  • I'm kinda shocked at the traction this app has here in the forums without even being AB or IAA compatible. It must be the bees knees because everyone on here seems to just flip out over it. I still don't own it because of my self imposed moratorium on buying apps that don't support either of those, but it's hard seeing all these people I trust gush on and on about it... staying strong

  • Feel free to purchase while the price is right Boone. Audiobus is on the way. The update is forthcoming from Korg....

  • @boone51, I was 100% with you about not buying this till it got AB support.... Then, on Sunday I slipped and fell on the buy button. Zero, regrets since then! Great sounding ideas just seem to flow with this app. Reminds me of how I felt when I first got AudioBus and plugged it into Loopy.

    So. Much. Fun.

I beg to differ... It is far from subtle, very noticeable and prominent, you just cannot hear it when there is mid or high content present because it gets washed out. I will share the project file mentioned, but in the meantime, you can do a simple test yourselves.

    Create a new project.

Turn off Master Reverb but leave the Limiter on yet at zero.

Create a track loaded with London.

Fill London with BD sounds that are bass heavy and absent of high end.

Play the pads with the limiter on, and then off.

There you have it plain as day.

With the knob at zero there should be no effect on the sound, but as you can see it is quite drastic, and horribly tinny.

You're right. Limiter disconnected. Will use audio mastering for the final mix anyway.

Thank you, Dom, for taking a minute to confirm the issue. It's a little teamwork like that that helps pin down and squash bugs... and we all get better tools by doing so. I'll be sending KORG the example project file and a bug report. I needed that confirmation, Thanks again.

The more you wait the tastier it will be when you get it

  • @B51.Where there's app slutz...there's gush.

Bristol small knob.... Bristol large knob....

Where's PaulB when we need him :-)

I knew you could handle it... them... whatever...

  • Even without Audiobus, this is a great source for sounds for Samplr or other apps. You can use Audiocopy on a single track to get it out and then paste it in.

  • So. Much. Fun. Indeed!
Since i got this app it pretty much absorbs every free minute i got. Everything is so accesible and easy that even novices like myself feel like a total badass in no-time. It's eye and ear candy.
All flaws have been mentioned by people with a far deeper understanding of synths than me so i'll only say that i'd really, really like landscape mode to be added.
I am deeply in love with Korg Gadget.

No worries man. I think Korg will be only too happy to address this and other issues. They must be making some good money for it to be the highest grossing music app on ios. This thread is like a goldmine of ideas for them. Hope they don't get too confused.

  • Gadget TIP OF THE DAY: Pinch to Zoom the sequencer window. Many have asked for it in an update, but guess what, you can do it already. Pinch the blue area with the numbered white dashes right below the Bar tabs and you can resize to you liking. ;)

Is there a way to copy and paste a group of notes? I thought it would be in the function options after selecting notes inside a clip with the Select function, but the copy option is greyed out (indeed, I can't actually make the copy option ever appear!). What I want to do is increase the length of a clip from, say, 1 Bar to 2 Bars, and then paste notes from Bar 1 into Bar 2 before making an alteration in Bar 2. (I know how to repeat a scene!). At the moment, it seems like I have to replicate my notes in the piano roll if I increase the numbers of bars, which is fiddly. Any ideas?

Also scroll by dragging the same area left/left. Or use two fingers on the main piano roll window to scroll left/right/up/down.

I wish the pinch to zoom settings would stay the way you left it when exiting to another track/gadget. If I zoom out a 4 bar track, switch to a 2 bar track/gadget and back again, that 4 bar track/gadget will be zoomed in to 2 bars (and I have to zoom out again to get it all back).

Another thing for the wish list is being able to add automation parameters without recording them first. Let's say I wanna add a LFO changing to a track, I have to record the knob movement for that parameter to show up and be editable with the drawing tool. No need to clutter the interface, Korg, just add a button called "add" or something, and have a drop--down with all parameters that you can automate for the Gadget your working with, and let the user choose parameters to add to the list. Not biggest issue, but would make the workflow even more accessible IMO.

Just select the notes you need then go function and copy button will appear in upper right corner

Press the function button inside a scene (bottom left). Then top right a copy option appears.

There's no single element in Gadget that is revolutionary, ground-breaking, or paradigm-shifting by itself but it feels like Korg really nailed down the formula for putting together a touchscreen music app interface that brings together pre-existing concepts and implementations into one that feels so natural and intuitive, rather than something that still feels like it was adapted from a dekstop interface. The fact that so many people are commenting how they didn't even have to read the manual is a testament to that. So I think it's the overall experience of using Gadget as a whole (seamless workflow + inspiring UI design) that may very well represent a big leap in the evolution of iPad music production tools.

I hear you. This app is doing a lot of things wrong to me like not even the simplest EQ in the Channelstrips, only Portrait mode (i HATE that),no IAA or AB support (yet),no Audiotracks,no Midi sync,no sample import and the knowledge that the Korg support was anything else than a very good example of good customer support in the past. Some people might forgot that in their hysteria about Gadget.I'm pretty sure it will NEVER get Midi sync for example.

BUT it seems the app has "something"so i'm more and more thinking about a purchase, lol.I wanted to buy Caustic but now i probably need to get both.Even if that means Caustic could collect dust but i want to support the developer.

  • The expansion potential makes Gadget very attractive.

Looks like they plan to do something like that https://korgapp.zendesk.com/hc/communities/public/questions/200395514-Parameter-Editor-Question

  • Yep, "no EQ in the Channelstrips, Portrait mode(!), no IAA, no AB, no Audiotracks, no Midi sync, no virtual MIDI, no sample import" so why has this app taken the iOS music world by storm? Well, a massive tweakable sound palete with superb sounds spread across 15 synth and drum machines wrapped in a slick, intuitive workflow. Gadget is just so 'go to' - you think it, you create it. The automation, the editing and the knowledge that this is release one from a big player so further developments will only make this great iOS app even stronger. I love this.

  • Thanks for the heads up about the support forum. We should start raising hell I mean submitting suggestions. They're going to hear a little bit from me about their MIDI implementation.

  • @ChrisG @firejan82 in the meantime I think you press record and 'nudge' the controller and then it will show up for further editing.

  • Just browsed that Korg forum and someone has asked about midi clock sync in Gadget. The response was "we will add this feature to a future update".

  • a good idea is give votes to the suggestions rather than repeating them, they probably are gonna be basing their decisions on the vote count

  • @Halftone said:

Saw that- much more encouraging than the standard "we'll pass that on to the devs"

  • Ha, thanks guys. The copy function genuinely wasn't working, but then I went out and back in, and suddenly it did. Can only make it copy a whole bar, though... can anyone copy/paste a selection of notes?

Nope, seems like Select is currently only for moving and deleting.

I don't like how 'freeze' files are saved even after a project is deleted.
Used freeze a few times and the apps memory usage has jumped to 80mb.
Imagine what that will be after a year...
As far as I can see there's no way to delete these from within the app.

This app just proves that the 'it just works' vision is somewhat overdue with IOS. The platform is desperate for the daw that has all the features in one package.

With Gadget there is very little in the way of my decision making apart from which flavour will compliment the last.

I hope between AB & IAA they accomplish this but until then there's Korg Gadget !

    Here's my first play.....:)

It reminds me of when rebirth first came out.

I would love to see AB & IAA effects and instruments seamlessly integrated one day :)
