@SimonSomeone Yup! Sorry I was going to get to it today and got sidetracked :D

awesome, thanks... It's not causing me great stress at the moment :)

  • @TonalityApp Re the Mac version - yes, I'd be up for that....

  • I'm definitely up for a Mac version

  • @Jumpercollins @chocobitz825 @enkaytee @Mayo Okay great! I’ll probably release it soon, if not with the next update. I talked about it a while back but it’s way more feasible now and I can bundle it with the iOS version. I think this means all existing users will get it for free and new users pay once for iPhone/iPad/Mac.

Wow this is very generous of you!

What a top guy and dev. Thanks.

  • Awesome !
I think it will really do well on Mac. The ultimate tool for students and pro's - and you can carry it in your pocket at no cost!

  • Great dev for sure, that's really nice of you! @TonalityApp

  • @Jumpercollins @Mayo @Gavinski @Atlesbe @enkaytee Great to hear there's interest, and thanks for the kind words!

Quick survey: how many people actively use the (mic) chord ID functionality? As some of you probably saw in the beta I'm working on moving it to the main chords tab, but in the process I started rewriting the algorithm and came across some exciting developments. Now I'm thinking of pushing back that feature (and making an audio unit for similar functionality on realtime audio streams...) in the interest of releasing all the other new features in a reasonable time frame. Any strong objections?

  • I use it a bit, mainly with guitar to identify weird stuff im playing, though more and more I’ll already have midiguitar running as well so might use that...

  • @Krupa Thanks for the input! To be clear I’m not going to remove the old functionality, I just won’t include any of the new, in-progress stuff in the very next release

  • Sounds very intriguing :)

Beta testers: anyone having issues with the initial splash screen/icon not showing up on launch? iOS 14 seems to be a bit of a mess in this regard if you're trying to preserve backward compatibility.

I am running iOS 13.7.1 and the splash screen displays fine. (I have no plans to upgrade to iOS 14 ... too many issues reported)

Same here re the splash screen on 13.5, I missed the later versions 13 boat so sticking here until, well maybe forever, or until I buy a new device, unless 14 gets better...

I'm on iOS 14. The initial screen saying what's changed gets displayed OK on my iPad Pro. IS that what you meant?

  • @espiegel123 @Krupa Thanks, good to hear it's working on older versions.
@charalew I meant the initial screen with a dark background and the circular piano icon (which only gets displayed for a second). Have you been receiving the change log each time? That shouldn't happen unless the app has been deleted or it's your first time running on the iPad Pro.

Yeah I'm seeing the circular piano logo thing no problem. I only saw the change the first time I tried it so everything looks fine at this end thanks

  • Continuing my erratic versioning system... Tonality v8 is now available!

    Some highlights include:

    • Strum bar
    • Complete guitar integration and advanced guitar chart generation
    • Split display on iPad
    • XY CC mapping on chord pads along with multiple velocity modes
    • Drag and drop between AU instances and standalone
    • Record detected MIDI chords
    • Patchstorage integration

and much, much more (see the release notes or app settings for a detailed change log).

I have a lot of further updates planned, but wanted to get this version out to the public since it's been about 7 months since the last update (and I tend to forget what's available in the previous version).

Here's a quick video overview of some of the new features:

At the risk of being annoying, if you're enjoying Tonality and haven't left a rating or quick review, please do if you've got the time. They really help!

Many thanks to all beta testers – I've still got a lot for you coming soon ;)

Are there inversions available for the piano chords? I couldn’t quite tell from the video or screenshots.

The app does look impressively supported by the Dev.

  • edited October 2020

    @espiegel123 @Lil_Stu07 Very welcome!

@SpookyZoo Inversions are supported for reference and when editing chord pads.

Ah cool. So the played inversion is also recognised for incoming MIDI? For example if I record in 3 or 4 inverted chords, is this chord spelling recognised and sent in the recorded MIDI file? Hope that make sense. :)

  • @SpookyZoo Are you asking about the chord identification AU? If so, yes - just keep in mind the output is not a strict MIDI recording; instead the output is the identified chords (same notes, quantized to play at the same time if they were slightly off). Inversions are also recognized in the chord pads when assigning via keyboard as well as any other chord recognition section.

    Great, thanks Bryce. Sounds good!
