@elf_audio so cool can reverse the Portrait mode. Personally an UNDO button and record count in is more needed if possible before Landscape which you said could be a lot of work and time,
A Master volume would be good too
    Background Audio

  • @elf_audio Just thinking that now that we’ve got IAA and start/stop/sync... adding the ability to have record on/off quantized would be nice to get solid loop syncs...

  • @MonkeyDrummer @elf_audio IAA Start / Stop sync never worked for me in AUM. if possible can you let me know if you have it working in any apps

Yea it worked for me in AUM. I put it on a channel that was fed by a bus, thus I loaded it as an fx. It’s buggy though... had to click several time as it was always in crashed state. Had to start it manually then reload in AUM, but when I hit play in AUM koala started.

  • Hey guys,

This is not a dig at Koala. I’m obviously just not getting it, at least not like a lot of you are...

Why is there so much enthusiasm for this vs say WerkBench? I totally get WerkBench, and as far as I can tell it blows Koala out of the water for me... But because there’s so much love for Koala, it seems that I’m just maybe missing something about Koala that would give me an “a ha” (as in “eureka” not crappy 90’s pop band) moment...

Maybe if there were more from scratch workflow vids for Koala it would click for me...

  • Fast and super-intuitive workflow.
    Its limits encourage creativity.
Built for quick results, not perfection.
    Super-engaged developer.
    Rapid progress in app development.
    $3.

  • And shiny and new

    (Werkbench is still awesome)

WerkBench is awesome. But it’s iPad only. That’s one reason I plan to get Koala. But I doubt I’ll use it on the iPad until it has landscape mode. So, it’ll probably be relegated to killin’ time at the mall while the wife shops until it does. ;)

  • Werkbench looks cool, but definitely more involved.
I never used these types of apps much before, and wasn’t all that interested in Koala when I first looked at it. But early on the dev posted some workflow tips, and it sounded like a lot of fun for $3. So I bought it and I was right, it is a lot of fun.

I hope it stays elegantly simple. If I eventually want to do more with this type of workflow, Werkbench seems already capable of this. I don’t really see the need for Koala to try to be another Werkbench.

  • ...on paper it looks redundant with about 4 other apps I have. But the way it works sets it apart for me and I felt it was $3 very well spent.

  • I just gotta put in another plug for SampleBot. Such a happy, fun, little app. B)

I have had tons of fun with that one, too. It is great.
But I really like the FX in Koala with the easy resample. It ups the fun factor without adding hardly any complexity to the workflow.

  • Definitely Workflow you can pick up Koala and just go, with Werkbench it’s more involved with a workflow that’s not instinctive.

  • Koala works on iPhone. Werkbench doesn't. I love the koala UX too. So easy and fun on the go.

It just occurred to me that for the iPad landscape mode, maybe the developer could keep with the same basic portrait layout, but instead of three separate screens, have three side by side screen regions, each keeping the basic basic portrait layout. You’d still switch between them by touching the tab, but they’d all be displayed at the same time, side by side.

Just a thought. I’m just trying to think how the UI design work could be minimized.

Werkbench starts with similar samples but it works with them differently, it is based on step programming and only plays one sample per step on each side. So there’s definitely room for both.

Works for me in some, kew it deff works I use it in AUM a lot

  • Koala is a triple-threat (at least triple) for what it is and what it’s not: genius simplicity, Roland SPxxx familiarity, and a workflow that’s just shy of self-automated.

@Proppa and also what its going to be.. can see the dev making a pro version soon. I reckon this version is to test the market and Koala is Proppaaaaa good

  • @elf_audio Export Song - tried to it seems you have to trigger the Patterns live while the track is recording? No worries if this is the case as can route Koala output to AUM etc instead - can you confirm Thanks.

    Hi All
Just submitted latest version to Apple - features:

    • Samples can be recorded in mono or stereo
    • Drag samples and sequences across banks with one finger
    • Full IAA and AudioBus input and output (and clock sync)
    • Upside-down portrait mode enabled
    • All audio is stored and rendered in 24 bit
    • Fixes issues with long sequences

Stereo samples and clock sync. That's what I've been waiting for.
And upside-down portrait mode for recording with Stereo Lightning microphones! Yes!!
    Purchased.
And thanks for adding these

You should ask Zoom corporation if they're interested to bundle your app with their iDevice microphones. Dunno, maybe you can get a good deal out of it.
Or maybe at least have them list it as the preferred supported app ;)

  • This is a fantastic app with an intuitive and pleasurable workflow, but it also deceptively deep.
If you have not already done so, please leave a review in the App Store.

I’d put all the sample pads on display. Since it’s impossible to drag/copy a sample from one bank to another in portrait view, this would improve functionality too.

Au contraire, my friend. We can drag samples between banks with the latest release.

Ah right, hadn’t discovered that one yet! Good update.

@elf_audio Is there anyway to update the sequencer giving an option for Koala to auto go to the next sequence in line. This will make recording the Song easier. As of now it seems we have to trigger the sequences live which is cool but when doing so the previous sequences do not play to the end which can get a bit messy.
@Samu I think this is what you were saying too in an earlier post about the on the fly live cueing

  • Who can attempt to re skin the UI if @elf_audio was ok with that. Imagine similar to this on your ipad. Smooooth.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Don’t give it to him. Make his lazy ass do it hisself.
