  • Thank you! It is kinda weird that you have to assign at one take all parameters you wanna control. Let's say I assign 3 parameters and after some time I would like to assign another one...the whole thing crashes and have to repeat the whole procedure.> @anickt said:

Very helpful Anickt! So, I should midi assign first and after that I can move through. I realized not all auv3 apps are sharing their presets in their code ... so I could scroll through presets with Zenbeats’ arrows and not through the actual synth. Maybe this a developers’ code choice...not sure though. Thanks again> @anickt said:

Someone should look over the midi cc mapping with external controller...it's not working properly.
As soon as you assign a parameter ( which by the way...I suggest changing the colors/layout) on parameter list...the synth will jump to a default preset or state.

    I’m not seeing that.
    What synth and what controller?

    Every auv3 I am using...controller I have a akai lpd8, launch control xl, 2 faderfoxes ...
Is it a setting somewhere ?

Try setting "Block All Raw MIDI CCs" to ON in the little "four squares" plugin menu at the top left. It should be the default though, so I don't know what could be happening for you.

Are all those controllers attached at the same time? If so then maybe one of them is sending a Program Change or dumping a bunch of parameters. Or, maybe try disabling midi-out to be sure there's no midi loop going on. I dunno - just guessing here.

    Yes, that setting is on..
Yes I have 5 midi controllers: Roland A49 midi keyboard. Akai lpd8, Novation Launchcontrol xl and Faderfox Pc12 & Mx12
    Thank you for the input!

I'm still not clear whether they're all plugged in at the same time. If they are then my suggestion is to unplug them all, then try one at a time. I suspect one of them may be dumping parameters or sending Program Change, or something.

I tried Tal-U-No. I see what you’re saying. If you set up your mapping first and then choose the preset this won’t happen. Or if you add a mapping and you’ve already chosen a preset just use one of the arrows next to the preset display to move to an adjacent preset and back and it will be fine. I’ll investigate a little further when I get a chance but either of the above methods are an easy fix in the meantime.

See screenshot. I chose that particular preset, did my mapping which killed the sound and then just tapped on the left arrow and then the right arrow to restore the originally chosen preset.

The whole thing crashes? I’ve never seen it that drastic! I really prefer drawing automation in anyway. More control.

  • I haven't seen any of the problems you have @Sergiu, but I haven't done heavy changes, lots of mappings, and multiple controllers. I'm guessing Zen just can't handle all that going on at once.

Their technical support is pretty helpful, but you'll have to be prepared to provide detail and reproducible steps.

  • Thank you guys!

  • Last day to get Zenbeats for free (for now), get it if you haven’t already :)

    Hi!
Yet another question for Zen gurus here.
I’m really confused about recording synths/fix automation. Can’t figure it out. I’ve looked around for video tutorials and can’t find it.
I mean recording knob/parameter movement live. In 2 ways:

    • physical controller (Midi learn?)
    • UI knob tweak (AUV3 plugin controls vs Zenbeats parameter display).
As far as I recall Zenbeats is picky about what it will record and you have to do a few “preps”. I’m pretty sure I’ve recorded automation before, I can’t tell if it’s me or some dude in a video anymore!!.
      Cheers!

    Sorry for insisting....
Any good tutorial on recording live automation?.

I can’t make any videos for a week or so but what I do is MIDI learn whatever parameters I want to record (chosen on the parameters page not the effect interface) and then hit record and tweak away. Just make sure Overdub MIDI is enabled. It is by default. That’s really all there is to it. You can’t tweak from the AU interface yet.

  • Thanks Anickt! Where is that setting placed for overdub midi? Do you access it from parameter view page?

To add to the above, you can record automation from the screen on the AU parameters page as well. You don't necessarily have to midi-learn a controller.

nvm - it doesn't work this way.

Tap on the little grid icon after tapping the arrow next to tempo

I can’t. ☹️ How do you do that?

  • ( and we thought Octatrack is deep menu diving...)

  • Eh? I'm sure I did it that way before! I haven't for awhile. Let me go check if it still works or not.

