a controller) have a big impact on battery for me.

And yes I did update to v2 🤣

Oh maybe they are only iPad apps , bummer, I mean I have an iPad but I wanted them on my xs max as well....i think that's why I don't see em tho lol

The standalone apps are iPad only, but the Gadgets are universal. If you haven’t purchased the iPad apps, then the Gadgets won’t show as available on your iPhone.

If you have purchased them, then first you need to do a “restore purchases”, then they should show. After that you have to have Gadget running on both devices, and do a “remote install” on the iPhone.

Question about saving templates, however...I didn't see if there was a way to save configurations and CC mappings as "presets" within Taipei. BUT, I assume you could just make a dummy project where you have like 4 different Taipei's, and one goes to UNO Synth, and the other three go to three different Volcas, and the Channel mappings and CC knobs stay saved for each. You start with a clear piano roll and begin programming from there. This would work, right?

You can save user presets the same way you do it in other gadgets. There are some factory presets included, mostly for Korg hardware synths.

Same here on my Air 2 iOS 12.1.4.

10 minutes Gadget (even if it doesn’t produce any sound) = 10% battery. That means: maximum 100 minutes is possible (but just if NO sound is produced).

In the previous version of Gadget I was able to make music for at least 180-300 minutes (with 5-8 Gadegets producing sound).

I never complained about battery life before... but this difference is unbelievable HUGE!

@h_vel In which screen does that happen?

  • I like the that iMS-20 lets you feed in audio from another gadget track, but anyone know how you can mute the source audio track - so you just hear what’s coming out of the iMS-20 track?

That would be really good to be able to do. Lots of possibilities for interesting sound design.

But right now it’s a bit annoying you have to hear the dry signal from the source audio too.

Just tried this -- I added a Madrid to a project I started this morning with 2 Recifes, 1 Memphis doing simple bass, 8 Montpelliers. I added a Madrid and jammed for about 5 mins over my groove playing the onscreen keyboard for a bit - then recorded a 4 bar loop letting it play while I tweaked presets - then I played the onscreen keyboard over top of the looped notes recorded ---
So 5 mins give or take and my battery went down 1%.

If I remember correctly, I was looking at the CCs of different Gadgets. So: Track view with Function enabled.

Is the battery consumption really related to the screen (not to the amount of playing Gadgets/FX)?? If yes: this must be a big bug. Wich screen uses the most power?

Yes, it’s also related to which screen is open.
For instance: playing a zoomed-in gadget (after tapping twice) uses less battery than having the faders and key-roll next to it.

Thanks @sysexual. The desire to complete the collection is real. Realized I haven’t bought the 80s video game doohickey either which I’m sure I don’t need but I think I’ll grab Lisbon after your assessment and watching @jakoB_haQ video. It does look goofy though.

When I mute the source track in the mixer, I still hear it through Memphis? You don’t? Don’t forget to turn up the signal level in the external signal processor section like I always do. ;)

[edit] I just verified. I routed a Kamata track into Memphis, muted the Kamata track, pressed play, turned down the oscillator in Memphis, then played keys. Whenever I pressed a key in Memphis I heard the Kamata track.

I don’t get why Kamata isn’t more loved but then I’m more BleepBoop than BoomBap I suppose.

  • I gotta say / after updating this morning I'm very pleased with it! And I haven't touched the midi out other than test it quickly. But ims-20 (new purchase this am) and the update inspired 3-4 new tracks in just the past 3-4 hours play. I don't even mind the gradient bg much / although prefer the old blue given choice. I find editing/moving notes and little things just a little smoother now. Also was happy to export all the extra presets I downloaded ages ago online for iMono/Poly - so I now have I think 220 new great presets in monopoly gadget now. It took maybe 15-20 mins to export them individually. the new fx are very nice - expect to be using them lots. And the drumjam thing is cool to add a little spice - I was muting kicks and snares to just have it give me some added percussion or hats to my programmed beats.

I surprise myself often by getting some really good non-gameish sounding leads out of Kamata. The ability to draw your own waves makes for some powerful sound shaping. Those leads can really cut through a mix, and I doubt you would think Kamata when you first hear them.

Pretty sure battery life is better on my Air 2 than before. Previously it was dropping 1% per minute. Even though I’ve been working on more intensive projects since the update, it’s definitely not dropping as quickly now.

Just had another 15 minute session, with loads of tracks going, and 4% battery drop, plus minimal heat. Considering this is a 4 year old device, it seems to still be up to the job.

  • Here's the original link I found presets from

2 banks. Great stuff too! Need to use iTunes to install in standalone presets folder. Then export each manually in standalone to gadget.
