@elf_audio Classic example of "if you give a mouse a cookie"...if you give an Audiobus forum member one-shot mode, they'll ask for choke groups. Any thoughts? I'd say keep it for a pro version!
I did find one answer back on page 8 or so (as far as I could manage in working my way through the thread) for lengthing sequences. Increasing the bars doesn’t fill with the already recorded parts, it just leaves empty bars.
The workaround is to copy the sequence to an empty slot, then copy that back on to the original. You get a pop up asking if you want to append or merge. Choosing append doubles the sequence length. That’s good enough for me.
I’m repeating it here to save anyone having to repeat my thread-diving.
Mutes and scrubbing through different areas of samples while recording would be nice. More than happy to pay for an iap if that happens. Just want to say thanks again @elf_audio , I really dig the immediacy and fun of this app. It’s the perfect antidote for the tangled Max MsP I’ve had my head in lately. 🙏
@bcrichards Of mice and Men. - John Steinbeck. It really is a good read.
Does the new "upside-down portrait mode" work automatically? Didn't see anything in the settings and it doesn't seem to work (auto-orientation) on my iPhone X.
@seldomstatic Apple doesn't actually support upside-down portrait mode on iPhone X (I suspect because of the notch at the top of the screen).
Now that I think about it, yeah that makes sense. Guess it's time to throw Koala on my iPhone 6S.
@stormbeats it might have been you that mentioned the sp404 as an the guiding sampler for Koala? Win posted this in the BM3 Discord which you might like.
“Steeped in the D.I.Y. ethos of Hip Hop and Punk Rock, Danswift is a multi instrumentalist, beatmaker and crate digger.
An analogue man lost in a digital world, producing Roland SP-404'jams,these tracks are all recorded live to tape, without a safety net and contain no overdubs or edits.”

@gusgranite cheers thanks Will take a listen
I must be missing something, the bass synth sounds basically the same no matter what sample I am fx-ing.
What’s the deal?
I am in re-sampling mode
It only pitch tracks the mic or sample you are applying it to. It tries to apply the tracked pitch to a synth, which pretty much makes the result sound similar no matter what you are pitch tracking. It does produce a good variety of results though, with somewhat unpredictable pitch tracking causing weirdness and chaos, depending on what you are applying it to.
@elf_audio Fantastic new update Thanks. Koala is about to take over. Cheers Elf. Only thing it needs now is ASDR Envelopes per pad & basic Hi/Lo Pass Filters per pad and a Stereo widener. The new Double Sequence is ace . Still getting issues with Performance Gate. Sometimes it works sometimes not in Hold On&Off
Performance Gate seems to be an issue Works when it wants to in Hold On or Off. Anyone else getting this issue
@elf_audio very weird this Gate issue - seems to work with some projects and not others . Help :-)
@elf_audio tested the Gate more and it seems it does not work with One Shot samples. Can you fix if possible.
Double up is awesome, thanks!
One thing I've noticed is that the swing setting doesnt get saved with the project, is that a bug or is there a setting somewhere to change that? I haven't seen it in settings but I may have missed something.
@stormbeats et al. Thanks for spotting about the oneshot+gate effect combo bug. I know why it’s happening and will get a fix out soon.
Also @stormbeats your other comments are duly noted, sorry I didn’t reply earlier
@mrufino1 Good spot, I don’t think swing is saved at the moment. Added it to the list for next update.
Also there was an update yesterday that fixes a few small problems with respect to sync and timing, as well as a free copy of Ableton Live Lite (press menu, then export, an option should be there for it)
@elf_audio cool
@elf_audio in the settings section, pressing anywhere except the options and the button OK will close the settings box. I assume it’s unintentional?
Still hope Landscape View is coming.
Can someone help me with this double up thing? I can’t figure out how to do it or what it’s useful for.
It doubles the pattern length but also repeats what you have entered. If you have a one bar loop and you press double up, you now have a 2 bar loop with your 1 bar loop copied to the second measure as well. If you add a bar instead by switching the number of measure with + or - or by selecting the number, you now have a 2 bar loop but the second bar is empty. Great that you have the option to do either one because they serve different purposes.
@EyeOhEss At the moment it converts each sequence to a wav, then puts those into clips in an ableton file. Would like it to do more advanced stuff but the API doesn’t export much more. Might also export the midi sequences too. I also contacted ableton to find out if it would be possible to load stuff up into a drum rack with simplers with similar settings to koala but that’s probably a bit of a pipe dream at this stage!
Thank you, dunno why I was confused that’s simple.
On another note @elf_audio Would it be doable to have the clear pad function available within keyboard mode? Currently it won’t do anything unless you switch off keyboard mode, but it makes sense to me that within keyboard mode, that pad is already selected and so if I mess up recording a melody I’d like to be able hit clear pad right there and then and keep recording. Also, the other functions like clear sequence and the pattern lengths are all working in that mode so it seems especially weird that the clear pad button right next to them doesn’t do anything.
Thanks for the update @elf_audio! How do we claim the Live Lite license?
Press the menu button then EXPORT. Sorry it’s not the most obvious place
@elf_audio very much need a “auto go to next sequence in line” as an option in Setiings manually is ok but for song structure is a next step in the right direction . Will happily pay as an In App Purchase (Song Mode) .
EDIT : The current add/merge is good way around building a Song but while working out Song Structure could help a lot. I personally feel Koala is ready now for In App Purchases/ Advanced Features.
@elf_audio koala got used at my sound gig tonight to trigger a sample of the call to post from the Kentucky derby - it was an auction to benefit a school and had a Kentucky derby theme. About an hour before the start of the event, they asked if there was any way for me to play a recording - a quick Google search led to freesound.org, where there was a recording of it. I downloaded it and trimmed in reaper very quickly, and was going to play it from my Mac using the QuickTime preview, but I needed to do other things - so then I realized koala would be great for this - I threw it in Dropbox, imported to koala from Audioshare, and it worked perfectly. So Koala= happy and impressed clients. Who knew? Thanks for making the app!