  • Well, crap, either my memory is faulty or it no longer works. Probably my memory. Sorry for the confusion.

The confusion is there anyway! 🤪🤪🤪

Same memory here... I'd swear I've done it like this. No wonder I couldn't get it working.
So to record automation you absolutely need a mapped hardware device . Right?. Sort of weird.
    Thanks @anickt

They have directly told me they are working on automation and they’ve been steady on updates so hopefully by end of year it’ll be a whole new Zenbeats. That’s my prediction anyway! 🤣

Is it possible to record MIDI CC automation from a hardware controller to a MIDI track? Is it possible to have it captured automatically when recording notes (without specifying anything first ala Cubasis)?

    +1

Yes but you do have to MIDI learn whatever parameters you want to control. That takes a second.

Thank you, sorry for my delay in replying but just getting hooked back up to try this tonight.

Alas, I'm confused. How do you MIDI learn an external CC?

Just to make sure I’m ‘splainin my trouble correctly:

    1. I’m trying to record and send external CC messages (to/from a hardware synth)
    2. I have loaded an “Instrument” track
    3. I have not set an instrument for the track
    4. I have mapped the input/output ports and channel correctly
    5. I can capture and send notes
    6. I can send manually added CCs
    7. I’m looking for a way to capture and send CCs
    8. MIDI learning cc42 to send cc42 seems goofy but I’m up for it!
    9. I try to find a way to do that but end up back here on the forum...
  • You load your instrument track ( auv3 I suppose) and after its main screen you go to that 4 square menu button and open up... choose view parameter list, midi learn and touch the parameter you want to control, after move your knob/slider. It should work.

  • a few things that make zenbeats great

    1 clip launching
2 when in time line mode you can make changes to one bar and have it auto duplicate across many bars
3 sliding up and down on a note in the piano roll adjusts velocity
4 sliding right or left in piano roll auto fills in steps and changes notes to triplets
5 recording midi fx into clips or timeline
6 the master channel buttons switch each tracks view from volume/audio fx/ send fx all at once
7 set the scale for each track
8 lots of color options for the gui
9 record clips into the time line

and more but those are some of my fav features

  • Please give us Zenology in Zenbeats!

  • Let's say you record to timeline a short loop clip, resulting in N repeats of the pattern on the timeline. You then draw some track automation spanning these N blocks. Is it possible to get the result back as a (longer) loop clip in loop mode? I tried some variations with "break up", glue, copy/paste, print track automation to pattern etc., but wasn't able to get the longer pattern back as a clip in loop builder.

Easiest is to create a longer pattern in the first place or create a new long pattern and copy paste the contents of the short pattern.

    Cool
A lot of things about this look exactly like stagelight, kinda strange... Just about to try it out

It Is Stagelight. Roland bought them and integrated the synth into the ZenCore product as the host along with the original DAW structure. I recently purchased the ZenCore Ultimate package and was playing with it heavily on my iPad... so a few weeks ago I sprung for the $150 Ultimate package. It unlocked the Whole FLipin Store!!! Seriously. All the loops and Plugins. Now this unlocks certain pieces such as the new ZenCore packs. But to get the secret sauce its grabbing Zencore from that and it unleashes their new ZenCore Engine that is the same in Jupiter X and Xm. Anyways... sorry... Got to Files in the iPad and find the ZenBeats folder... dig down to ZenBeats User/temp look in the folder. You will see the Stagelight wrappers, labels, and structure all there. They didn't even bother to rename it.

  • Wow..use it a lot...and... lol in the temp folder are the raw sample sounds... On the iPad.. and you can move them from the temp folder to your own folder for safe keeping. I gotta get to work.. lol...

Have you succeed to send cc to external device? dunno how to proceed

  • Anyone succeed to use Octachtron with Zenbeats?

  • I only controlled parameters inside Zenbeats iOS environment ( midi mapping) never tried to control external synths inside Zenbeats and cc’s of that synth

  • midi out plays patterns on external synth
