I’m sometimes needing to access notes that are beyond the range of the default octaves in chromatic mode. Is there an Oct+/Oct- thing that I’m missing?

@EyeOhEss copy the sample to another pad Use the pitch dial (+12/-12) In Settings there is a Pitch Snap to Semi Tones option if needed. Then go back to keyboard mode.
The “key thing to note/ Remember” pun intended is that your mind becomes the sample. This style of producing is what the SP303 etc is all about. Peace :-)

Thanks :) Yeah I’ve been doing the repitch&resample thing but it gets messy fast. You need to then use two or more pads to play one melodic part... being able to play the complete melodic part on one pad would be way quicker/cleaner and make things like resampling solo’d part with fx etc much smoother than having it spread over multiple pads for different notes....
hopefully an Oct+/Oct- feature can be added in to the keyboard mode at some point in future :)

@EyeOhEss I agree - I suggested to @elf_audio Pad Solo’s / Mutes would help big time for resampling and your right about the +/- Keyboard Octave Change,

  • @elf_audio spent some real quality time with Koala this weekend and I think it’s a real badass and a glowing example of simplicity in form and function. Personally, the only things I would ask for is:

    1. That the clear pad function is available when a pad is selected and in keyboard mode. That one seems like a slam dunk.
    2. It would be really helpful if, when resampling a pad, there was a prompt to “add to new loop: yes or no?” Which would basically place a perfect loop of the sampled loop into a new loop, as though you had recorded sustaining the loop sample perfectly, beginning at step one all the way through the length of it. Because I figure that’s one thing folks are doing with resampled loops anyway, it’d be nice to avoid the extra steps of hitting record, and hoping to nail it on beat one to get a perfect audio loop.
    3. If possible, a simple eq or variable filter (like the global one) for each sample pad.
    4. Major AND Minor Pentatonic? Looks like there’s only one pentatonic scale to choose from.

    Thank you!

  • For the love of iPad, landscape! Landscape I beg of you, kind sir/madame. I would tilt my hat to you, but alas my hat has fallen from my head, as I compose music with neck cocked 90 degrees, staring at this rabid koala. Plop. Hat on the floor. Fumbled for it, but so sticky! Bubble gum and Ash and peanut shells. If only there was landscape, all this could have been avoided. :)

@elf_audio any plans for Zoom Edit Waveform in Sample Editor? and if possible a snap Volume dial in Settings (0.0/ 0.5/ 1/ 1.5/ 2db etc like you added for the Pitch Dial and Up/Down option for Dial Tweaking. Currently The Volume&Pitch dial seems to be Rotary and a bit shaky/akward motion/movement.
Option to name sequences is much needed.
Pad Solo/s , Bank Solo/s & Undo. No demands or expectations at all for all the above but would really help a lot if can be implemented.
Thanks as always for giving us Koala and as I said before wil happily pay for an advanced version of Koala.

Even if there was a settings option where sequences were just sequentially numbered ‘1-32’ that’d do fine for me :)

@EyeOhEss 100% in agreement and to name samples - names appear on the pads even with a maximun amount letters numbers allowed 6 would be cool

Personally I like the pads nameless, it’s just cleaner and less visually overwhelming. But long term a settings option to display pad names couldn’t hurt I guess :) I’d have it pretty far down any kind of priority list myself, but I can see how it would be useful.

@EyeOhEss yesterday I chopped a sample into over 20 pieces sorting which parts to use for which sequence. I got there in the end but was a complete Maze..needed to know the sample names for sure. Could be as an option in Settings

  • Definitely would love zoom in the same editor, as well as naming samples, and also would be VERY happy to pay for these upgrades with whatever method works best for you @elf_audio, be it a separate app or in app purchase. If nothing else because it's easier to maintain one app with no IAP, then put a link on this forum to "tip jar"

  • @elf_audio are you on FB? You should join the iPad Musicians group if so. They are saying some very nice things about Koala. 🙂

That group is the only thing I miss about social media.

You get more daftees there than you do here but it’s still good for info and there’s some very knowledgeable heads in that group. The AUv3 one is good also although I wish they would just amalgamate and assume that everything should either be a host or an AUv3 now... 🙂

  • There’s a couple of other iOS FB groups as well but I don’t see the point. They just tend to be double posts from the ones above or more random.

@elf_audio cheers for new update V1.2.9 - Can you explain the new “Sample From IAA MIDI?
Also any plans to choose different UI skins?

  • Yeah IAA MIDI récord lets you actually record from AUM if you’re in sample mode if that makes sense (ie your midi controller can record sounds onto blank pads)

Skins are def on the list

Have applied to iOS musicians group but
    I’m still pending approval apparently

I had no problems getting in a few years ago or so...

If you put koala in an AB3 effect slot, you can record from a source in the input slot.
