First of all: thanks for this great app and the great update - I am very happy about the polyrhythm-function ... - it really pushes this great tool even further ...
but - since the update - I lost the ability to switch betweeen the grooves - at the beginning of the session everything works fine - I can switch between Groove 01 and 02 and 03 and 01 and so on - but all of sudden the sound gets stuck on a single groove - I see the visual change to the selected pattern - but the sound doesn’t change - and after I while I noticed - the blue line showing the actual beat doesn’t appear in the freshly selected groove as well - instead it stays on the groove selected before - feels like a „hung“ groove - same happened for me in song mode. Anybody else experiencing this behavior or am I doing something wrong?
@ElliottGarage - is there a manual available? I’m trying to get the sample hold feature recording into the sequencer, for the length of time I’m holding the pad, but I can’t get it to work. It also seems to skip the sample note I’ve recorded every few bars.
Most likely I’m doing something wrong, but I’m stumped by this and as it’s the reason I bought it I’d like to get it to work. A tutorial would be great.
Thanks
I’m getting crashes constantly when trying to build/save kits. iPadOS on 2018 iPadPro. Also, where are the drum kits stored in ‘files’ and is there a way to build them in desktop and bring them over?
@ElliottGarage Polyrhythms =
thank you so much!!
I can get MIDI written from EG Pulse in GarageBand (yay!) but can’t figure out how to get the same results in NS2. Is there some sort of routing I need to do?
I’m not sure you can in NS2. NS2 requires a workaround for recording AU midi output. Basically you need to load the RouteMIDI plugin from the Midi Tools suite. This works for AU midi FX, but doesn’t appear to work for AU instruments with AU midi out.
I hope to be proven wrong. But so far I haven’t been able to get it to work as it does for AU midi FX such as Rozeta.
(Not Pulse’s fault the way I see it. NS2 lack of native AU midi support is the cause.)
Oh hell yehhh! Just totally brilliant!
Thanks for this.
Magnifique! I love this app!
Is there a centralised place we can use to share our banks and kits?
Seem to have answered my own question, it is recording the length of time the pad is pressed. Weirdly though, the sample hold track was only playing once every four bars. Tried with another sample, recorded with different quantisation and that seemed to work ok.
Anyone - is there a quick way to erase a pad, to remove a sound completely? Slicing to pads only works when there are empty pads available.
@peanut_gallery maybe @audio_DT can help you.
@MonzoPro probably the sample that was playing once every four bars was a loop synced. Sync button is intended to sync a 4 bars loop to Pulse BPM, so basically after been time-strectched it will play once every 4 bar. You can find the manual in the settings
To remove a sound at the moment you need to open each pad sample editor individually and click DELETE
Anybody tries the new way of chaning BPM from display? In the next update I'm gonna remove the tempo knob probably. Give me feedback
@cuscolima a centralized place to share kits would be great...I need to think about this
Ah ok, that makes sense, thanks.
Do you mean Erase? The delete button didn't do anything, but clicking the Erase button seemed to work and there's a blank pad, but when I save the kit (which I'm a bit confused about as well, manual reading required I guess) and open it again, the sound is back on the pad I cleared.
Also worth mentioning - when I long press on a pad, the sample editor doesn't open.
My opinion
Please remove the tempo knob, more space then for more useful buttons
Brilliant, thanks for the update
Not had much time to play but polyrhythms and midi out is great.
I get a bit of a jittery playhead but I think it's syncing ok.
I'm using it most with external sequencers at the moment and agree with earlier comment that more measures per pattern would be great especially in that scenario so recording into the patterns is easier, unless there's a way to record across multiple patterns?. Would love it also if the automation was unlocked from the grid notes so that when external sequencing you could still automate the samples... Another bonus would be to draw automation across the screen even without notes in the grid and where the notes are in the grid the automation is lit up, like in Octachron.
Nice work!
I’m the kind of guy who likes to ‘play’ a drum machine,, having a tempo knob that responds well to manipulation is essential,, by all means make it smaller ( but keep that genius ‘further away/ finer control’ attribute ) but there are a lot of ipad drumming things that DON’T have this so removing it removes something that sets yrs apart from the rest..
I could take this opportunity to request a bump in bpm at the high end ( 360, 480 ? ) and maybe down to 10 at the low..
my drum machine usage , real since 1980 and virtual since 1998, are maybe a bit more abstract than most.. but it would be a huge turn off for me if i had to type in bpms.. hugely unsexy!
there is no more useful knob than a tempo knob..
@RockySmalls you don’t need to type bpm. You can drag the bpm label in the display to the left to decrease and to the right to increase
@ElliottGarage - don't know if anyone else has this issue, but when I long press on a pad (standalone and AU) it doesn't bring up the sample editor.
Air 2 12.3.1
Tapping the label for tap tempo, holding for typing , swiping left/right for changing ?
that’s nice, but it doesn’t have the same range of speeds as the knob.. i am in love with the fact you can move super quick from 20 to 240 or much more delicately if needs be.. this is an EXPRESSIVE tool.. the top bpm window is awkward as its position means you can only move horizontally to play it!! is there any way to implement the amazing control the knob allows into that top window? or put the bpm at least in that top right hand quarter of the space where the knob is now? i expect you will want to keep the TAP function , could that be a ‘press, hold and manipulate’ area to keep what we have now?
though i enjoy positive development of an app after purchase .. can’t fault you there ;-)
I do find the removal of functions extremely annoying ( when Marcos Alonso removed the original ‘gate’ and ‘invert gate’ function from Samplr i was depressed for years! and it wasn’t even necessary in terms of Ui.. )
can i ask what Ui functions the removal of the knob will pave the way for?
it's not supposed to is it? That would be annoying I think...in edit mode press the pencil icon to bring up the editor...not sure if there's another way though.
+1,000,000
Says it should in the manual, under the Sample Editor section. Kind of agree it might be annoying, but saves a longer winded way of editing pads, and would take you directly to the pad you wanted to edit, rather than going through the list first. Maybe a hold and swipe option?
Hold edit button and tap pad to open sample editor (changed in last update to prevent accidentally opening editor when playing pads)
With the new update, you need to press edit and then the pad.
ah right, yeah there's still a few workflow things I haven't got the hang of yet when I return to the app.
Definitely better thanks, but the display bar tempo box is missing the double tap to enter tempo manually option.
@ElliottGarage Spotted some weirdness. Recorded a sequence into the grid but the pads weren't playing back the recorded notes. When I stopped and restarted the host timeline, seemed to fix it (AUM)
@craftycurate tap to tap tempo, longpress to insert manually
@RockySmalls you can move pretty fast even swiping horizontally. I can go from 120 to 200 BPM with one single swipe.
Also please keep in mind that I receive several negative feedback about that knob, even one negative review on the store, and I plan to use that space for something new. Maybe we can find a compromise... I can set min to 10 BPM and MAX to 300
