@Vortico has answered my question. It’s unfortunate that he’s had so much conflict with @mifki. I have serious doubts about the viability of miRack moving forward as no VCV Rack developers have come to this forum to say they’re supportive of miRack on iOS. When the lead developer is so opposed to such a project, I can’t help but think it will have a chilling effect on their willingness to give such support. I’m concerned VCV Rack developers may decide to not actively support or oppose miRack development in lieu of waiting until a version of VCV Rack becomes available for iOS which is not something @Vortico wants to do himself but will consider if any iOS developers approach him about it.
@InfoCheck : please don’t use this thread to discuss the disputes between Andrew and Vitaly. Create another thread on that topic if you feel you must. Please let’s keep this thread on-topic so that it does not get sunk again.
+1
So now that the vanilla modules are out, wuld be great to have a list for possible and easy "substitutes".
You can do what you want to do. What anyone does here is ultimately regulated by @Michael and those he chooses as moderators. In my opinion, you’re focused on your goals but it seems like you’re going out of your way to use methods beyond the original terms of the open source license to pressure @mifki into conforming to your vision. I do think that without the support of the VCV Rack developer community, the potential of miRack will be severely limited. It’s unfortunate for iOS users that we’ve been caught in the middle of this dispute with no tangible plans for improvement and likely significant damage may have been done to the prospect of both apps for iOS in my opinion.
Agreed, all my patches have been destroyed. What a sad day. Still i had a great piano lesson...
Must say all this conflict stopped me using the app as I feared it would either get pulled or changed. Hopefully things can settle down now and give us some stability.
@InfoCheck, sorry, I am not a mod anymore. I preferred just being able to voice my opinion on the forum.
It may be prudent to take a leaf out of the Harry Potter books and avoid mentioning Voldemort...
I think @mifki will bring back his own version of the fundamental modules eventually, just need to change a bit the layout, the gfx are already changed!
And boy have you been quiet lately, you have been producing a good output of music though! 🤔
Well, Jeez, @[Deleted User]... have you seen any off topic controversies lately? I have sort of run out of abstruse topics to post. I really had to fight myself not to somehow post Bill Taylor’s 15 page opening statement. But forget I said that, I am trying to be good. 😈
The music is a bunch of tracks I recorded over the summer. I haven’t touched a keyboard in several months actually.
Their dispute has impacted my ability and willingness to develop miRack patches. I now have to go through and redo all of my patches that used the basic/fundamental modules if I update to the latest version of miRack. This means they’ve made their problems, my problem. Do I really want to invest my time and energy in an app that may have serious support issues? There is minimal information about miRack on the developers website. It seems to me @mifki anticipated VCV Rack users would already be familiar with them. Even many of the modules are lacking descriptions in the app. In addition, I wouldn’t feel comfortable using VCV Rack resources on their site to learn about modules given this dispute. At this point I will wait and see.
As for those who are concerned about the thread being sunk, the people who do the sinking could have asked @Vortico to keep his remarks to another thread as well. I’m focused on whether or not miRack is a viable alternative for me moving forward. Inhibiting discussion on this thread about the effects of how the dispute has and may impact the ability to use miRack seems to be censorship as I’m not following the narrative preferred by some that the dispute is over and we should just focus on what we can do with miRack.
Congratulations, it’s a thankless task.
I’ve created a thread on the challenges of developing modular apps for iOS.
Man I hope those basic modules come back in some form .. I feel lost now without em
Sorry, yes; this was a half-baked post I wrote a while ago and that I somehow inadvertently posted. It’s all been clarified since then
I just want to chime in here, I am Sander from Stellare Modular. Together with my partner in crime Enzo we made some modules for VCV Rack. I do not pick sides, I like the VCV Rack software and I am happy that mi-Rack is available on IOS as it has been something I requested a couple of years ago already. Things went in a unfortunate way but I think both sides have learned from their mistakes and now it's time to move on. We will support the miRack platform also and will port our modules so they become available wherever possible and I hope other developers will consider the same thing. In the end we want as much users possible to have access to our modules and use them with the same passion as with the passion we had to create them.
Peace
Thank You Sander for weighing in.
Peace
Thank you for sharing you modules on iOS. Is there some website we can go to and learn about how to use your modules?
I am confident that the majority of module developers are just as reasonable, fair minded and committed to providing their creations to as many users as possible.
There is some info on our github page for our free modules:
https://github.com/stellare-modular
We also have a commercial package out:
https://ask.audio/articles/stellare-modular-creative-suite-for-vcv-rack-is-just-25
Thank you 🙏
Hopefully at some point there will be a way to use and compensate you for your commercial modules used on iOS too.
There is no reason why there couldn't be IAPs for paid modules for which the proceeds were passed on to the developers.
I’m sure there’s probably not a whole lot of people who want it but I would actually use it quite a bit on my phone if it were to become universal. I totally understand the reasons for not doing it though, just letting you know there are at least a few of us
@Vortico @stellaremodular thank you guys, and especially to @mifki for bringing this to iOS 🙂
If some of the existing recorder/sampler modules are added that only work with WAV/AIFF files, is that useful? Probably this is a silly question as uncompressed format is desirable anyway, I just thought if I do my own modules they'd accept any iOS-supported file types, but the existing ones do not.
I love me some WAV
Thanks!!!
Will the Link module be included??
